Anyone Driven Into Manchester This Morning?

Post by ElectroClaret » Fri Aug 30, 2019 11:14 am

Believe Deansgate's shut, or part of it, but are the diversions around it OK, or choked up?
Due to drive in this aft, but if its too bad, I won't bother.
You usually don't get the full picture on traffic reports.

Thanks in advance.

Don't know where you are travelling from and to but wouldn't it be worth checking the trams?

Deansgate has been local access only for a number of years now, so I can't see it having a major effect. Most traffic uses the ring road.

I have some bulky equipment with me, CT or I may well have tried that.

Need to drive.

I thought that might be the case if there was a need to drive, otherwise it's always a lot easier parking up and getting the tram in if it's convenient.

Protest planned to last four days.

Clogging up traffic is great for the environment

It's hardly had an impact on traffic as there's plenty of alternative routes unless you desperately need to drive on that short part of deansgate.

Deansgate isn't remotely as busy these days anyway but it's actually nice to walk along today, plenty of people milling about without the cars and trucks.

MCC should pedestrianise it, would be an ace alternative to Picc Gardens.

Managed to get 4 days off work again have they? Position a bulldozer at one end of Deansgate, 5 min warning to clear the place then any remaining great unwashed get dozed out of the way.

Probably less difficult to get 2 days off given it's over a weekend.

Point being there's more work in a sick note than there is in most of these perennial protestors.

You're right, there's a lot of older folk there at the protest.

Not seen Burnley as bad for traffic congestion in ages ! bumper to bumper and hardly moving all around Asda and Active way and the college.
Not helped by numerous roadworks on virtually every road in town either.Tried escaping through Brougham street/Danehouse road only to find it completely shut at the top .

At least they are trying to have a voice about the world - however futile that may be.

To the idiot who sprayed Graffiti on public property on Deansgate today. Using plastic based paint from an aerosol can really doesn't help the environment.

I was on deansgate today. I listened to young and older people who are asking what will they say when their children and grandchildren ask them in years to come, why did you not take action when it was clear that our generation was ruining the environment but did nothing about it.
They are 100% correct and I admire their drive and commitment.
And no one was unwashed or smoking weed, and I honestly wish that I could have had their intelligence and awareness when I was their age.
But I didn't and was a scathing know it all, a bit like you are now mate.

Can't see any logic in that at all when there's a train every hour right into the centre and it only takes about 45 minutes from Manchester Rd.

The trains are totally unreliable and consistently late.

I tend to get the bus to be honest. The bus stop is about three minutes walk away and the bus pass makes it free. :D

Suppose it's the last few days before the new school term starts, for the entitled ones, to inconvenience and stop ordinary working people from getting to work or enjoying their leisure time at the weekend.

What I'm concerned about is, and they clearly haven't thought this through, but who's going to be left to finish off the Guardian cross word for God's sake !?
