Re: Defour bids farewell
Great interview, and very open and honest about his time at Burnley - what went well and what hasn't, the relationship with the fans, his colleagues and the team mentality, and the club in general.
One of my favourite Burnley players I've seen since my first game in '77, and certainly one of the most technically gifted.
Some of those who've posted disrespectful and frankly shameful comments on the other thread ought to watch the interview and realise all he's wanted is to simply play football and do it well - not sit on the sidelines injured.
I wish him well in the next chapter of his career, and thank him for some of the great moments we've seen from him in a Burnley shirt.

Steven, I wish you and your family good health and good fortune. I enjoyed watching you play for my club and wish your time here had been injury free. Please spread the word for Burnley FC in Belgium and maybe recommend our club to good Belgian prospects. Thankyou.

Re: Defour bids farewell
Defour was a shining light in our team whilst fit, though I don’t think he would be now. The players he was alongside then have all developed into better players now and we have recruited others. He was good for us while fit, but he’s no longer needed. Good luck D4

Probably to either avoid registering or to watch it on a website where the media player is reliable, fast and doesn't spend ages buffering.wilks_bfc wrote:Why do you need a YouTube version?

Great interview why would he do that if he didn't care about Burnley and its players and staff and fans.
Its such a shame he got injured so severely.
Thanks for the memories Steve

Re: Defour may leave before European deadline
Loved watching Defour. One of the best Burnley players I've seen since my first game in '77.
I wish him well in the next chapter of his life and career.
It's an excellent honest, intelligent and considered interview on Clarets Player where he talks about both the good times, and the regrets that he suffered injuries which prevented him from playing more.
Ashamed that we have some 'fans' posting cynical and frankly disrespectful comments earlier in this thread. I sincerely hope he doesn't get to read those as they don't reflect the views of the majority.
We should simply remember the great moments he brought us when he played, and hope he is able to get back to a level of fitness where he can enjoy the remainder of his career back home and closer to his family.

Great interview, spoke well, good luck Steven in your next venture.
Think as he said, he needed the move, and it's best for all parties.

Top player and seems a genuinely nice fella. Although only a handful of memories some were truly magical. Free kick at Old Trafford. Debut goal v Hull. FA Cup v Brizzle. Good luck for the future Steven

Excellent interview.
He's obviously just as frustrated as we are that he couldn't play more football for us. I'll miss him.

Possibly one of the most technically gifted players to pull on the Claret and Blue of Burnley Football Club in my time watching.... If he wasn't injured ... one wonders just how much further he could have taken us but hey ho ....
Good luck to the lad wherever he goes....
Thank you Steven Defour you will always be a Claret.

Only three goals but all fantastic and unique. Such a shame that he’s gone.
Re: Defour bids farewell
The goal against Bristol City was one of my all time favourites on the Turf. Anyone can get lucky and score a 30 yard screamer but not many players would have the vision and ability to score a goal like that.

Re: Defour bids farewell
A good decision by the club to let him go. He'd be starting for a top 4 club if he was ever injury free so we'd have never signed him in the first place had that been the case. It was a gamble that can be argued - would we have finished 7th without him with the first half of that season we had with him? Not a chance.
Re: Defour bids farewell
Some players make their mark and leave an indelible impression on a club and fans.
Steven Defour is one of those players.
His goals were fabulous - the 'twist, curling lob' will remain in my mind forever. It made me gasp at the time and I still find it the best individual goal I have seen via one single piece of skill.
He was majestic and saw the pass or just kept the ball until there was a pass. Superb player for us.
Huge regret that he suffered such severe injuries.
A brilliant final interview.
Thank you Steven Defour. You did us proud at a vital time.
Best wishes for a glorious end to your career.

Not sure how much he really wanted to play. In value for money terms he has been a poor investment. Purchase price plus wages minus sale price divided by games played equals ?

Re: Defour bids farewell
Good player but 51 games over 3 years ain’t enough. Not signed as a goal scorer but 2 is a poor return. He has cost almost 8 million plus wages of say 6 million. So 14 million for 51 games. So over quarter a million per game !!!! Was he ever Dyche fit. Hope he does ok in the future
Re: Defour bids farewell
At least we got some kind of contribution out of Defour. Was a massive part in us finishing 7th. How much are we wasting on Gibson, Vydra and Wells? Cost us about 30 million in fees and probably best part of 90 grand a week in wages, it's crazy.FCBurnley wrote:Good player but 51 games over 3 years ain’t enough. Re: Defour may leave before European deadline
I suggest if he was never Dyche fit he wouldn’t have played 51 games....
We have players and have had players no longer with us that have cost more than that per game. None of those were in the class of Defour...unfortunately you have to pay big money in the premier league and are at the mercy of the player’s fitness, however, if he had an exemplary fitness record he wouldn’t have been anywhere near turf moor in the first place.

I don't care how technically gifted he is. He's been fleecing us for the last 12 months at least and we're well rid.
How much has he fleeced from you ? How much have you put into the club during his time here.
Shame how things worked out for everyone during his time here, some of the comments on this thread are a disgrace but then you see who has put them and realise it is their form.

SSSHHH do you know our second 11 cost almost 60 million - but dont say anything on here about it though

Can a club in our position afford to have squad players on 40 grand a week, or completely frozen out, i.e Vydra? Re: Defour may leave before European deadline
Well I for one will remember him fondly as one of the best players to play for us during a golden age for the club (actually the most technically gifted and someone that makes watching football a pleasure). The cost is relative to the income and in that case he has been far more valuable than many examples before and since. League position when he was on fire has basically paid for him...

At CB? I'd say yes. Can we afford to be without an able replacement if Tarks or Mee gets a long term injury?jrgbfc wrote:Can a club in our position afford to have squad players on 40 grand a week, or completely frozen out, i.e Vydra? Vydra, I'd agree. It's clearly not worked out and Dyche doesn't like what he's offering. He had 20 good minutes against Sunderland and then didn't offer much.

Re: Defour may leave before European deadline
I think age is the key here. Defour is a brilliant player but unfortunately he hasn't been fit enough (player or PL demands, who knows?). But I am old enough to say he isn't the best player I've ever seen here (but he is up there to be fair). Dave Thomas, Leighton James, Brian Flynn, Brian O'Neil and, particularly, Martin Dobson all come to mind, and that's not to mention players I just missed like Jimmy Mac and Ray Pointer (the only time I saw him was late in his career playing at the Turf for, I think, Portsmouoth). For those who are old enough Adamson's 'team of the 70s' was outrageously talented and could have easily won the league but, like all things under Bob Lord they were all sold eventually.DCWat wrote:You’d have to be of a certain age to have seen better, so far!!
I hope Defour goes on to bigger and better things because he IS extremely talented and it's a shame he won't play for us again. To those of you making stupid comments like 'who' and 'he's had us over' and generally making out that he was just freeloading I'd say get a life. He's at an age where he wouldn't want to be sat on his backside watching the money come in, I'm certain he would much rather have been playing.
