Not sure which is the worst. This or the Fireman Sam story.

Modern day law, society and political correctness is a load of crap. These things used to wind me up, now they just make me sad.

Where it says that the family will seek compensation, would that be a wife and children?

Yeah, the wife is clearly upset that her husband was busy shafting someone else whilst away on business....

If you read the article, it is clear that it is the use of Fireman Sam as the force's mascot that it is the issue not the TV programme which did, indeed, include a female. The service has moved on; it's Fire and Rescue these days and the personnel are classed as firefighters not firemen. To ditch the outdated image makes sense.

You just proved my point about political correctness. It's a bloody mascot not something used to have a go at the suffragette movement. Maybe the mascot should be gender neutral and Bertie Bee should be changed to Betty Bee.

I think the fact something like this gets national coverage and some of the upset and outrage from lots of people on Twitter like they are personally being hurt by this says more to me about the sad way this world is going.

I couldn't care less what the Fire Service do about a stupid mascot and I dont see why anyone else should.

Just to add some balance if there were any groups actively pushing for a change in the mascot then they are as pathetic as those on social media crying about the change

The BBC are the ones saying the Company is liable.

It looks to me that the Company were trying to avoid paying the life insurance policy that most British companies provide to all employees. There used to be a common misapprehension that work life insurance was only paid if you died at work. Of course this isn't the case. The state provider is correct, the BBC have tried to sensationalise the story.

What a bloody thing to happen though!

If Bertie Bee was changed to Betty Boo in her early 90s pomp, I'd be very happy :D
