Right back.
Central Midfielder.
Right Winger.

Bit of fun, who would you realistically go for in January?

I’ll start us off,

Jayden Bogle
Josh Brownhill (basing this on our scouting network, otherwise I’d look abroad at a more athletic type as we are so far behind on the middle of the park in that sense )
Jarrod Bowen

Perfectly realistic in terms of wages. Suspect it would take best part of 75-80m though

I've been quite impressed by Sidibe, the right back who's on loan at Everton. Has only had limited appearances due to Coleman.
Gets up and down the wing with a decent cross, strong in the tackle too.
Maybe an option if they go back to playing Coleman.

Not a chance with Phillips. We've already tried to go for him and he opted to sign a new contract.

No names, but how have Leicester managed to find players in Europe who have fitted in well, and they've made some serious profits out of it.

I think the Winter window is the best time to look at non domestic players. Be it first team additions or new blood for the development squads. Signing foreign players in the Winter window gives them a good few months to bed in. When we sign players in the Summer they pretty much have to hit the ground running in terms of settling into life in a new country and a new team which can be difficult.

So my three picks are non domestic players who should have relatively low price tags.

[ 26 ] RB / RM - Silvan Widmer ................... ( FC Basel )
[ 20 ] RM / RB - Alexis Saelemaekers ............. ( RSC Anderlecht )
[ 23 ] AM / CM - Viktor Kovalenko ................ ( FC Shakhtar Donetsk )

I actually think we need 2 new midfielders. A creative player who could operate in central midfield and provide us with a more traditional option as an attacking midfielder. The second midfielder would be a physical box to box type who could play in a more defensive role.

My top pick for a defensive midfielder would be

[ 21 ] DM / CB - Teun Koopmeiners .............. ( AZ Alkmaar )

I think he is better than Phillips, but sadly I think he also falls into the unrealistic camp. He signed up to a one year contract extension in November, Alkmaar are pushing for the top spot and Teun is the Captain and backbone of their squad. It is very difficult to prise away a quality player and a good Captain for a bargain price, unless you are Aston Villa.

I think their is zero chance of us signing him in the next window, but I would like to see us have a run at him with a 10-15m offer at the start of the Summer window. Accepting that it is unlikely and moving swiftly along if Alkmaar say no.

I would love it if we could sign players that run quicker, are stronger in the tackle and can trap and pass a ball better than those we watch week in, week out.

At least 3 but I wouldn't have a clue who.

I could be onto something here jobwise!

Really?

Look at my Tombola picks for the last window. With the exception of Alan Browne all of them moved to good clubs for relatively small amounts of money. The fact that Browne didn't fancy a move really surprised me.

Alibian Ajeti - as soon as our cheque for Jay hit their bank account WBA went in for him. They pulled out when West Ham entered the bidding and threw a couple of loans their way. Granted West Ham have only used him as a crutch to prop up Hallers lack of movement so far, but he is a good young striker with International experience.

Greg Taylor, another good young International that went for peanuts. Check out what the Celtic fans have to say about his performances since joining.

http://www.talkceltic.net/forums/thread ... 65/page-19

Robin Quaison was in the background when I suggested him, but he stepped up when Mateta got injured and he has a record of 1 in 2 as a secondary striker for a lack lustre Mainz this season.

I suggested a part exchange involving Wells and Lumley or Eze from QPR. Lumley is currently getting a lot of plaudits and people on here are now suggesting that we sign Eze, although his performances this season mean QPR are unlikely to sell for less than silly money. I also mentioned Josh Brownhill, another player that people on here are waking up to - after he has risen to prominence.

Ludovic Blas 21 year old who joined FC Nantes for £7m. Hit the ground running, having a strong first season and he has immediately become a key player for them, The same is true for Tonny Vilhena who went to Krasnodar for £8m. On the domestic front Sheffield snapped up Callum Robinson for £7m and he has been a solid acquisition who would have come in very hand on our right wing at the moment.

In relation to the development players I suggested Ludovit Reis was snapped up by Barcelona, Kyle Scott went to Newcastle, Chris Cadden is tearing it up at Oxford as a right back ( before he moves to the MLS ), and Brentford were very happy with Dru Yearwood as a prospect.

https://www.brentfordfc.com/news/2019/a ... nd-united/

I'm not going to go through all the players, but none of them were poor picks and the fact that they all went to good clubs means that quite a few people out there agreed with the names on my off the wall selection.

I might be prone to suggesting cheap players that not a lot of people have heard of, but that doesn't mean they are crap and other people have an automatic right to kick me in the nuts for doing so. My Tombola record is actually looking pretty good at the moment. Comparing it to Pieters and Jay Rod I would say that it is actually better than what we actually did in the last window.

Looking at the last accounts we don't have anywhere near the money that some people mistakenly think we have to spend on new incomings. We really can't afford to be signing " dead money " last contract ( high wage ) players or putting all of our eggs onto one basket by paying £20m+ for stand out young players.

I'm not including Bowen in that, because I think he would be a very bad signing for us. Good player, but he is a defensive liability and he spends most of his time in drifting into the centre of the pitch to poach goals. Put him on our right wing and Wood and Barnes would be scratching their balls waiting around for crosses that are never going to arrive.

The club moans about players being too expensive, but we make a rod for our own backs by chasing after high profile well known players that even my cat knows about. That isn't scouting it is phoning in a performance in terms of identifying players. We have done well because our lads, for the most part, are playing at the top of their game. In contrast our recruitment department have been doing okay.

In the last two windows the performance of our recruitment team has taken a visible nose dive and their contribution has been very poor in my opinion. And that is after increased investment and a shake up.

The transfer market is tough, I get it, but that simply means they have to put in a top of their game performance to make a difference. That involves finding quality players at bargain prices who aren't lighting up the radar screens of other clubs with their well known names.

Critique the players I've suggested, put forward some alternative names, but don't just pop up a post to rip the **** because I included players in my pick list that you haven't heard of.

Since Bogle was linked with us I've watched him several times on tv and he never seems to have a good game. He "appears" no better than what we have.
