Gibson
Ex captain and made the England squad in his early 20's. Joint record signing.
Should he be given a chance now?
I would personally give him a run of games for Ben Mee.

Re: Gibson
It's weird how he's not been given a chance,i can understand Kev Long is happy enough to be a squad player, but Gibson surely left Boro to further his career, not to warm the bench every week.

Re: Gibson
I think we all know that Gibson's only chance is if Mee suffered a knock and missed a game.

Was thinking the same this time last year...randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2019 1:00 pmIf he cant dislodge Mee after his recent performances he never will
Re: Gibson
I think Mee needs the captaincy removing, he was the same last year before Heaton returned to retake the captaincy. It's like the burden of the position has an effect on his game. But I also feel for Gibbson and of the cameos he has had he seems quite good and offered a different dimension in passing, a little like Keane was.

He probably doesn't smile enough in training and is sat with Vydra in the naughty corner.

Mee wasn’t all that clever at the start of last season. Kept his place.randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2019 1:00 pmIf he cant dislodge Mee after his recent performances he never will
Ben Gibson was brought here as a first teamer, I’m absolutely convinced of that. No way on this planet have BFC paid double figure millions for a squad player/bench warmer. Not a chance in hell.
Re: Gibson
Takes a brave man to drop the club captain, given Mr Dyche doesn't like dropping people, I cant see this happening to be honest.

Wasn't he brought in to prepare for Mee's imminent departure which didn't happen?

Re: Gibson
We need 3 at the back against the top 6. We get Mullered most times with our 4-4-2. They have too much pace and movement for our guys, especially when our CMid is lightweight.

Re: Gibson
Can't say I've ever been that impressed by Gibson when he's played. It's not long ago Mee was being talked up for an England cap- a couple of bad games doesn't make Gibson a better player, surely?

There's still people on here who swear blind Ben Mee was never going anywhere, despite him stalling on signing a new contract all summer.bobinho wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2019 1:24 pmMee wasn’t all that clever at the start of last season. Kept his place.

Re: Gibson
I think Mee should be put on notice, turn up against Newcastle and Bournemouth or Gibson is in vs Everton
Mee has been brilliant for us over the years, he has put his body and head on the line for the club
and has worked hard at improving his game. So he should be given a bit more leeway than most.
But anyone who thinks picking Gibson would have made much difference last Saturday needs to think again.

There can't be many that still believe than, even more so that 2 years on we still haven't spent over that to bring in a first teamer.
You dont make cheap, risky, ageing signings for the squad ( before and after Gibson ) then all of a sudden break your transfer record on player to at best to sit on your bench.
Even more so a young club captain being touted for big things and England caps...
Remember we dont have much money.

Didn't realise that he signed a 4 year deal. So if we aren't willing to give him a chance or let him go he could be stuck here another season yet.

How much competitive football at any level has Gibson played in the last 12 months ?

Re: Gibson
I expect his next game will be Peterborough.
Re: Gibson
Gibson looked a quality prospect at Boro, such much so that he got an England call-up. Get him in.
Re: Gibson
If Taylor isn't fit for saturday I would give Gibson a start at left-back ..

Re: Gibson
11 goals conceded in 11 games against sides outside the traditional “big six”. Five of those against in form Leicester and Sheffield Utd. With 5 clean sheets. It’s not that bad really.
We’ve conceded 18 in the 5 games against the “big sides! Now that IS bad.

You've seen Gibson play?
Re: Gibson
I received his poppy day shirt today.
Re: Gibson
Ben Mee would even be selected by the non Tinkerman Sean if he had a broken leg. Which tells you everything you need to know. Hence Sean will never manage one of the big teams.
Re: Gibson
How many games has he played in that we’ve won and what were his performances like ?
Re: Gibson
It's not really fair judging him when he just gets thrown into the stinking mess of one of our cup performances. He played the full game at home to Istanbul in the Europa league, where we kept a clean sheet against a good outfit.
Re: Gibson
Agree that Mee not signing was a factor in signing Gibson, but can't see Mee being dropped, so unless we go 3 at the back with Taylor and Lowton (or Lennon) as "wing backs" not going to get a game.
Saying that:
Pope
Lowton (Lennon) Tarks Mee Gibson Taylor (or Brady who has previous at LB if Taylor injured)
3 from Westwood, Hendrick Cork, McNeil, Drinkwater
Wood Barnes
Might be an interesting line up.

Re: Gibson
Both Gison and Vydra were good buys in my opinion. We need as much quality back up as possible. They provide that. But luckily because of no injuries we haven't needed either.
On a personal viewpoint we can all have some sympathy for them both because they play so rarely.
But the club is stronger because we have them .We need them for the rest of the season.

Yep, otherwise it could be worse than 5-0

We paid that to have quality cover for injuries/suspensions. Gob smacking we haven’t had any.bobinho wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2019 1:24 pmMee wasn’t all that clever at the start of last season. Kept his place.

Re: Gibson
If Mee ever gets replaced who will be captain?
If he wasn't captain Gibson would have a much better chance right now.
Mee may be a good last ditch defender but he makes too many mistakes considering he is more of a no nonsense kind of centre half... If you are going to make mistakes at least bring something else to the team with the ball.. I feel Mee knows his weakness and is trying too hard to play more expansively for the modem game.
With Gibson in the team we'd have someone who feels far more natural playing out from the back. That should really help us take the game to teams when we expect a result.
I feel the change more likely to happen though will be Drinkwater. To shake things up with two changes rather than one will likely turn against us but I really would like to see Gibson given a proper chance.

We have had injuries, it's the reason Hendrick played in the number 10 role t'other week...Holtyclaret wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2019 9:53 pmWe paid that to have quality cover for injuries/suspensions. Gob smacking we haven’t had any.
Mr Dyche doesn't like or want to play Vydra for some reason, why do you think J-Rod was brought in for the 3rd forward slot and not a youngster brought in and Vydra used as number 3.
He was wanting to be moved on in the summer, it just all got a bit messy and we ended up stuck with him.

“Righto Ben, you will be my second choice cover for either of the two centre halves, so if they don’t get injured or suspended, it’ll be the easiest 4 years of your life, sign there.”
Mate, seriously, we don’t pay that for first teamers, let alone bench warmers. Mee was off, or at least there was a bit of a worry he wouldn’t sign.
