Matej Vydra
Re: Matej Vydra
Think we've missed the boat with Bowen now. Last summer was the time to try and do it.

Re: Matej Vydra
It depends on finances. Only having 3 forwards, unless we can bring back Wells whenever we like (which I doubt), means should Barnes/Wood get injured for any length of time, we'd find ourselves without a forward on the bench.BOYSIE31 wrote:I couldnt agree more and that is why the lad Bowen would be ideal for us.

Does it matter these days which wing they play on and anyway should be able to use both feet
Re: Matej Vydra
Oh the old professional footballers should be able to use 2 feet argument - love that one.
Have you seen Charlie Taylor try to use his wrong foot ? Most of our team is one footed.

Answer would be a younger guy who has shown potential in the lower leagues or from overseas - something which our recruitment team have struggled to find for a number of yearsjrgbfc wrote:Who is going to want to come and be our 4th choice striker though and play one game a season in the League cup?
The likes of Bowen will prob not want to come here - will be looking for first team action
Re: Matej Vydra
The argument still stands though, how is there career going to progress? Barnes and Wood have just signed new deals and are nailed on to start, as well as Jay being 3rd in line. I wouldn't advise any young forward to come and sign for us tbh, after seeing what's happened to Gibson and Vydra.jojomk1 wrote:Answer would be a younger guy who has shown potential in the lower leagues or from overseas - something which our recruitment team have struggled to find for a number of years

Luckily for us you aren't an agent with a load of young, pacey strikers on your books then I guess

If we are in a decent position come Jamuary I really can't see us buying many if any new players. But selling Vydra and putting the money towards a new winger/midfielder would be a bonus. With JBG'sand Brady's fitness problems then it is the one area we would struggle if we got any injuries. So breaking the bank to get Bowen or Eze would be decent business.
Re: Matej Vydra
Lennon's contact is up this summer as well. With Hendrick potentially leaving also centre mid and right midfield are definitely areas we need to be looking at.Firthy wrote:If we are in a decent position come Jamuary I really can't see us buying many if any new players. I'd be very surprised if Hendrick doesn't re sign and leaves, as I don't think he'll get loads of (better) offers at "better" clubs tbh, so I'm fairly sure he'll be with us next season. As for Lennon, he won't be getting many tempting offers either, but I'd be extremely disappointed if we attempted to keep him on as I feel he brings little and we need to look for better.jrgbfc wrote:Lennon's contact is up this summer as well. Yup, we're at the point where we need to start thinking about how we regenerate the squad.jrgbfc wrote:Lennon's contact is up this summer as well. With Hendrick potentially leaving also centre mid and right midfield are definitely areas we need to be looking at.
Bardsley and Lennon will presumably move on in the summer when their contracts are up, and the delay in getting Hendrick tied down is a little bit worrying - and of course Drinkwater's loan may not be extended.
As a minimum we'll need to extend Drinkwater/sign AN Other midfielder, and with potentially three players who have operated down that right side leaving in the summer, I'd hope we'd want to start that rebuilding process in January too.

I think there'll be quite a few clubs attracted by the idea of Hendrick as a cheap supplement to their squad myself.Dark Cloud wrote:I'd be very surprised if Hendrick doesn't re sign and leaves, as I don't think he'll get loads of (better) offers at "better" clubs tbh, so I'm fairly sure he'll be with us next season. Re: Matej Vydra
The ongoing problem, we have to spend a large sum of money on our back-up players. The sooner we can supplement the squad with our own lads the better (obviously).
Re: Matej Vydra
We should not be in the market to spend large sums of money on "back up" players - we have been doing this for the last two yearsboatshed bill wrote:The ongoing problem, we have to spend a large sum of money on our back-up players. Yes, we are still in the Prem but our squad is getting seriously older now (a good number are now contracted until well into their 30's)
If we are to remain so, then an injection of new, younger players into the starting 11 needs to be seen in the next few windows

Re: Matej Vydra
The question mark re: Hendrick I believe is Sheffield United are keen in him, seems entirely feasible based on their largely uk / Irish based squad.
If they could match our terms they certainly have a competitive edge with their flexible style of play that could suit Hendrick tbf. I guess they find themselves where we were a couple of years ago and a player might potentially see that as a more exciting place to play, especially given Hendrick’s stage of career.
Re: Bowen - it was interesting to hear Nigel Adkins in TV the other day, saying they’d received no concrete offers for him when he was managing Hull.
