Charlie Taylor
Just a thought why not play Charlie in front of Peters as Dwight tires. We has pace strong in the tackle and possesses a great crossing ability.

Not a bad call if we are leading but his crossing hasn’t been that great. Certainly not at his Leeds level.

I’m fairly sure that Taylor will be back starting at LB as of the next game.Tricky Trevor wrote:Not a bad call if we are leading but his crossing hasn’t been that great. Certainly not at his Leeds level.

Did we try Taylor on the left wing in a game last season?

A Europa qualifier I think.Bordeauxclaret wrote:Did we try Taylor on the left wing in a game last season?

Ah, the old full back playing wing thread. It’s been a while. Let’s forget we have JBG, Lennon and Hendrick available.

Re: Charlie Taylor
Lennon is generally not so effective on the left. He looks so much better in his natural right wing berth.NL Claret wrote:Why not just play Lennon there?
(I agree however that he would be a better option than Taylor in response to the OP)
Re: Charlie Taylor
Or we could just play Taylor at left back, seeing as he is far better than Pieters and was outstanding last season.
Re: Charlie Taylor
Taylor should be in our team ASAP. Not saying Pieters has performed badly, in fact he’s done quite well, but Taylor is a much better player.

Re: Charlie Taylor
Taylor is a better player than Pieters. Taylor and McNeil link up play last season was one of the factors our form picked up in the new year.
Taylor is an outstanding modern day wing back, he has a good engine, skill full, can beat a man and puts in a decent cross most of the times.
Watching our two games without Taylor, it is plain to see that McNeil is missing him, we don't carry the same threat going forward down the left

Taylor's back up should be Pieters Lawton's back up is Bardsley. Play your better players. Taylor was outstanding after Christmas.

I also think Bardsley is a better player than Lowton. .
We don't have the same quality down the right, Lowton nor JBG or anyone else who can fill those positions is in the same league as Taylor and McNeil

I’d imagine CT be back next week his link play later in season with McNeil was excellent . With Drinkwater shortly to be phased in and a very sharp looking Lennon we could be very lively indeed . I think Jay needs a start as well though maybe not till Liverpool

Last season.
Wasn’t he in the side that was beaten 3 - 1 last year... yep I think Sean will change the side that played brilliantly yesterday....
Re: Charlie Taylor
A bit of a stretch to give Pieters an assist for the first goal last week, was just an aimless punt downfield that got lucky. From what I've seen so far Taylor is head and shoulders above him.

So you incredibly award Lennon 4 out of 10 in your player ratings and suggest Taylor should play there and then start a thread on it. Was once not enough? Had you left when Lennon came on? I can only assume so.Woodleyclaret wrote:Just a thought why not play Charlie in front of Peters as Dwight tires. We has pace strong in the tackle and possesses a great crossing ability.

Surely an assist is given to the player from your own team that touched the ball before you put it in the back of the net.....jrgbfc wrote:A bit of a stretch to give Pieters an assist for the first goal last week, was just an aimless punt downfield that got lucky. It doesn't matter if it comes off his head, back or @rse its still an assist.
Pieters cleared the ball over his shoulder high into the wind ... it fell nicely for Ash who anticipated what the Soton defender didn't, he contolled it and buried it past Gunn fan-bloody-tastic ....
IT IS AN ASSIST .... if you don't like it complain to the FA I am sure they will give you a reply
Bet you arent complaining about Pieters 2nd assist where he crossed the ball right on the money for Ash to volley past Gunn again or are you
And as for Charlie being head and shoulders above Pieters.... nah Pieters is 6'1 Charlie only 5'11
Its brilliant we still have 2 quality LB's after Ward was sold.
I like Charlie and am sure he will get his place back in the starting 11 when he is fully fit, but until then we have Erik in the LB slot

Re: Charlie Taylor
In the last week we have had:
You can’t call the first goal last week an assist
He was aiming for Wood on the second goal last week
It’s Pieters’ fault that Dwight hasn’t hit the heights yet
We should play a left back on the wing
Charlie will be back next week and then next week and then next week, we really miss him
Blah blah blah
There’s no way Dyche should or indeed will (injuries permitting) make changes to the defence from yesterday. It was our best performance at Arsenal with Dyche as manager.
The team is looking as good as ever at the minute and if Charlie spends all season on the bench it will be because we are doing well and because Dyche thinks he’s second choice for that position.

Just pointing out the difference between a good cross where you pick somebody out like his second one and a hopeful punt upfield like the first which gets lucky.taio wrote:Would be more of a stretch trying to take the assist away from him.
Re: Charlie Taylor
To be fair you didn't mention anything about his good cross for his other assist and you clearly implied the hopeful punt shouldn't go down as an assist.jrgbfc wrote:Just pointing out the difference between a good cross where you pick somebody out like his second one and a hopeful punt upfield like the first which gets lucky.

Re: Charlie Taylor
Hi Tony, I believe Woodley suggested that Charlie Taylor could have been used as sub for a very tired Dwight McNeil. I had a similar thought at about 70+ mins yesterday. McNeill was "dead on his feet," Aaron Lennon has already subbed for JBG and I was thinking who do we have who can come on from Dwight? Based on the bench, choices were Charlie Taylor or Jeff Hendrick. (I'd ruled out Ben Gibson, Phil Bardsley and Joe Hart). Given we'd only got 20 mins to play and we needed to get the ball forward and into the box, if it had been my call - and I'd seen it tried in training - I would have gone with Charlie Taylor.ClaretTony wrote:So you incredibly award Lennon 4 out of 10 in your player ratings and suggest Taylor should play there and then start a thread on it. But, that was yesterday, only 5 subs available on the bench, 1-2 down at the Emirates and 20 minutes in which to get something.
Sean Dyche, who knows a lot, lot more than me, kept Dwight on. Maybe neither Charlie or Jeff would have been a tactical improvement?

How's your man Wardy getting on at Stoke? Looks as though he's barely got on the pitch yet for them.

Edgar definitely played left back that night, he's probably still having nightmares over the run around he got from Damien Duff.Murger wrote:Didn't Laws start Edgar at left back and Fox on the wing in the away game against Fulham, or have I got that totally wrong?

Just get behind the lads that are playing well...
And eat your Burger King....
Let’s not give any credit for a good defence playing well for 2 games.
