Re: Clarets for Foodbanks to launch at Liverpool game
Can confirm that the collections will be carried out for the first few home games by:
Liverpool: West Yorkshire Clarets
Norwich: London Clarets
Everton: North Manchester Clarets
Chelsea: Up the Clarets
As the Chelsea game approaches, I will be asking for some volunteers to help man the bins from 1:30 until 2:45

Extremely sad to hear people at the counter declaring they had nothing to eat at home and had come to collect from the food bank. A lady in her early 20’s with young baby in a pram asking for her allowance a day early as she was desperate. It was one of those moments when you realise how lucky you are.
Wonderful charity and despite the upset I felt, there was also pride that part of our club provide that support for those that need it.

I will bring in some of the tinned food my dad has been storing for a nuclear war.
CT you are looking like you may need the food bank compared to when I last saw you.

Not 100% finalised but currently considering the Park View corner, top of Ormerod Yard, close to the away fans entrance and the corner near the disabled stand. We'll see how things go and maybe change things as we go along but that's the current plan although we'll advertise it later next week.Spike wrote:Where are the four locations?

Received a message from Liverpool this afternoon, our opponents next week, and it reads: "Welcome aboard.... Beware of Scousers travelling up to Turf Moor bearing gifts of food."

Re Scousers bearing gifts of food.
I watch us play a night game at Goodison on the way down Carisbrooke Road some scally approach me with a hugh catering size tin of peaches mine for £5
Problem was we were close to the ground so I declined but booked him to mind my car
A splendid Scouse tradition where you pay a couple of quid to avoid damage to your car.

Looking forward to doing my bit with the West Yorkshire Clarets next week at the Liverpool game.
Please bring a tin of something and throw it in the bin, preferably not ricocheting off me on its way in!
Great cause

Re: Clarets for Foodbanks to launch at Liverpool game
It is. I’ve been astonished as to just how busy they are and just how many are in need. I was the one who put the idea forward and am coordinating it all. I didn’t think it was too much to ask to man one of the wheelies a few times and take a tin with me to every home game.dougcollins wrote:Great cause, so bloody sad that people have to rely on it.
I’ve seen how much good work has been done by supporters at other clubs, none more so than at Everton & Liverpool. It will be fantastic if we can make a similar contribution.

One of the richest countries in the world and people have to rely on foodbanks and many of those using the foodbanks are the working poor.
BTW: I think it's highly commendable that some of our fans are getting involved in the food collections. It's also great to see that Up The Clarets are involved too. Well done to all concerned!

Definitely eye opening to see how many people are in need. I know a lot of people are only a few months without a wage away from being desperately in need and possibly homeless. Great move to help those in need!Billy Balfour wrote:One of the richest countries in the world and people have to rely on foodbanks and many of those using the foodbanks are the working poor.

Bumping this up to the top.
Can confirm that West Yorkshire Clarets members will be looking after the collection points this Saturday - if you can let others know about this initiative then please do so.

It might be worth asking Jon Walters to help out.ClaretTony wrote:Bumping this up to the top.

He seems to do a lot of work with a Liverpool foodbank. It would be great publicity.

Re: Clarets for Foodbanks to launch at Liverpool game
And I've volunteered Up the Clarets for the Chelsea game so will be looking for people to step forward and man the bins for that game.
In some ways I'm looking forward to doing it, despite the reasons for doing it. I think it will be good to see as many of our supporters as possible getting behind something that is so positive.

Accy Clarets are hoping to get enough volunteers to cover a future game (we would need 8) and if anyone is willing to help out please either email me on peter.baron@sky.com or leave a message on this thread.

Well done to the organizer.but food banks in the UK in 2019.people should be disgusted by this.since the tories came to power cities and towns.in the UK are like something from a Charles Dickens novel.beggars and homeless out side nearly every shop.but i am sure Boris will find more benefits to cut from the poor.so he can cut the tax for the better off

You can make your political points all you like, but I'm afraid the poverty issue will always be with us ... it's a fact of human life, very little to do with which of the two major parties are in Downing Street ..wembley94 wrote:Well done to the organizer.but food banks in the UK in 2019.people should be disgusted by this.since the tories came to power cities and towns.in the UK are like something from a Charles Dickens novel.beggars and homeless out side nearly every shop.but i am sure Boris will find more benefits to cut from the poor.so he can cut the tax for the better off

I've been tasked with cleaning out our pantry on Saturday morning so I will be bringing more than one tin with me.
I have also asked a couple of my Liverpool season ticket holders friends who are coming to the game to spread the word.

Re: Clarets for Foodbanks to launch at Liverpool game
I understand from a volunteer that works there, than they get plenty of baked beans & tinned peas donated from their usual sources, and they have an arrangement with a cereal manufacturer, so they are OK for them at present ..
Tinned soups, Corned Beef, Spam and Tuna, Tinned sweetcorn, carrots, potatoes, green beans and well as tinned pears, pineapple, peaches, fruit-salad etc are particularly welcome, as well as toothpaste, new sealed toothbrushes, soap etc. A friend took four unused sealed deodorant/bodywash's from a Christmas gift he hadn't used ...
