Our two capitulations in the last two games with the reintroduction of Westwood and Cork to centre midfield should be of note!

Pope 5 a couple looked suspect, 1 smart stop saving a massacre
Lowton 3
Tarky 4
Mee 3 how many mothing lunches and mis placed passes
Peiters 3 as above
Hendrick 4 as poorer hane as I remember, did nothing and I mean nothing of note
Westwood 4
Cork 3 cant run, pass, tackle, take on a man or create
McNeil 4 see Jeff
Barnes 4 missed the only chance, which was a good 1
J-Rod 4 nothing game
Taylor 6
I don't think I've seen a game where the midfield 4 ( especially the middle 2 ) created so little.
We never once drove at the Sheff Utd back line creating an angle, an overlap or taking a man out of the game.
We looked slow, weak, ponderous and lacking in any sort of an idea.
It's not over reaction to say this has very much been coming.
We are a very reactive side, who dont change personnel or tactics regardless of opposition.
We dont seem to exploit weaknesses the opposition may have, nor do we try anything different, and by that I mean approach play, free kicks, corners etc.
An extremely poor day at the office, and if we dont change the starting 11 and/or approach soon it could prove very costly.
Final point, can we please look to improve the first 11, it's been 2, maybe 3 windows where we haven't moved forwards in terms of quality or style regards with people we bring in, in the starting 11.
1 upset and angry Macca!

Pope 6
Lowton 3 at fault in some part for all 3 goals so many misplaced passes worst performance in a Burnley shirt.
Tarkowski 6 another error leading to a goal lost on did not help him much 100% effort till the end though.
Mee 5 300 games now what a signing shame it was a poor game.
Pieters 3 rightly dragged off been a good stop gap and cheap but SD should have brought Taylor back as soon as he was fit.
Hendrick 4 feels harsh as again played out of position but he was terrible along with lowton with ball distribution
Cork 4 too slow on the ball didn’t track men well enough gave ball away to much when we are losing he looks poor
Westwood 5 tried hard worked hard but struggled and was overran which pains me to say against the blades
McNeil 5 let the teams poor performance drag him down head dropped and looked fed up of not getting the ball quick enough when he did get it his options were limited
Barnes 6 missed a big chance but doubt it would have changed the result his work rate and attitude is reason for score of 6
Rodriguez 5 doesn’t seem to link well with wood or Barnes was one flick in first half I thought someone like ings or gray or Austin would have been there for but was a blind flick sadly doesn’t fit our current system.
Taylor 7 constantly running at the full back and providing quality crosses and was solid when called upon in defence. Must start next game.
Brady 5 changed nothing

Re: Sheffield United v Burnley - Player Ratings
5s for the midfield are generous in my opinion. We were completely overrun in there. How and why Dyche didn’t counteract that I have no idea! And why Vyds doesn’t get more than 10 minutes when Jay and Ash were that poor is beyond me...

Cork’s passing was absolutely abysmal and could have led to at least two more goals against.

Pope 5 did what he could not at fault
Lowton 3 One cross and sloppy again Bards please
Tarkowski 4 caught in possession...again for 3rd “ nail in the coffin goal”
Mee 3 either carrying an injury or just awful last few weeks
Pieters 3 some sloppy lunges/bad crosses/part error 1st
Hendrick 3 never got going at all
Westwood 3 scrappy and poor balls
Cork 3 ran about but seems to have lost a yard passing appalling
McNeil 3 just lightweight
Barnes 3 poor again missed good chance
Rodriguez 5 as ever nothing to feed on
Taylor 6 our best player
Brady 4
Sheff Utd were also sh1t so not a good show at all

Re: Sheffield United v Burnley - Player Ratings
Absolutely horrendous day out.
Spineless, pitiful and pathetic.
Each and every player gets a 4 from me, equally as inept as each other. However the biggest culprit today was Dyche. He can’t be excused of criticism today, the reluctance / arrogance to combat an opposing team cost us that game.
Ps: They get a 4 because I blame SD more than them and 3 is the lowest

Pope 5
Lowton 3 should’ve been replaced 2 years ago but we blew the budget on a 4th choice central defender and 5th choice striker instead.
Tark 4 thinks he’s Beckenbauer, but has the passing ability of Marvin Bartley. He might aswell turn around and shoot at his own goal.
Mee 4
Pieters 3 another signing, another who isn’t better than what we have. Taylor was our best player last season, really came on leaps and bounds, why did the Dutch Brian Easton become first choice? and how has he remained 1st choice?
Hendrick 4
McNeil 4
Cork 3 another who shouldn’t be starting, a sign of continuous poor windows. He’s like an empty crisps packet in 100mph wind, he’s weaker than the lager in the prinny royal.
Westwood 4
Barnes 4
Rodriguez 3 we chased this guy for years, mind blown we offered £16M for him. He looks like he’s running in water with bricks tied to his feet. He looks unfit to me, uninterested and at least 54 years of age.
Dyche 5/10, not the result we’ve come to expect but certainly the style of play. I’m not surprised when we don’t muster a shot on target anymore, just like I’m not surprised when we lose in the cups against lower league dross, just like I’m not surprised with a lack of quality signings. It’s all stale, boring and predictable at the minute. It’s sad but I’ve lost interest, the passion remains but the excitement is gone.

Re: Sheffield United v Burnley - Player Ratings
Pope - 6 left exposed for all 3 which were easy finishes
Lowton - 3 woeful
Tarkowski - 5 another error leading to a goal
Mee - 5
Pieters - 3 rightly hooked, offered nothing going forward or back
Westwood - 3 dire. Could do with a match fit Drinkwater to replace him.
Cork - 5 fighting a losing battle on his own today
McNeil - 4 two men on him most of the time and little support from the guy behind him
Hendrick - 6 tried to play a bit of football, should probably move into the centre with cork
Rodriguez - 6 one of our better players on the day, another who tried to play some football. Could do with a few games partnering Wood ahead of the hopelessly out of form
Barnes - 4 the early season glory has faded somewhat and he can't buy a goal right now. Problem is when the football side of his game isnt going for him, the other side looks even worse.
Taylor - 7 should have started, got forward really well. Must keep his place now.
Brady - 4 garbage free kick and very little else
This was as bad as I've seen us under Dyche, all 3 goals were poor ones to give away, especially the two just before half time that finished the game off.
This result was more about how bad we were than them being any good and some changes need making.

This was as bad as I've seen us under Dyche, all 3 goals were poor ones to give away, especially the two just before half time that finished the game off.
This result was more about how bad we were than them being any good and some changes need making.
Re: Sheffield United v Burnley - Player Ratings
Just watching Watford. Losing 1-0 but looking way better than we did v Chelsea and would certainly beat us on current form. Now that is worrying

I have to agree with Krbfc dyche has lost my interest and excitement out of football

I can't rate the team as I only listened to the game on Radio Lancs but I can't recall Hendricks name being mentioned, I had to check the team sheet to check if he was on the pitch.

You come out with some utter garbage but please tell me how you get to that conclusion. They have created nothing. Certainly less than we did last week...FCBurnley wrote:Just watching Watford. Re: Sheffield United v Burnley - Player Ratings
I don't feel comfortable giving all of the players are mark out of ten for the match. Our lads were set up to fail today.
I've read a few comments saying how good the Sheffield players were today.
On the one hand I agree with that, they were excellent and played with full commitment and lung busting stamina to meet the demands of their playing script.
On the other hand our tactics ( or lack of them ) made it very easy for them. They simply had to turn up and do their regular job against a team that offered no surprises.
At every twist and turn their framework allowed them to field more players in any given situation. Our midfield was overrun, because it was generally two against three. Our attackers struggled, because again it was two against three ( a situation that was made more difficult because one of our two attackers was largely invisible ). Even when we did get a few more up front Sheffields solid line of 5 at the back with 3 midfielders in front made them pretty much impregnable.
Whatever the exact numbers in any given situation actually were they always had more players contesting the ball.
Most of our lads looked a shadow of themselves, simply because our tactics placed them at a considerable disadvantage and that left them with far much to do. Sheffield have a formidable game plan and we had no answer for it. Looking at our initial set up it appears that we didn't even try to find an answer for it. The net result is that their players finished the game looking like super stars and our lads looked second rate.
Lowton and Pieters needed to be rock solid to force a win today and they weren't. Loton didn't cover himself in glory and Pieters was poor. Granted Sheffield were holding back slightly in the second half, but the difference when Taylor came onto the pitch was like night and day. We looked far more secure at the back and more urgent up front. He also launched in a couple of excellent crosses, which made a change from the " hit and hope " ground scrapers that Pieters frequently delivers.
Hendrick didn't have his best game, but he had a lot on his plate. Not only did he have to contened with Stevens who was constantly marauding up the left flank he also had to help out Cork and Westwood who were being beaten by a three man stick. It's no wonder he looked at sixes and sevens sometimes with so many fires to put out. On the other flank Sheffield had the measure of Mc Neill and pretty much cancelled him out completely which exposed Pieters.
Barnes worked his nuts off trying to get in and amongst it as normal, but it was a big ask of him to get anything. Jay was superfluous, just as he has been in the two matches prior to this one. He was constantly fluttering around looking to get on the end of something instead of busting his balls to make something out of nothing.
With Wood and Barnes up front we are effective, but without either of them our attack can look fairly impotent. The two of them work extremely well together and while Jay is a useful backup he isn't a direct replacement for either of them. I think the disruption to our most productive partnership has had more than a little to do with our lesser performances in the last three matches.
Given the testing conditions I thought Pope played well today. Take away his performance and the score line could have been a lot worse.
The rest of the players were tried, tested and found wanting to various degrees. When the framework fails everyone fails, that is our our weakness.
In terms of 1 - 10 ratings
I would give our match analysts 2 out of 10.
We should have known what Sheffield were about and planned accordingly. Injuries reduced our options, but setting up to play our normal game was a huge mistake. Without Wood we should have gone with the old 4-4-1-1 with Hendrick as our qwirky number 10.
I would give Dyche 6 out of 10
He was tactically out smarted today by the new Burnley ( Sheffield ), although he did try to shake things up in the second half. Hopefully, he will have learnt a lot from today and that will play into Taylor regaining his regular slot.
Moving on it should also bring home how truly poor our performance was in the last transfer window. A better third choice striker and a more dependable midfield backup could have given us far more choices today. To think that over 8 months of dedicated planning went into it defies excuses. Bringing in players to make up the numbers who will allow us to deliver much of the same in response to injuries or a loss of form ( albeit to a lesser degree ) isn't going to cut it.
Putting aside the financial burden of paying big fees and wages for last contract players, we need incomings that will actually improve us over the short or long term if we are going to stay in this league.
Yes it's another long post, but given the circumstances of today I should get points for being polite and restrained.

Pope 6 - just had to pick the ball out the net, no fault of his own
Lowton 3 - christ
Tarkowski 4
Mee 4
Pieters 3 - Dyche removing someone at half time speaks for itself
Hendrick 5 - he can be a frustrating player
Cork 3 - weak as ****. At least Westwood gets on the ball. Not sure what he’s offering and Drinkwater should replace him - maybe Hendrick in the meantime
Westwood 5 - ok but part of a midfield that are generally hopeless against an opposition midfield five
McNeil 5 - struggled to get into it. They did well against him
Barnes 4 - struggling. Key chance after half time that might have made it slightly interesting.
Rodriguez 5 - gets a 5 as the rest of the team played as if he is Chris Wood. He is not that type of player and we have simply not adapted. Partnerships should perhaps be Barnes/Wood or Rodriguez/Vydra. Not sure mixing and matching works.
Taylor 7 - he’ll be starting next game
Brady 6
Why did we not see that coming from Sheff Utd? I thought they started very impressively, but it’s concerning that we had no clue how to deal with them and that basic balls in the channel caused complete mayhem. They’ve been playing the same way for a good few years. We’re also fairly useless against a midfield 5. Note that no strikers scored today.
I think we should acknowledge that they were excellent but it doesn’t make me feel any better after that. It might be a Hull/Everton moment. Team meeting incoming early next week I think!

Re: Sheffield United v Burnley - Player Ratings
Buckled at some of these ffs but a lot is true - particularly re Cork. For a team so heavily dependent on graft, the lack of physicality in a few key positions really is startling.KRBFC wrote:Pope 5
Pieters 3 another signing, another who isn’t better than what we have. Taylor was our best player last season, really came on leaps and bounds, why did the Dutch Brian Easton become first choice? and how has he remained 1st choice?
Cork 3 another who shouldn’t be starting, a sign of continuous poor windows. He’s like an empty crisps packet in 100mph wind, he’s weaker than the lager in the prinny royal.

You’re never far off the mark usually with your scores Tony but Cork MOM. I totally disagree with you. His legs have totally gone. Lethargic on the ball, can’t pass more than 5 yards. Sad to say but he’s finished at this level.
Pity we’ve no one to replace him at the present time.
