Re: Burnley v Everton - Player Ratings
Pope - 8 - When he comes for them crosses it really takes the pressure off - although I thought he had missed one towards the end
Lowton - 6 - Didn't think he had his best game but always keeps going
Tarkowski - 8 - Much more like himself this season - one shocker of a pass in first half that put us under a bit of pressure but other than that cruised through the game - however he and Mee weren't up against much
Mee - 8 pretty much same as Tarkowski - made some good interceptions...we are so much better when these 2 are on form
Pieters - 8 - Very impressive again at home - seems to play his best games at the Turf...was surprised when he stayed on the pitch
JBG - 5 - Looked sluggish and not much came off for him
Westwood - 7 - Maybe a harsh mark but he did what we just expect him to now
Hendrick - 9 MOM - gives us extra legs in the middle - great to see him playing so well at the moment
McNeil - 8 - being noticeably man marked at the moment but still making an impact - fantastic run towards the end to win us a corner....looks a lot fitter towards the end of games than he did last season too
Barnes - 5 - not really involved much
Wood - 6 - same as Ashley...but looked better when Jay came on
Taylor - 8 - looked like he had never been away
Rodriguez - two good showings off the bench in a row....had a yard extra pace than Barnes and Wood
Two solid teams I thought....hard earned 3 points
Lowton - 6 - Didn't think he had his best game but always keeps going

Re: Burnley v Everton - Player Ratings
Pope - 8 nothing to test him but he's got really safe hands and took the pressure off when he had to.
Lowton- 7
Tarkowski - 8 superb winding up of the useless Richarlison
Mee - 8
Pieters - 7 should have gone off after the injury, lucky it didn't cost us as he could hardly run
Westwood - 7
Hendrick - 9 came into his own in the 2nd half, carried the ball well and was more dynamic. Off the ball hw was superb and was spriniting all over the gaff to cover. Doesn't score rubbish goals, does he. Lovely controlled finish.
McNeil - 7 a marked man but he's shrugging it off at the moment
Gudmundsson - 6 good to see him back
Barnes - 6 hit that rising ball really well but that was his only sniff today
Wood - 6 when he did win it in the air it went to no one
Taylor - 7 looked like he'd never been away
Everton are awful and Silva remains the most fraudulent manager in the PL but it took the red card for us to really get a grip on this game. From then on we were patient and got a deserved winner with a top finish from Jeff and his magnificent hair. Thank God he's grown it back.
We're looking very good indeed so far.

After his stunner in the game at Stamford Bridge, last Season, he was referred to by one Journo as akin to a “Tattooed Disney Prince”. I’m sure that was a back-handed compliment, but it was a good one.

I missed the Everton team and had genuinely not realised Richarlison was playing first half, I thought he’d come on at half time when he came out of the tunnel. He was truly truly awful wasn’t he.Lancasterclaret wrote:Thought we were good first half, started the 2nd half a bit slowly but did what we had to do after Colemans idiotic 2nd yellow

Re: Burnley v Everton - Player Ratings
Pope - 8 - Safe handling, particularly on some high balls when he appeared back to the commanding form that we saw two seasons ago.
Lowton - 7 - Not at his most composed in possession, although he was safe enough defensively.
Pieters - 6 - Did fine defensively, but another that was a bit less composed on the ball than we needed him to be. Hopefully the injury isn't too bad, although Taylor won't give the shirt up again easily.
Tarkowski - 8 - One dodgy pass aside in the first half, he was very assured and commanding.
Mee - 8 - Read the game superbly and bailed us out of trouble a few times, most notably when McNeil dropped a rick early on the second half.
Westwood - 7 - Ratted well, might have been a bit more composed in possession a few times.
Hendrick - 8 - Took a little while to grow into the central role, but once he did he was excellent and he was the one to take the game by the scruff of the neck once Everton went down to ten men. Took the goal beautifully (and he'd shown similar technique when we used the same move in the first half, only for Pickford to save).
JBG - 5 - Not really in the game, and largely ineffective when he did get the ball. Did OK with the first half header that was as close as we came before the break.
McNeill - 8 - Steady enough in the first half, when on a couple of occasions he wanted to see more movement ahead of him, and became a very composed outlet as the second half wore on (that one slack pass which forced Mee into a desperate tackle aside).
Barnes - 5 - One of those afternoons when Ash got suckered into scrapping rather than playing. He needed to show his more subtle skills to get the better of Mina and Keane, and unfortunately, it wasn't his afternoon.
Wood - 6 - More effective than Barnes, but a touch clumsy with the one chance that came his way, and offside too often when he didn't really need to be.
Taylor - 8 - Got up the speed of the game quickly and provided a much more potent outlet down the left than Pieters had offered, which helped everyone.
Rodriguez - 7 - Although he was helped by the fact we'd just got the lead and so Everton allowed a bit more space, he a bit more mobility, and a lot more subtlety, than Barnes had shown, and we were a lot smoother as an attacking force as a result.
Well, much like last season, after playing Everton at home we have 12 points. Thankfully, we're the best part of three months earlier in the season this time, and whilst we weren't at our best today, we stayed disciplined, kept Everton just about at arms length and then got our rewards once Seamus Coleman lost his brain and got himself sent off.
Unusually, this was one of those days when our front two were outdone physically, and with the two full backs and JBG a bit below par, we lacked any real constructive outlet in the first half, save for McNeil's occasional forays on the counter. The second half was marginally better, but in truth we the covering of the central midfielders and the discipline of the back four was keeping us in the game before Everton self destructed. In the end, after scoring a super goal, we were probably guilty of butchering 2 or 3 gilt edged chances to kill the game, but truth be told apart from a few high balls Everton didn't really threaten to get an equaliser.

Re: Burnley v Everton - Player Ratings
Pope 8. Commanded his box today.
Lowton 5 Poor from Matt. He got most things wrong today unfortunately.
Tarks 9. Carrying a knock but very solid game.
Mee. 9 Rightly MOM. Imperious today.
Pieters 7 Horrible challenge by Coleman. Should have been straight red.
JBG 7 Looked sharp.
Hendrick 8 Great finish to cap a solid performance.
Westwood 7 The Terrier in the middle of the park.
McNeil 8 Caused them no end of problems.
Barnes 6 Mr Angry.
Wood 6 Not that effective TBH.
Rodriguez 6 Should have closed the game out with great chance.
Taylor 8 Welcome back Charlie.

Tarkowski 8 solid
Mee 9 excellent all game, faultless
Pieters 6 caught a few time, his lack of the overlap meant McNeil had 2 on him every attack.
Gudmundsson 6 quiet, but his first game back, will take time
Westwood 8 every where
Hendrick 8 excellent and not just for the finish.
McNeil 7 better 2nd half when he wasn't doubled up on, the driving runs helped ease pressure and win valuable set plays
Wood 6 quiet, bullied by the CB. Unless the nalls 12 yards from the goal you dont want the ball near him.
Barnes 6 quiet, bullied by their CB
Taylor 8 some excellent runs, gave McNeil more room and options. Caused Everyon some problems although they were a man light.

Re: Burnley v Everton - Player Ratings
Pope 7 little to do decent distribution
Lowton 6 better 2nd half but a bit sloppy 1st
Tarks 8 see Mee
Mee. 9 unbeatable in the air MOM
Pieters - 1 sloppy effort but decent enough until injury
JBG 6 game but never really troubled despite 1 early great ball collected by Pickford
Hendrick 8 inc 1 for goal great 2nd half struggled 1st
Westwood 7 neat and tidy
McNeil 8 double marked always a risk looked sharp deceptively quick
Barnes 7 grafted and 1 cracking effort
Wood 6 did nothing wrong but not quite there
Rodriguez 7 good hold up play and ready to start imo
Taylor 7 upto speed and played well welcome back

Westwood 7 really committed
McNeil 8 enjoy watching him

Taylor 7 did well when came on. We have 2 good left backs
Everton have some very good individual players. As a team we are greater than the sum of its parts. Thought we did a really good job of seeing the game out particularly in extra time.

Re: Burnley v Everton - Player Ratings
How anyone can mark Pope below 7 is beyond me. With one slight exception he totally dominated his box and claimed everything. A good save in the first half ensured we didn't go behind, his distribution was generally good, and his ability to waste time without picking up a yellow card was exemplary.

Can everybody please edit your scores and mark Mee and Tarks down by one mark because Everton were pap. Thanks.burnleymik wrote:Mee and Tarks were both very solid, but a large part of that was because Everton were absolutely toothless.

Re: Burnley v Everton - Player Ratings
Pope 8 - confident display which helps the entire defensive unit. Always in control.
Lowton 7 - did ok
Mee 8 - classic display
Tarkowski 8 - composed performance
Pieters 6 - unfortunate injury but I actually think it helped us when he went off. Not as dynamic as Taylor.
Gudmundsson 6 - not really in it today
Westwood 7 - very tidy
Hendrick 8* - another assured performance capped off by a great finish. MotM for me.
McNeil 7 - not much change first half, but drove forward superbly 2nd half
Barnes 6 - not really in it. Outmuscled by the centre backs
Wood 6 - as above but some decent hold up
Taylor 8 - just what we needed, really incisive runs and should start regardless of Pieters injury
Rodriguez 7 - thought he showed more nous up top and looks sharper
Lowton 7 - did ok
Mee 8 - classic display

Westwood 7 brilliant corner for goal
McNeil 8 very good today
Barnes 7 worked hard against good center halves
Wood 7 as Barnes
Rodriguez 7. Looked sharper today but missed a good chance to close the game out
Taylor 8 looked like he had never been away Great run to win the corner

I despise it when people criticise other posters player marking unless it’s ridiculous. Without reading through all of these I trust you attended the game and will be marking the players ? On this occasion I assume this is aimed at me and I will change Pope to 7. More laziness on my part and doing this quickly. He did well but also didn’t have too much to do.

Re: Burnley v Everton - Player Ratings
Pope 8...brilliant to have such a tall commanding keeper. Kicked better today too.
Lowton 8...a really good attacking outlet and I think it was him who pulled off a fantastic block towards the end of the first half to stop them taking the lead,
Mee 10..because I can't think of anything he could really have done better. For a relatively short bloke he doesn't half get up well and he baled us out after Dwight's dodgy pass early in the second half
Tarks 9...class. We have two superb CHs
Pieters 7...solid.
Westwood 8...he doesn't half work hard. Very good today..keeps us ticking.
Hendrick 9..really is on top form just now and looks a high quality PL midfielder. Great finish.
JBG 6...great player but today wasn't really his day. Worked as hard as ever though and god header on goal first half.
McNeill 8...love to watch him and he is getting better and stronger all the time. Tremendous run up the left wing right at the end of normal time.
Wood 6......Another player who worked his socks off. Not quite his day either today, nor was it is partner's
Barnes 6...see Wood
Jay- Rod 7..added a bit of composure and ball retention to our attacks
Taylor 8..brilliant to see him back and looking as good as ever. His shirt now I think.

Re: Burnley v Everton - Player Ratings
Pope 8 (rock solid)
Lowton 7
Mee 9
Tarks 8
Pieters 7 (just ONE moment when he seemed to be asleep first half, but it almost cost us!)
Westwood 8
Hendrick 9 (+1 for popping up with the winner!!)
McNeil 8 (excellent and has far more "legs" these days and remains a force now right to the 96th minute!)
JBG 7 (not the force he can be imo and brilliantly created then bloody missed a great chance to ease all our nerves)
Barnes 8 (+1 for working absolutely tirelessly whilst still urinating into the breeze!)
Wood 7 (yep, he also works hard, but he's ponderous and slow and he's STILL to learn the offside rule and players of the quality of Michael Keane absolutely eat him alive)
Taylor 8 (it's never easy coming on in a game and picking up the pace immediately, but he was immediately brilliant today, both at the back and going forward)
Jayrod 7 (definitely got at them and gave us a boost when we needed it)
Actually a poor game overall imo and whilst I KNOW we can play better, you have to ASSUME Everton can with all the "quality" at their disposal. Lots of neat, busy play from Delph and Iwobi looked fine, but had absolutely no end product and thanks to Coleman's total brain fart coupled with Hendrick's great finish we managed to edge it and sneak off with the points and I'll gladly pocket them!! I'm in the camp that believes Cork works hard, but has become very slow and can get caught out rather often and I was hoping for an upgrade in the summer, BUT I have to say we missed him today and looked a bit rudderless at times, so I hold my hand up. Having said that, Jeff is winning everyone over with his displays in whatever position and long may it continue!!
