The BBC will do well to ever find someone half as good at what they do as Attenborough has been and continues to be.

A national treasure.
Even my daughter who is less than one is mesmerised by his series'. Sure most if that is his voice as much as anything else.

Phenomenal viewing again. While many of the animals we’ve seen time and again still makes it so compelling. Some of the best footage yet too. Especially the penguin scenes.

So good had to watch again. Incredible. Especially the lengths they go to get the footage. Looking forward to the next one in Asia.

Maybe the OP, in future, can put "(still alive)" in thread titles involving beloved national treasures to avoid causing panic.
And perhaps also in titles involving Tory politicians to avoid... ooooh, i can't make that joke.

I was watching his Blue Planet series the other day and my 4 yr old daughter slowly stopped playing with her toys, then just sat watching it and eventually came and sat next to me and watched the whole episode with me.cricketfieldclarets wrote:A national treasure.

I really had to pay attention to what he was saying because she was asking me why the fish were doing whatever they were showing

Hell, he's just a presenter. He doesn't take the pics., I'd be surprised if he writes the script, and if he does, at age 93, then he ought to be cloned.

Re: David Attenborough
My understanding is that he defo writes his own scripts. I read an interview with him recently (wish I could find it again to link) and he talked about how a lot of it comes from the heart and some of it is ad-libbed....he is a fantastic talent and the world will be worse off when he does finally pass.Bullabill wrote:Hell, he's just a presenter. Incredible programme.
Emotional to watch it with my six year old in tears asking ‘why are we destroying the animals’ homes.‘
How distressed must Attenborough feel when he has literally seen the acceleration of utter destruction of the natural world in 50 years of broadcasting. Essential viewing.

Re: David Attenborough
Outstanding vieiwing again.
The walrus' was incredibly sad. The monkeys and orangutans beautiful animals.
Makes me sick what we are doing to our oceans, forests and creatures. Good on Attenborough for putting the message out there. And fair play for him highlighighting some palm oils are ok.
We can all make a difference. Even if its just a little. 7 billion people making one change will make a huge difference.

Incredible once again. Harrowing in plenty of places too.
My problem with watching it is that it fuels the travel addiction, and now I need to book a trip to one of those places to satisfy the urge.

On the subject of the walrus scene. Imagine the faces on the first people who discovered that.

Re: David Attenborough
I can't imagine it. In Kenya a few weeks ago, some of our group had to observe baboons discover very small leopard cubs, and attack them - it was very emotional for those who observed it, and they couldn't get that out of their heads. It's nature, and it's an incredible view of the reality, but equally harrowing.cricketfieldclarets wrote:On the subject of the walrus scene. Imagine the faces on the first people who discovered that.

Sorry didnt explain it right. I meant the faces when they discovered 100k of them in such a small space. But yeah equally I guess seeing them up there and fallingdandeclaret wrote:I can't imagine it. I know a few people who dont or wont watch these things because of how brutal it can be. But the best way to think of it is twofold. One its survival. And its the reason they all exist and thrive in the first place. And two almost all animals dont share the emotional intelligence we do that makes things like that sad. Most other animals are a bit colder for want of a better word.
That said none of the other animals would be so stupid as to completely destroy their own home as we do.

baboons are typical opportunists, and can be quite vicious.dandeclaret wrote:I can't imagine it.
