Remember Burnley’s full back trying to make sure his move to United couldn’t have come too soon,Torquay I think, his final game if memory serves.

Re: An Evening with Lee Sharpe
He was "the next big thing" in the early 90s I recall. Left wing for United and a bit of a flyer, had a few injuries and was superseded by Mr Giggs. When I lived in South wales in late 80s/early 90s, I had a Villa supporting mate and went to Villa Park with him for a few big games (+ a balti afterwards I recall with some relish). I saw Lee Sharp score 2 goals in one of those game (1992/3 ish). United had Bruce & Pallister at the back- very solid pairing. McGrath very good defender for Villa too in those days.
Presumably Lee Sharp has a few insider anecdotes about his days in the game, maybe he can spill some beans on Giggs who replaced him in United's team?

Don’t think you can expect any dirt on Giggs... they were very tight coming through together. They were regularly out around town as mates, and I’ve never heard much of change in that respect.LeadBelly wrote:He was "the next big thing" in the early 90s I recall. The Utd team with Giggs, Sharp & Kanchelskis in it in the early 90's were brilliant to watch and absolutely frightening at playing counter attacking football

Re: An Evening with Lee Sharpe
My impression was that Sharp had bags of talent and genuine flair and for a while he was the darling of Old Trafford (well one of them), but he may not have always been the easiest to manage and his attitude/ego may have been his downfall, especially when you realise he was up against Alex Ferguson who really didn't cut anybody any slack or take any prisoners, so only one winner there. Without googling it I can't say where exactly he went after UTD, but naturally it was downwards and he definitely had a stint at Bradford. It always seemed a shame, but as so often happens with UTD they know exactly when and who to get rid of and they rarely, if ever go on to better things.
Re: An Evening with Lee Sharpe
He went to Leeds after United I think
He just liked to party too much - he was at the nightclub they all used to frequent in Wilmslow far too often. He started picking up injuries too and SAF was one of the best at knowing when to get rid of players.
I remember that game at Arsenal away in that horrible busy blue strip I think - they scored 6 and absolutely battered em....Sharp was brilliant
He seems quite a sound bloke when i’ve seen him on the TV.

I’d go to that if I was still local. Very talented player but too much of a playboy lifestyle. Bet he has some good tales - maybe with some embellishments, but that’s par for course at these type of things.

Re: An Evening with Lee Sharpe
Organised a similar night with Lee Sharp before and have to say was one of best sportsman’s dinners I’ve been to.
He is a brilliant speaker and has some cracking stories. Including one about Giggs.
He was a very good player too.
Definitely recommend it if you can go.

Re: An Evening with Lee Sharpe
My best mate went to a SMD with Lee Sharpe and said it was the funniest night he has ever been to. Tells some brilliant tells about the class of 92.
In fact if I can get a sitter I might go myself. Heard he is class.

Schmeical, Parker, Pallister, Irwin, Bruce, Sharpe and Ince, Hughes, McClair, Keane and Cantona, Robson Kanchelskis and Giggs.... ....Devils_Advocate wrote:The Utd team with Giggs, Sharp & Kanchelskis in it in the early 90's were brilliant to watch and absolutely frightening at playing counter attacking football

Will he discuss his “ meningitis” I wonder ? or the hairy chested ones penchant for a left hook when the fairer sex are around?

Amazed a club in Burnley can attract a Chinese International to talk...

The fact that he is doing these events shows that he has no money left.

Re: An Evening with Lee Sharpe
I’d disagree, if you can get payed £500 to sit and talk for an hour or so why wouldn’t you, he doesn’t live too far from BurnleyLS7 wrote:The fact that he is doing these events shows that he has no money left.
Re: An Evening with Lee Sharpe
He lives in Leeds. He must be absolutely skint to be rocking up at WMCs for £500 after a career of footballer’s wages and then a period of TV celebrity (remember Celebrity Love Island).

Re: An Evening with Lee Sharpe
He did one in Barnsley, he's good value. I doubt he has too many regrets about his career, although no doubt he faded away. He was great to watch when he first appeared and, as above, part of a really exciting United team back then.

He’s “rocking up” to help raise money for a kids football club.LS7 wrote:He lives in Leeds. He must be absolutely skint to be rocking up at WMCs for £500 after a career of footballer’s wages and then a period of TV celebrity (remember Celebrity Love Island).
I suppose Sir Alex must be also skint as also does this kind of thing and I bet for significant more than £500
Re: An Evening with Lee Sharpe
Ah ok fair doo if it’s a charitable endeavour.
I still think he’s skint though.
