Doubt it. We’ve had Boris’s mate Jake “Northern Powerhouse” Berry here in the valley since 2010 and I can assure you none of that money has found its way here. I think anyone who believes that it will start now is deluded.

I challenged my sister in law that in stead of saying on Facebook that she would be willing to pay more tax under Corbyn that she should now set up a Direct Debit to a local charity.

Re: Burnley on " Sky " News ...
Rossendale council is under Labour control. Also, its had plenty of money, but as usual with the labour lot, it's been squandered.
For example, the 4 million pounds wasted on the empty homes scheme.
3.5 million pounds on a new bus station, which opened at around the same time it was announced they would be axing half of the bus services, in and out of rossendale
(Council leader Alyson Barnes, Labour, did quite nicely out of that one. Her husbands company won the bid for all of the architectural work, which got rejected 3 times because the designs were so outlandish)
Labour councillor Alyson Barnes recently had to abandon borrowing 9.5 million pounds to build a spa (google spinning point) too due to public outcry.
No doubt the same company who designed the bus station would be designing that too

What a complete crock of shite. Time will tell, but I’ll take your apology now. The conservatives couldn’t give a flying **** for the working man, unless it’s from a taxation point of view. They have now been handed such a huge majority that they will now do whatever makes, them, the most money.
Remember, food banks are fashionable.

Sadly we live in a area blighted by drugs, lack of highly paid jobs and not enough people willing to work.Steve-Harpers-perm wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2019 9:36 pmNo one should be needing to volunteer for a food bank in the worlds 5th richest nation in 2019.
Course theres always specialist cases, but I bet 95%+ of cases are caused by poor personal life choices.
The domino effect of that then puts pressure on several other services too.
It's scary to even try and calculate what 1 drug addict could cost the tax payer per year. That's money constantly coming out of the pot, whether that's for medication to help them rid the drugs, support workers, drop in centres, benefit, cost of crime, rehabilitation, trips to A&E, stints in prison etc etc

You're correct. The sense of entitlement and getting everything put on a plate (literally) for some in this country, is quite remarkable.Steve-Harpers-perm wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2019 9:36 pmNo one should be needing to volunteer for a food bank in the worlds 5th richest nation in 2019.
I'm not saying that there aren't any genuinely needy people out there, but some people need to help themselves.
A friend of mine who is married and has two kids has just moved back to his own country (Europe), is now earning just £500 a month. There are no food banks there.
I've never (and never will be) been a Tory, but to blame (I'm not saying that you are) just the Tories for the need of food banks is quite ridiculous.

Someone says - the tories don’t care for the working man
You say (aggressively) it’s not true because working men voted for them.
I deduced from your reply that you must think they care because people voted for them.
Hence my softness for you.
Hope that clears it up. Peace and love.
Re: Burnley on " Sky " News ...
Meaning what? The new bus station was paid for by Green Shield stamps was it? Money pours into the now labour heartlands of London and the SE. But our PM has said that money will come into places like the NW. I think it will and I am not deluded. Maybe you are. As it happens Rawtenstall in particular is booming but I have to admit transport links need urgent improvement
I believe it will come and Jake Berry will try hard to make that happen.
Re: Burnley on " Sky " News ...
I agree Rawtenstall is booming at present and that it is now spreading to Bacup which is on the up. We have got to hope that money will flow northwards and the difference between Thatcher and Johnson is that he has MP’s in his party representing some of the poorest areas to put the pressure on him.Stayingup wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2019 10:28 pmMeaning what? Labour were miles ahead in the vote at about 5pm Thursday, then all the conservatives finished work and voted and it was a landslide.
Labour is the party for the benefit scrounges, encouraging the unwashed to stay that way and inventing more ways and scams for you to milk the system while taxing the grafters.
IfLabour is great for dossers, our local labour councillor was even picking up the dossers from their houses and ferrying them to the polling booths to vote. Joke of a party

Brilliantly naive. Those new bars and new businesses have nothing at all to do with the multi million pound regeneration of Rawtenstall or the fact that the UK economy is strong, most people are in work and most people have disposable income.......all of which also has nothing to do with the government of course.Steve-Harpers-perm wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2019 11:21 pmIt’s ‘booming’ in terms of a few new bars but not from any government investment.

Re: Burnley on " Sky " News ...
Anyone who thinks Rawtenstall is booming has not driven through it. Yes there has been investment.... the Boys redevelopment of the market... Private company with family councillor connections, has worked and as someone else said So was the bus station which is a white elephant if there ever was one.
There has been a massive building project but with no thought to traffic which is still basically channelled right through the town centre from all directions on roads (some widened thirty years ago) that were designed for village traffic.
Rossendale council has been one of the damning inditements on Labour for the last thirty years....

There has been huge investment in Rawtenstall. Just because the rods haven’t been altered doesn’t detract from the fact there has been major investment.

Rawtenstall is definitely booming and like others have said the good feeling is spreading East to Bacup. I use the new bus station a couple of times a week and it is certainly not a white elephant, it is the best thing to come to Rawtenstall in years. The town centre investment has definitely kicked started the town regeneration. The Tiger Lounge, LA Turka and Blind tiger would most certainly not have invested in Rawtenstall but for the town centre investment by our Labour controlled council.
The Tories have had their chance in the past to change Rawtenstall but they hadn't the balls to grab the bull by the horns. I say well done to Alyson Barnes who has made things happen
