Those six players are not good enough to be playing Premier League football.
January has to be big for us for once and the board have to finally put their hand in their pocket otherwise it could be curtains.
Ideally Taylor would replace Pieters and JBG replace Brady but we need good squad players also to who are able to come into the team if we have injuries.

JRod 100% not good enough. We’ve two of the worst right backs in the league (I got called out for suggesting we needed a new one in summer). Brady i would give a chance too, cork can’t play without Westwood, Hendrick can’t play in centre mid in a 442.

We don’t tend to do business in the January window and, if we do, we don’t tend to put new signings into the first XI for several months.
On that basis, don’t get your hopes up.

Re: Lowton, Pieters, Brady, Cork, Hendrick & Jay Rod
I agree with:
Lowton: gets caught out way to easily on the wrong side and doesn’t have the fitness to get ahead and recover throughout a game. not good enough technically.
Pieters: see above
Cork: too lightweight for a CDM not got the passing ability to be a CM. Not good enough technically, not athletic enough.
I don’t agree with:
Hendrick: he’s got good technical skills and can easily hold his own in this league
Brady: not seen enough to make a judgement
JRod: good technically, links play well, way way off the pace currently.

Re: Lowton, Pieters, Brady, Cork, Hendrick & Jay Rod
The problem is there's been around 6-7 games on here when several people have said it was the 'worst performance of the season by far' - a game later and that's our worst performance of the season - and again and again.
So it's not just today or City. We've had 7-8 awful performances out of 16, although I doubt many expected anything from the previous 2 games.

Given two of the O/P list were our only permanent signings in summer it goes to show just how bad our transfer window was. Yet the self congratulations on here was something to behold (let’s not even start on Drinkwater). Yet, incredulously, there’s plenty on here apparently pinning their hopes on January.
Far,far too many old, bad signings over the last few windows. Pieters is the embodiment of a Dyche signing.

can't really argue with those, but only a few deluded uber fans must surely have the thought the likes of Lowton and Bardsley and Hendrick would make it this season. They're all good champ players and Lennon has just been a waste really. A sensible clearout is due as a matter of mnay players just having run their course. No need for panic ,Taylot is excellent and a high quality RB and CM would make a huge difference

I don't see many changes as most of them are under contract. We'd be relying on clubs coming in and making bids, and then spending a lot more on replacements. That aint going to happen.AlargeClaret wrote: ↑Sat Dec 07, 2019 6:38 pmcan't really argue with those, but only a few deluded uber fans must surely have the thought the likes of Lowton and Bardsley and Hendrick would make it this season. Jay Rod can play just behind a front two which must be our top two Barnes and Wood
We are badly missing JBG and Ash Westwood our two best creative players
But why bring the two U23 lads and not play them?
Kioki has pace to burn and a goal in him surely worth a punt

Hendrick, like Westwood, Is having to cover for Cork. Who is so slow, which is why he keeps losing the ball.
Hendrick and Westwood - when fit - should be our midfield.
I'd say that the next couple of windows are going to big for the club for ins and outs.

Re: Lowton, Pieters, Brady, Cork, Hendrick & Jay Rod
Lowton has always been a player who can not be trusted for a long period of time. Since he broke in our first lineup he had a mistake in him. Of course, he was superb in Championship and in a major part of 17/18 season, but as I've said - always a liability. We should have upgraded the right back position in the summer.
Pieters is a decent back-up to play in 3-5 games per season. However, he should have been benched aroung GW5 (when Taylor was fit) and as of now should not be anywhere near the starting team but we have no other option.
Brady is finished. Had about 5 good games for us since we had signed him. Done nothing in the last two years. Big flop and a waste of money.
Cork is nowhere near good enough anymore. Too slow, predictable and unable to find good solution when he has a ball. Good player for rotation, but should not start every game like he does.
Hendrick solid on the wing, waste anywhere else. Especially when playing behind a striker in 4-5-1.
Jay needs more game time for me to make a final verdict. He only started 4 games - was linking well with Wood against Leicester but other three starts (Chelsea, Sheffield Utd and Spurs) were the games were we were pretty poor.

Re: Lowton, Pieters, Brady, Cork, Hendrick & Jay Rod
Brady was class before he got injured.
Brady showed against palace he’s the only one who can play it forward, Barnes was hat garbage in controlling it.
Brady isn’t the problem.
Re: Lowton, Pieters, Brady, Cork, Hendrick & Jay Rod
Was he class? I remember reading a lot of critics on his behalf in the first few gameweeks of 17/18 season. The thing is that he finally found his form (Arsenal, Swansea, Bournemouth) before suffering injury. I feel that most people judge his pre-injury period by the three weeks before that crucial injury insted of almost ten months that he spent playing for us.Granny WeatherWax wrote: ↑Sat Dec 07, 2019 7:54 pmBrady was class before he got injured.

I can’t believe you’re leaving Mee out tbh. He’s been poor lately...actually for a while. He’s small for a Centre half nowadays, but has made up for that with effort which has made him a top player. If he’s off his game then his physical

Re: Lowton, Pieters, Brady, Cork, Hendrick & Jay Rod
What we need (in an ideal Burnley world!) is a new midfield. It's the key to everything. We must be one of the very few sides not to have a holding midfielder in our squad and that would make a good starting point. But is there anyone out there who we can afford, who wants to come to the club or who really fits the bill? The 'powers that be' need to find the answer.

Not an unreasonable assessment Frank . We’re on a hellish budget restraint and the players mentioned aren’t likely to start a stampede . I still think JRod has a spark with the right system and we seriously need a fit DD or equivalent , add Taylor to that and maybe a quality RB things look a lot better . Be great to see a real response on and off the pitch next week . Seems long ago since the crowed roaredFactualFrank wrote: ↑Sat Dec 07, 2019 6:41 pmI don't see many changes as most of them are under contract. Due to injuries they made up numbers on the bench. Your fixation with young players is worrying. Koiki is not the answer at the moment, but has shown some promise in league two.

Re: Lowton, Pieters, Brady, Cork, Hendrick & Jay Rod
Some of these players would flourish in a 2009 Burnley team, Hendrick is a tidy midfielder, better going forward than backwards, He would do really well at a better team in an expansive 451 with a better less rigid manager.
Rodriguez behind the striker would do well for Bournemouth/Watford or something, for us in this straight jacket negative 442 he’s shite and useless.
Poor recruitment year on year, never improving the first 11, same boring old players in the same boring rigid 442 = same boring performances. Lennon Brady Vydra Gudmundsson do these have more than 15 assists combined in the last 2 years?

wonder how many premier league appearances these players have between them??
I’m taking a quick guess at over 400
I won’t let that get in the way of a mass over reaction though.

Trouble is, over the last two years those "couple of guys a season" have only been good enough to become reserve players covering for injuryTricky Trevor wrote: ↑Sat Dec 07, 2019 8:30 pmChange 6 players and half of them won’t work out. So two first team starters each year for the last couple of years and two for this seems about right
13 of our current squad are contracted until they are into their 30's, only 9 currently under 26 so not exactly building for the future

Give him a load more money and he’ll come back with more of the likes of Walters, Bardsley, Lennon, Crouch, etc etc. So it goes on, the football is as turgid as it comes.

Re: Lowton, Pieters, Brady, Cork, Hendrick & Jay Rod
Lowton has had a chance too many for me at this level now. I like him, I prefer him to Bardsley (who isn't good enough for this level either) but yesterday was the final straw for me. A new right back is a priority.
Pieters is fine as back up, the problem we've had this season is that Taylor, who is clearly our first choice and a very good player at this level, has been injured.
Brady is still feeling his way back from injury, in reality. Before his injury, he'd got to a place of excellent form but he's struggled since the injury. I've never been fully convinced but there's something there and the reality is, we'll probably go down in the next couple of years and I'd rather have a player like Brady at the club than not.
Cork has been better than Westwood this season. I didn't think he was horrific yesterday and I think he's an important player for us.
Hendrick has been pretty decent this season although granted he has been rancid in the last 3 games.
Jay Rod is a back up striker and fine to be back up at this level. I actually thought he was pretty decent yesterday too.
We need to invest in some younger talent, no doubt and I'm particularly worried about this season as we look really poor at the back but suggesting that 9 players in a squad that has played at this level for four years aren't good enough for this level is a bit ott for me.

Re: Lowton, Pieters, Brady, Cork, Hendrick & Jay Rod
Yes Lowton is past his best but as for the rest of the list -
Pieters - decent standard as a back up
Brady - before injury he was our main playmaker, hopefully he will be again
Cork - fits SD’s system perfectly and covers more ground than anyone else
Hendrick - best in a midfield 5 but his versatility is a great asset
Jay Rod - different to our front 2 and can also play wide
Yes there are better players around - but we can’t afford them and we’re not in the market anyway

BUT
Cork is better than Westwood? Jesus!
Westwood and Drinkwater in the middle, Wood and Vydra up top.
Drinkwater, although breathing out of his ass, always was on the half turn looking for a forward pass, ala Vardy. He was a class above in that first start, we just don’t have anyone making that off the shoulder run.
Westwood is class, and he would do Drinkwaters dirty work.
Cork is bobbins, he’s a Poundland David Jones.
