Re: Burnley and bene
Love a benny, and there is nothing better than a Beni and hot for a head cold in winter.
Lovely... That would up my game at least 10% knowing a bottle of Beni was on offer.

Let’s hope they find a way of serving them quicker at half time instead of not getting a beer until second half!

I'm surprised that we're the only club selling hot-benes, I'd have thought that there would've been a similar tradition at Rovers and Accrington at least?

Don't forget it originated at a Benedictine Monastery, so not as bizarre as it might appear.

Re: Burnley and bene
I've been boring everyone stupid enough to listen to me where ever I've been that Benedictine monks brewed it in a monastery and served it to the brave Burnley lads in the East Lancs regiment during the Great war. I've just discovered the monastery/monk bit is nonsense but I'm going to ignore that and crack on.

Too perfumery (if that's a word) for my taste.
Re: Burnley and bene
I guess its not commercially capable but what a wonderful shirt sponsor this could be.

Re: Burnley and bene
Belting idea. I don`t normally buy a shirt, but would definitely buy one with a Bene Sponsor, the club are missing a trick there!

Sweet and sickly.
I probably would drink it if I was stuck in a trench in France with no other alcohol about.

Re: Burnley and bene
I was brought up on Bene and have a bottle in my pantry at all times in case of stomach upsets!
It is a wonderful tipple and the idea of them sponsoring our shirts instead of love island would be brilliant.

Re: Burnley and bene
I really want one of these bottles.
So if J. Rod or Wood, or Pope or Mee etc - or infact if any of them are willing to donate to a good cause (myself) it would be good...
Or indeed auction them for a better cause (though right now I can't think of one )
I love the fact we have the history and their ad's are still at TM. You also spot them every now and then on TV.
They are in the background on photos and clips old and new etc Much better than blanket betting ads - but they are still there and there are others
It's part of the TM fight and spirit (not technically a spirit) that is forever linked to East Lancs and Burnley.
Never Forget.

Re: Burnley and bene
It is a nice connection to local history for some who were in the Great war. I have always associated it with a drink to be taken with hot water when I have a cold during winter. But well done to the club for keeping the tradition going.

Funny how betting sponsors made this message board go into melt down, yet alcohol is fine, maybe there's no alcoholics on here

Re: Burnley and bene
How much hot water do you put in a bene and hot? Equal parts to the bene? Fill it up to the top or what?

I loved her to bits but I once suggested she must never be well given how much of the stuff she went through. I got a clip behind the ear.Bin Ont Turf wrote:Grandma's tend to say that about alcoholic beverages.
