Twitter feed has Cooney as No 2.
Richardson & Mc Glynn are quite small, think Barnes and Vydra. However a nice strong midfield pair. Philips & N'Guessan.
I see Richardson won the penalty.

Looking forward to next Mondays game Koiki is proving to be very good since moving from LB to LW (I assume he is wing and not Striker)

seems the move to LW is suiting Koiki, shame we couldn't get him out on loan, but if he carries on like this then surely someone in L1 or L2 will be will to have a look at him in January.

Read something from Oldham last week. They’ve decided to reduce the number of players they bring in on loan because it’s not cost effective.Goobs wrote:seems the move to LW is suiting Koiki, shame we couldn't get him out on loan, but if he carries on like this then surely someone in L1 or L2 will be will to have a look at him in January.

I would have thought it would be the other way around, but I guess a lot depends on the player, the club he comes from and how he ultimately turns out.ClaretTony wrote:Read something from Oldham last week. I can understand Benson because he’s not played any first team football but Koiki did well at Swindon last season. Looked as though we would get some on loan but then clubs pulled out.Goobs wrote:I would have thought it would be the other way around, but I guess a lot depends on the player, the club he comes from and how he ultimately turns out.

It's not cheap for clubs and often players need a lot of game time to get up to scratch.
I wouldn't develope other clubs players at great expense to me if I was a club owner.

If he was ready to be in the squad then I'm sure Dyche would have done so, but unfortunately for him he plays in two positions that barring a massive injury crisis we are very well stocked up in.

I don't think you need knowledge of an individual player to understand that at 20 that player should be pushing for first team football, so if not with us then perhaps a division or two lower. 10 years is a short career, how long do you think a player would want to stay in a development squad if he has little chance of breaking into the first team?claretonthecoast1882 wrote:His in-depth knowledge of the player based on watching him several times.

Had he said he should be looking at a loan move to a lower league side and getting first team football you may have a point, but he said he should be in our squad against Norwich this weekend.

Fast with a eye for goal we need to shake up our bench
Why some folk think hes not worth a chance is beyond me
One of our issues has been reluctance by Sean to change the team
The point at Brighton and use of subs better than in lots of games may point to a new approach .

I'll ask again then. If you are going to put him in the squad it would be ahead of who? Brady? Taylor? McNeil? Pieters?Woodleyclaret wrote:Fast with a eye for goal we need to shake up our bench

Or would it be someone else? Vydra? Jayrod? Hendrick?
It's not that people don't want to see young players given a chance, but what has he done in the game thus far to prove that he is more deserving of a place in the squad than any of the above not to mention others such as Gibson, Long, Bardsley and what about the other promising youngsters such as Glennon, Richardson or Benson? Are they not equally deserving of a chance?

We had a pedestrian in Lennon at Brighton
Thats one position wide right and fast we need as we failed to sign a player for that spot in Summer
None of the others mentioned could be described as pacy and wingers.

The big number 5 for Ipswich i'm told captained Shrewsbury last season in league 1 ... Richardson ran him ragged
especially in the 2nd half ..

Richardson must be handled well.
We need to ensure we dont stifle his development with loans to National league teams
Hes an England international and should be encouraged to keep striving for a first team berth

It doesn't matter if they are pacy wingers, what matters is that they are very good players who are capable of playing at this level.Woodleyclaret wrote:We had a pedestrian in Lennon at Brighton

You can only have so many players in your match day squad and so in order to bring in an inexperienced youth player on the off chance they may have what it takes means that you would have to remove one of the others.
Are you suggesting we drop Lennon from the squad and replace him with Koiki who plays on the opposite flank? Do we then start with Hendrick and have two left wingers on the bench in Koiki and Brady?
I like to see young players come through as much as anyone but I'm trying to understand your comments but they just seem nonsensical to me considering his unknown talent compared to what we already have.
Guess it's just a differing opinion though which is all good so maybe just leave it at that as I appear to be rambling on like Long time lurker now

Re: Burnley v Ipswich - U23 Latest
Very much so but the key word there is prospect and right now he's nothing more than that and a 16-year-old prospect at that. Having said that, against a big strong experienced Ipswich defence today he did really well and definitely doesn't look out of place in a team that he'll still qualify to play for in seven years time.Bosscat wrote:I've seen Richardson several times now this season and he looks very good.

This is a 20 year old man who clearly is doing his very best in our reserves. Now, if he is not going to make the first team squad, don't we owe it to him to find him a club where he can start to play league football?

That's exactly what we tried to do by getting him out on loan. I thought you didn't want that. He did well at Swindon last season and the plan was to get him out to another club this season. Hopefully we will do in January. as for owing it to him, if club's don't want him there is little we can do about it.boatshed bill wrote:don't we owe it to him to find him a club where he can start to play league football?

Not sure why we would do that or why anyone would think it a good idea. Let's hope a couple more can get out on loan in January.

You know that I disapprove of the loan system, to me it's a bit like "stockpiling", for use of a better word. It strikes me that Koiki is playing really well (6 goals in 6 games?) one can only assume he's putting everything he has into it,so if he is unlikely to displace anyone in the first team squad despite these performances, perhaps it's BFC's duty to find him a club where he can further his professional career, maybe in the next window?ClaretTony wrote:That's exactly what we tried to do by getting him out on loan. Because at 20 he needs to be getting on with his career.
Re: Burnley v Ipswich - U23 Latest
Who knows? But there is more than one way to have a football career. Who knows, maybe Plymouth Argyle thought like you when they ditched Ashley Barnes at age 20. You don't get rid of promising players just because they might not make it, and you don't get rid of promising players just because they don't fit the idealised template of a professional career progression.boatshed bill wrote:I don't think you need knowledge of an individual player to understand that at 20 that player should be pushing for first team football, so if not with us then perhaps a division or two lower. 10 years is a short career, how long do you think a player would want to stay in a development squad if he has little chance of breaking into the first team?

Great to read about young players progressing whether or not they make it eventually into the first team squad. As far as Richardson is concerned, could the same thing happen to him as happened to that young lad who Man U signed from us but unfortunately didn't appear to fulfill his earlier promise? I'm not sure on the contract situations these days and would Burnley turn down a sizeable offer from another club?

Re: Burnley v Ipswich - U23 Latest
So we've brought a young lad into the club from nowhere, progressed him over three years, seen him develop but because he's 20 and not in the first team you think we should ditch him, not only ditch him but you think it is our duty to find him another club. I think player development might have passed you by.boatshed bill wrote:You know that I disapprove of the loan system, to me it's a bit like "stockpiling", for use of a better word.
