Chris Wood
Finally looks to be playing his size. I felt he was a bit like Joe Bugner and didn’t use himself to best advantage but yesterday he was at it and looked so much better for it.
Now he only needs to work on his finishing. Ironic for a player who scores so many.

Looked immense yesterday, and you know what? If we really got behind him he might score even more goals.

Re: Chris Wood
Been excellent recently. Love how he brings the winners into play by holding the ball up then ghosting into the area. Header yesterday was top class
Re: Chris Wood
Wood was shredded earlier on here, and some of the criticism was warranted. But the fact is, over the course of a 38 game season, quality will always shine in the end. And Chris Wood is a top quality striker.

I don't know if it was a tactic by them, but their two centre backs seemed to drop off and didn't want to know aerially.
Would have liked to have seen Barnes up against them two. They didn't look all that clever to me.

He’s vital to how we play; his work off the ball until recently appears to have gone unnoticed by many; his performances are now being rewarded with a healthy goals return; an absolutely excellent season to date.

I said in the summer that he'll get 20 goals this season and I still stand by that. He's on 4 (should be 5) in 9 appearances now.

My next door neighbour is a big Leeds fan and didn't think he'd make it in the Premier League. If only the thread where I suggested we sign him hadn't been deleted. I remember ClaretTony saying 'no thanks', but he wasn't alone. Half the posters on the thread didn't want him.

Wood has done well since mcniel started playing. He was getting very little service prior to that, having to feed on hoofs up the field and offside too much. Mcniels crosses are food and drink for him.

Wood was widely bad-mouthed, as was SD not that long ago. It’s good to see that the more far sighted fans on here are being vindicated for not slagging either off. Personally, I’ve never been happier to be a Burnley fan, and we should appreciate this golden period because who knows how long it will last. FWIW, I really think we can get something from Chelsea at the weekend which is refreshing, because that was one of the teams I used to expect a battering from. These days, anything is possible from this team and manager.SGr wrote:Wood was shredded earlier on here, and some of the criticism was warranted. I agree. Man City and Liverpool are clearly the best teams in the Prem, by some distance. After that, we can pick up points against any team.BennyD wrote:Wood was widely bad-mouthed, as was SD not that long ago. A Leeds supporting mate of mine, yes I know, didn’t rate Wood at all calling him a donkey. Just imagine how much Leeds would be benefitting from the service they are providing, if only they had a proven striker leading the attack. I’m so glad they don’t.

Re: Chris Wood
Wood was playing the role of Barnes on Saturday hence the number of arial duels he was involved in.
Both forwards, Wood & Barnes, Wood & Rodriguez, know what is going to happen when they release the ball wide so their anticipation is faster than the defenders which makes good attacking football.

Why dwell on the negative? If he has a bad game, he’s had a bad day at the office, that’s all. If he has a good game applaud him. It doesn’t cost anything and you’ll feel better. He's a frustrating player, he scores plenty of goals for us but misses plenty and offside a lot.BennyD wrote:Why dwell on the negative? He scored a brilliant header on Saturday but made a complete hash of an easy chance and should of scored at the first time of asking with the VAR goal.
We simply can't afford to leave goal scorers out but he will always attract a bit of criticism.

He's offside because his instructions are most likely to play as close to the deepest defender as possible. It's the decision makers' speed of pass (or lack of it) that puts him offside a fair amount of times.

It was not an easy chance - he lost his bearings and was not sure where the goal was.Quickenthetempo wrote:He's a frustrating player, he scores plenty of goals for us but misses plenty and offside a lot.

As for the goal - his first attempt was well saved from the keeper who spread himself very well.
Wood is decent and has a good consistent record in this league - there are not many strikers who cost as little as he did who get 10 to 12 goals each season. He’s got 4 goals from 9 games this season.
Of course he could score more but if he gets into that 15 goals a season level he will not be playing for Burnley for much longer.
If you look at the stats of strikers who score 15 goals in the Premier League you will quickly see the difference in price and salary.

This is going to end up having a big go at Wood just to win an argument. I was saying fans are right to sing his praises when he does well and not so when he has a bad game.
And then explained why they get frustrated but stated we need him in the team.
