What a film! Good stuff.
Who was the Burnley man knocked out by the ball, blocking a shot with his face? Ilike the way they rushed to him and yanked him to his feet. Concussion protocols aren't what they were.

Our boys look so much taller than the Liverpool players and much more agile as well.

What a great bit of film and what a proud history we have.

What an amazing film. The Burnley player who takes one in the face is George Halley.dsr wrote:What a film! Good stuff.

A proud Tommy Boyle walking down the steps with the FA Cup in his hands and the good Lady Ottoline Morrell in the background.
What a day and what a triumph for Burnley.

Interesting that despite the colour clash it looks as if Pool played in red shirts

Interesting stadium set up. Some of the crowd were miles away from the pitch.
Also interesting to note the lack of shirt numbers, and the absence of ‘D’s’ on the penalty areas.

Re: 1914 Cup Final Film
That's superb. Some it was used on the Rhapsody video the club put out around 20 years or so ago but not all of it.
Re: 1914 Cup Final Film
What a poor view the spectators must have had - miles from the pitch and not much elevation.
Notice the lack of the 'D' on the edge of the penalty area. That didn't come in until 1937:

Edit. Oh, I see his Lordship got there ahead of me. A thousand pardons My Lord.

I seem to recall Claret Tony saying he vividly remembers the whole day...

Re: 1914 Cup Final Film
If you watch closely one of our lads, jumps the rope when the players come out and then goes back under it because he needs to line up for the ceremonials, but AFTER the ceremonials he (or another player) tries the exact same thing right on the edge of the camera shot and falls flat on his face!! In front of about 114,000 people! Not a good start to your cup final!!

The gate was given as 72,778, not 114,000.

Re: 1914 Cup Final Film
I was using a bit of artistic license Vino!! Anyway, later on I'm going to pause the film and count them all because 72,000 seems like a low figure looking at that, so maybe a bit of early tax dodging there!! It looks more like about half a million tbh!!!Vino blanco wrote:The gate was given as 72,778, not 114,000.

Re: 1914 Cup Final Film
What an occasion this must have been back in 1914, over 100 years ago, not just for our winning team but for the thousands of Burnley supporters who travelled down to London. As ClaretTony posts we've seen a brief part of the film in the OP but most of it is first time viewing and the only pity is that Bert Freeman's winning goal is omitted.
So many stories from the day but the most unfortunate player must have been our goalkeeper Jerry Dawson. He made 569 total appearances for us from 1906 through to 1928 (a record that still stands here) and he was injured just prior to the semi-final against Sheff United. He ruled himself out of the Final which must have been a difficult decision to have to make.
As for the fans many from Burnley were given a guided tour of the House of Commons on the morning of the match by the wife of our local MP Philip Morrell. Reports I've read suggest many Burnley fans were not arriving home until Monday and Tuesday of the following week probably still suffering with sore heads. Of course we've been involved in two FA Cup finals since, both at Wembley, but the one in 1914 was our only victory.
