Phobias
Do you suffer from an irrational phobia?
My childhood phobia was snakes. And my Mum's button / needle and thread box. I have got over the snake phobia.
Yours?

Here you go have a gander (unless you suffer from Anatadaephobia as this is also geese as well as ducks )

It’s strange because I’m a good swimmer and have no issue with the sea or rivers.cbx750 wrote:Same with me Hibs, I'm all right on the sea or rivers but hate to be near still dark water.
It’s usually stuff from childhood so I reckon it could be part of a film I saw as a kid or even could have started with the the diving pool at the Thompson centre...

Absolutely love snakes (unless it's trying to kill me of course!)
But have absolutely terrible arachnophobia and also claustrophobia. I keep thinking I really should get some therapy for the former.

I'm with you on that, although I'm not as bad as I use to be.
I use to be very wary of anything that "flaps" so walking along towards a pigeon on the ground, makes me nervous as never sure which direction they would take off and i freeze whenever there is a moth regardless of size
I'm not as bad now with birds, since we acquired 3 budgies (I know odd choice of pet considering, but its a long story), but moths still freak me out.
Oddly not as much fear with butterflies

Re: Phobias
When I was young, I did not like walking across the weir, on the Thames, at Reading. Always felt like I was not in control of my balance. Probably something to do with noise and fast water, right next to you.

I have Thalassophobia, fear of the sea. It's not knowing what's below me that's the problem! Absolutely fine going swimming at the leisure centre so it's not the water.

Re: Phobias
What is strange about my claustrophobia is that a few years ago I was bought a ride in a hot air balloon. As we went up in the basket, I was suddenly gripped by acute claustrophobia. All that air, open space and sun lit sky, but TRAPPED!! An absolutely awful feeling. I did manage to get some degree of control (I HAD to as there were others in the basket and no way were we going straight back down) but I absolutely hated the whole experience and was a gibbering wreck.

Covered 3 of those on a site I run in the past - and they seem to come up in quizzes now and again too. Coulrophobia I believe started to become much more known about since the original of "IT" by Stephen King was released.Bosscat wrote:Set up a quiz once about Phobias ... there are some ace ones out there....
