I know Ed Sheeran criticism is like shooting fish in a barrel, and he’s hardly going to care what I think as he sleeps in his bed made out of 10,000 carat diamonds, but the ‘rapping’ he contributes to that latest track with Stormzy is utterly risible.

I'm sure the 120m a year he makes, makes "wiley" fade into insignificance.
At a guess I'd say "wiley" makes a very small fraction of Ed, and it's very much a case of the green eyed monster.
It's like calling Ronaldoor Messi poor at football...
A jealous man trying to throw mud hoping some sticks, purely to raise his own profile.

whilst i agree with you my point was that they're all crap. three 'artists' all profiting from a non-story.
ed sheeran is raping a living via the medium of mediocrity and grime is just positive discrimination at 11.
rank alongside the trials and tribulations that happen on crap like love island etc. it really is that trivial.
Re: Ed Sheeran accused by Wiley of 'using grime to look good'
I only long to "rape a living" or be "so talentless " that I may earn a poultry 120m a year.yTib wrote:whilst i agree with you my point was that they're all crap. three 'artists' all profiting from a non-story.

In fact, I'll take an even more lesser status in the public eye ( if that's possible) and take "just" 1% of his wages, for being a lesser waste of space or talentless nobody.
People really do need to think before they speak

Yes, it's why Ronaldo/Messi is the best footballer of all time, Smith is currently the best batsman in the world, and Frankel is regarded as one if the best horses that's ever raced.
It's only an absolute dummy ( not saying you are ) that doesn't think that talent and success is related
I'd say the meaning of talent is NEARLY success based.

apples and oranges my friend.
success in sport is absolute.
success in art is much more complicated.
but if you actually like ed sheeran then crack on.
edit: or wiley and stormzy for that matter. all three are utter gash.

Whether I like him or not, it doesn't take away from the fact the majority of the country ( and possibly world ) rate him enough to make him the best artist/singer/song writer there us out there.yTib wrote:apples and oranges my friend.

If you dont like him, I'd say it's you who had the issue, not the majority.
Like I said previously, it's like arguing that neither Ronaldo or Messi are the best football players in the world, there's no argument.
You are entitled to your opinion, but your opinion of him being talentless, rubbish, or even crap at his profession etc are so far wrong.

merely expressing an opinion. if you want to live a life where everyone agrees with everyone else and yet keeps it to themselves then maybe it's you who is missing something.

Yes, they are an opinion, but go against the majority so a weak argument
Agree
I think it's tough sh1t to you who thinks hes crap, even though in the minority
Ps its only you getting upset by it...
Do you think Ronaldo/Messi are the best footballers on the planet?
Is Smith the best batsman on the planet?
If so why?
Then put the same principles in place for Ed, you'll soon realise what a dumb/silly argument you're trying to make

Blade Runner 2049 made $259.2m at the box office. The same year, Transformers: The Last Knight made $605.4m. There's no metric - literally none - by which Transformers: The Last Knight can be considered a better film than Blade Runner 2049. Absolutely no aspect of the Transformers movie is better than the Blade Runner movie. Literally nothing. Yet it was watched by more people. Commercial success doesn't attest to creative or artistic merit. And for the record, creative and artistic merit is not a necessarily subjective quality. Some art is objectively better than other art according to any normally accepted definition of the word "better". Ed Sheeran might be popular but he is not creating masterworks. It's ridiculous to draw upon sport as an analogue to art. A footballer is essentially a mechanical component in a system and his worth is determined by his function in that system. Art is not mechanical in that way. Ed Sheeran's market worth is a function of people's ($hit) taste, not his genius or otherwise.

And there it is in a nut shell. It’s not art, it’s entertainment, which by its very nature is subjective (did you notice the use of apostrophes yTib. Grammar School education will eventually trump the grammar police).Spiral wrote:Blade Runner 2049 made $259.2m at the box office. The same year, Transformers: The Last Knight made $605.4m. People like Ed Sheeran because they have to, to fit in with there friends who feel the same way. Same as every artist that is played on Radio 1.MACCA wrote:Whether I like him or not, it doesn't take away from the fact the majority of the country ( and possibly world ) rate him enough to make him the best artist/singer/song writer there us out there.

It’s like when everyone wore Toms or them carrot chino with the cuff at the bottom. Nobody liked them but they wore them because they had too. It’s like ripped skin tight jeans. Nobody likes them but people are stuck in the little bubble they create for themselves and they are afraid of having to think and actually do things they want to out of fear they won’t be a “lad” or part of the group. Radio 1 takes the work out of actually having to go out and find music you like. They are basically a music version of shop manikins and Ed Sheeran has been the best selling outfit.

Chobulous, this might be rapidly becoming one of those situation whereupon people who are all in general agreement with one another find themselves shouting over each other, but my point was made to side with yTib against MACCA's suggestion of popularity being an indicator of talent. Erm...and the grammar school comment? Was that about me? Because I assure you I didn't actually know what a grammar school was until I was about 24 and I promise you I was dumb as f.uck in school.Chobulous wrote:And there it is in a nut shell. Of course Ed Sheeran is talented. His talent is the ability to earn £120m a year - that's a talent I wish I had. How he does it is incidental.
Re: Ed Sheeran accused by Wiley of 'using grime to look good'
By that measure Pablo Escobar was talented.

Re: Ed Sheeran accused by Wiley of 'using grime to look good'
To be quite honest Friday might as well be a religious day to me because it's release day. I'm continually checking out upcoming releases via various music blogs I read (those blogs usually get a hold of pre-releases for review), then Friday comes: bandcamp, spotify etc basically all day, I've got a catalogueing system all of my own and I'm on about 10-20 new albums a week (and whole albums, for what it's worth, not just the odd single), three of four of the best will fill my week on repeat until the next Friday. But yeah, in spite of all that I'm fairly sure Ed Sheeran is still utterly pants.Squarepusher wrote:Extra! Extra! Old people in 'hating new music' shocker!

I'll be honest, I was a few beers deep when I made that post, and probably not in a position to talk as a 36 year old who agrees that Ed Sheeran is abysmal. I think I was mainly baffled by someone putting Wiley's name in quotation marks, which struck me as very odd. Do they do the same for 'Elton John' and 'Bono'?Spiral wrote:To be quite honest Friday might as well be a religious day to me because it's release day.
