At this very moment playing for Dyche's Burnley it would have to be Barnes. If I was a supporter of any other team in the league and I had a choice of getting Wilson or Barnes for the same fee, on the same contract, with the same wages it would be Wilson without hesitation

I would guess pretty much every other manager given a like for like choice would pick Wilson over Ash. The same goes for Abraham as well.

For an international team who are trying to play fast, free flowing football on the deck Callum Wilson every day of the week.

Wilson and Abraham are dwarfed by Kane.

Barnes is different.

I take Ashley B

Oh yeah I forgot, Barnes can’t play with the ball at his feet, that’s why all his goals this season have been headers
Maybe I’ve got my tinted specs on but I have a feeling if Ash played for Villa, West Ham or Everton day, he’d be in the squad. Same for Tarks.

How about when we were under the cosh against Croatia and the ball were bouncing off Harry Kane?

Barnes's conversion rate is spectacular - imagine how many he would score if he played for someone like Liverpool ?!

For England obviously Wilson. He suits their style of play much more and international refs wouldn't put up with any of Ashley's ****.

Wilson for England is this serious?
Ash has scored more goals and offers far more to the team.

Would Barnes be as successful in a less direct team that played a different style? Same as Ben Mee, stick him in a team where the full backs and midfielders bomb on and he's expected to be comfortable on the ball and get left exposed it's a completely different ball game. Not sure why it's so difficult to understand for some people.

I agree it's a surprise Tarks isn't in. But Southgate has had a look at him in a few squads and maybe just doesn't think he's up to it?

If you compare strike rate, there’s only one answer and that’s Ashley.

For those suggesting Wilson, he has more pace but that’s about it. As for Abraham he has age on his side but overall on current form Ashley is the best and the key thing is he gets better season on season

Rickie Lambert anyone? Looking great for an average Prem side doesn't automatically mean you're gonna tear it up playing for a bigger club or England.

You comparing Lambert to Wilson? Or Abraham given he has only played a handful of prem games......

Rickie Lambert went from league 1 to the prem in the space of a few short seasons whereas Ashley has been there for 5 of the last 6 seasons

PL Goals last season:

Wilson: 14
Barnes: 12

Mins per goal:

Wilson: 181
Barnes: 199

Assists:

Wilson: 9
Barnes: 2

It's no contest.

I like Barnes for us but you have to be pretty cuckoo to claim he’s better than Wilson.

3 games this season.

Barnes 4 goals
Wilson 0 goals

Perhaps one is getting better and the other one worse

We can add this season to last and agree that Barnes is better, no contest.....

It is hardly no contest as they have similar records in fact

3 games? Is that it, a real shame we only have 3 games to judge them off. Oh wait....

Why not go the whole hog and judge them on their entire PL careers?

Wilson - Mins per goal 209
Barnes - Mins per goal 250

Rather than choose last season and not this. One is getting better and the other is getting worse. Wilson was at his best before his long term injury.

If Southgate wants Wilson then fair enough, let him pick him.

Whoever goes will be mainly a bench warmer whilst Kane is fit, they might get 5-10 mins if we are winning by a decent margin or Kane gets injured.

maybe because England should have a team built around the strengths of Mee and Barnes :D

To be fair, I don't think Southgate is thinking of picking a team for last season.
