What accent(s) grind your gears? I'll start with Glaswegian.

Re: Worst accent?
Ours is pretty bad. Dont realise how awful it sounds till I go back to Burnley and hear it everywhere. Couldn't do with living down the West Country and hearing that accent all day.
The accents of backwater Yorkshire towns between Barnsley, Rotherham and Doncaster are so bad they are funny but I'd hate to have the infliction personally

Always found the Scouse one strange - the Scouse accent on a good looking lass seems to make her more attractive yet any other time it grinds my gears!TheFamilyCat wrote:Scouse, no contest. More so, scouse women.
The brum accent is the worst IMO.

Gangsta / grime , even worse when white lads/lasses try it, sounds horrific.
Birmingham
Dont mind the female version of the Welsh, irish or posh Geordie accent.

Re: Worst accent?
I don't think there is much worse than Lancashire dialect - really (and Yorkshire). Despite being a Lancashire lad I really don't like it and it makes us sound thick. Thankfully because of my work I haven't got broad Lancashire but people still know I'm from Lancashire or (worse still) Yorkshire. Otherwise I don't have much problem with other accents apart from Essex, who also sound thick but with arrogance, horrible twang.
A few have said Brummy but I love it, they all sound like comedians even when trying to be serious. Sexiest accent on a female...mmm...I think I'd have to say Geordie (with Scouse second).

Re: Worst accent?
Probably the most irritating would be either Brummy, Glaswegian or Mockney.
Do like a southern Irish accent, as well as the West Country accent.

Apologies to anyone from the Black Country around Brum, Dudley and Wolverhampton .... but that one really grates...
Or another is heard mainly about 10 miles down the M65 from Burnley spoken by someone who enjoys "thurr murrs burr in t'curr purrk befurr travellin on't Buzz tu Blackburrn"

Remember pulling a very tidy scouse lass in Benidorm. I genuinely didn't understand a word she said all night. Smiles and nods and she was none the wiser.claret2018 wrote:A strong scouse accent is practically a disability
