VAR on the big screen
Nice to see they have started putting the picture of the incident being checked by VAR on the big screen at grounds now. Well it was on ours anyhow.
Small steps and all that.

Re: VAR on the big screen
The refs should be mic’ed up and they should explain their decisions at the end of the game on motd, too long they have hidden away after giving ridiculous decisions

Re: VAR on the big screen
VAR display that the Goal is being checked, then they display the decision and then they show the evidence, before showing ‘check complete’
They only showed the evidence for about 3 seconds which I thought was shocking.

Re: VAR on the big screen
Think they’re trying to give you as much time to see the incident as the onfield ref so that fans can sympathise....good luck with that one premier league.

Re: VAR on the big screen
It's clearing up practically nothing and where it does work and clear something up on the one hand it actually creates even more controversy on the other with it's next application and all that is being compounded by the absolute age it takes to come to a decision (like Wood's offside goal yesterday and his equaliser at Leicester) which all means it really can't be "clear and obvious" in my book. Consequently we're STILL all talking about dodgy decisions which have affected the outcome of games and slagging referees off, so nothing has changed, so what's the point in it???

The big screen cant be seen fron the JHU seats so they can put anything on and we'll never see it

Only certain seats in the JHU .... at the back at that end... I sit in JHU and have a good view now the sides have been angled...Woodleyclaret wrote:The big screen cant be seen fron the JHU seats so they can put anything on and we'll never see it
It also cant be seen from seats at the back in the Bob Lord either... or at the back of the JMU in some seats.... that is why there will be a 2nd screen somewhere where all can then see a screen...

Re: VAR on the big screen
So where are you going to place it so everyone can see if it needs to be visible to certainly parts of the Longside Upper, back of the Bob Lord and back of the Jimmy Mac Upper? It's going to one hell of a screen.Bosscat wrote:Only certai oarts of JHU I sit in JHU and have a good viwe now the side s have been angled...

Re: VAR on the big screen
Seeing the screen for about 2 seconds and from that distance made the offside look inconclusive, which judging by the talk at half time in the concourse really fired many fans up.
In fact, it was clear on Sky highlights he was offside by about a foot. We need to find a way for that to be clear to everyone in the ground.

Re: VAR on the big screen
Exactly where is it going to go .... I was talking about exactly that ... A 2nd screen is required somewhere so the people who cannot see the current screen have a view of it....ClaretTony wrote:So where are you going to place it so everyone can see if it needs to be visible to certainly parts of the Longside Upper, back of the Bob Lord and back of the Jimmy Mac Upper? If memory serves Tony you were talking about a 2nd screen not that long ago and its possible siting... on the threads about the disabled corner stands

They have got a second screen but no decision taken on where it’s going.Bosscat wrote:Exactly where is it going to go .... I was talking about exactly that ... A 2nd screen is required somewhere so the people who cannot see the current screen have a view of it....

If it’s the same size as the one we’ve got I genuinely can’t see it fitting anyway other than the brand new flat roof we’ve just built.ClaretTony wrote:They have got a second screen but no decision taken on where it’s going.

Re: VAR on the big screen
Doesn't matter where you put it if it's not working. I was a huge advocate of VAR but, its implementation and interpretation are ruining what it should be, a tool for referees to "get it right".
There have been some humungous cock-ups created at Stockley Park. The sooner they are sorted out, the better, then display the results wherever you like.

Re: VAR on the big screen
The stand holding the most Burnley fans is the James Hargreaves. To put two screens up and that stand not have a decent view of either would be criminal. Of course the ideal is to have them in opposite corners but I can’t see a way of getting it between the Bob Lord and Cricket Field.Bosscat wrote:Perhaps on a gantry between JH and CFS above the tunnel .......

Why not beam project it when & if incidents arise, most of the time people would be watching the game in progress, you could have the app on a smartphone/tablet & watch via a unique access code if any particular stand prevented clear vision.martin_p wrote:The stand holding the most Burnley fans is the James Hargreaves. Unlikely to happen as the mobile phone networks won't see it as a worthwhile investment. Cellular jams are a common issue at all large gatherings.Jakubclaret wrote:In the event of IT investment & enhancing cellular data I meant.

I know, you'd need to be hardwired somehow or use wi-fi boosters, the cellular signals do drop, it's more of a futuristic idea pitched I think which will happen but not there yet, with app development & licensing & ensuring reliable internet coverage ect.deanothedino wrote:Unlikely to happen as the mobile phone networks won't see it as a worthwhile investment. Great view of the screen from J154 in the JML (when it's working that is). Look, if the budget is tight and it's either getting the screen fixed or hot water in the toilets; hot water please!

They'd need to start by upgrading the cell towers that are in the Jimmy Mac and then install small cells around the ground.Jakubclaret wrote:I know, you'd need to be hardwired somehow or use wi-fi boosters, the cellular signals do drop, it's more of a futuristic idea pitched I think which will happen but not there yet, with app development & licensing & ensuring reliable internet coverage ect.

I think it should go on top of Tesco in town, that way all the fans who have deserted the game because of VAR can at least keep up with some of the action whilst out *shopping with the wife.Bosscat wrote:Perhaps on a gantry between JH and CFS above the tunnel .......

The screen being temporarily out of action got me wondering if at some point a game would be abandoned because var couldn’t be shown on it?

Re: VAR on the big screen
apparently on Radio 5 Live Drive with Tony Livesey, he is discussing VAR with the bloke who introduced it, Neil Swarbrick. He has already said that if he did it again he would have the audio from the ref played over the tannoy along with the live review for the decision on the screen - but he cant change it himself.
Whole interview later I believe...

Re: VAR on the big screen
Swarbrick reckons VAR has been 7 out of 10. I don’t think he is using the same thresholds as our player rating thread then......
I’d say more like 3 out of 10 and that’s being generous and only because you can’t have less than 3....
Him saying that sums up the whole problem for me. They think they are doing a decent job with it...

They are doing a decent job because everyone is talking about VAR rather than the football. It is all media driven and is getting a response which is what they want.Hibsclaret wrote:Swarbrick reckons VAR has been 7 out of 10.
