It’d be cheaper to get Billy Joel to play at half time for 4 seasons....and more entertaining....

How much did they spunk on Almiron. They are good at burning money.

Maybe they just paid 40 million for him because he was Brazilian and just hoped for the best

They must have been impressed by the extraordinary goal scoring record over the past few years.

Thought it was joelgarner. He'd probably been a better option to be honest. He caught one volley well in the second half but yes, he's terrible

Re: Joelinton
A few on the board would cheer from the rafters if we spent 40mil on a Brazilian. Then would be the first to criticise when he turned out to be dross.

Arguably was lucky to stay on the pitch for two near identical booking worthy fouls.

Re: Joelinton
23 year old and only 4 months Prem League experience Id be inclined to wait and see a little.
Strikers are expensive and 16 months ago we spent £11m on a 26 year old 4th choice striker who is often left out the match day squad in favour of a 3rd defender or midfielder and has offered pretty much zilch since he came
If Joelinton develops and improves and just does half decent in the next 18 months no doubt he'll keep his value and maybe increase it.

Re: Joelinton
Agree with that but when you have such an inept ref like Robinson it's hardly surprising.jedi_master wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2019 6:01 pmArguably was lucky to stay on the pitch for two near identical booking worthy fouls.

Re: Joelinton
Anybody else think his challenges on Tarks came from a player who had been advised we didn’t have a CH on the bench?

Re: Joelinton
They were both nothing challenges and the second one he got ball but it squirted away leaving his foot to come down on Tarks foot.
Painful if youre are the receiving end but a booking for the combination of them both was probably just about warranted but no way worth anything more

I think Tarkowski may beg to differ, and to say Joelinton got the ball is laughable.

Re: Joelinton
Not impressed really. You can see the extra quality in some PL teams. They didn’t have anymore than us in their side.

Re: Joelinton
Im sure Gomez didnt think much of Mee's challenge but footballs a contact game and sometimes challenges hurt. As for getting the ball I saw the replay and Joelinton's foot struck the ball before landing on Tarks footJuan Tanamera wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2019 7:31 pmNothing challenges?

Re: Joelinton
He left his foot in on Tarks twice, it was very cynical. Second time he also went down to try and deflect away from what he had done. Then he walloped Pieters on the touchline just before Newcastle had their best chance of the game. He should have gone today, he got away with one.

Re: Joelinton
£40m for the Brazilian Steve Mounie, and it was all too predictable. I cannot for the life of me understand that outlay on a player with such an unspectacular goalscoring record. Wesley at Villa is the same.
Re: Joelinton
I dont think those were intentional.
His poor ball control made his every second touch a tackle.
They were fouls, and both could have been a booking but I dont think they were deliberate

40 million?
So roughly about what we spent on Vydra, Gibson, Walters and Wells (especially when you factor in wages). Not sure who got the worse deal tbh!

What an attacking duo they had today
Not one shot on target says it all.
Malcolm McDonald to Joelinton and Andy Carroll. What a comedown!!!

Re: Joelinton
Didn't Benitez strongly advise Newcastle not to sign him? That's what you get when the manager doesn't buy the players.

Think he's only had 2 relegation's in a 20 year career and is in the top 10 of most Premier League games managed.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2019 9:11 pmJoe Linton he sounds like a Geordie plumber

I think he also has the record of managing more different teams in the PL also than any other manager seconded by Hose Moanrhino or Fat SamDevils_Advocate wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2019 9:22 pmThink he's only had 2 relegation's in a 20 year career and is in the top 10 of most Premier League games managed.

I don't know much about football but it strikes me that if a footballer is going to be any good you will know by the age of 23 and to argue differently and try and justify what I read has been spent on this player is plainly arguing for arguments sake.

Yes. The one immediately after Tarks one went down injured was absolutely scandalous. A pure cowardly attempt to injure another professional.Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2019 7:02 pmAnybody else think his challenges on Tarks came from a player who had been advised we didn’t have a CH on the bench?

As you said yourself previously you can’t be arsed watching Burnley anymore just a shame you don’t have the same attitude to this forum

Wind your neck in, its only been a few days since you last got upset about me and spat your dummy out.
I've missed about 5-10 matches since we've been back in the Premier League but im happy that supporting Burnley doesn't consume my whole life as Ive seen what it does to sad cases like you

Re: Joelinton
I think that Devil’s _Advocate post is a good one and linking it to previous posts that you may disagree with isn’t very sensible. I think there are numerous examples of strikers showing significant improvement after the age of 23. Our own Ash might be an example.

He's been signed on a six year deal according to Wiki.
Re: Joelinton
That would depend on whether he was worth 40 million or not. Gabriel Jesus cost Man City 28 million. Liverpool paid 9 million for Coutinho. Would that be OK?CombatClaret wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2019 6:01 pmA few on the board would cheer from the rafters if we spent 40mil on a Brazilian. Why do people assume that anyone who suggests that we spend some money wants it spent on somebody sh!t?

Re: Joelinton
That's not the assumption. The point is that spending big sums of money doesn't guarantee you've got a decent player.
Of course, the opposite applies too. Lesser fees does not necessarily equate to "better value".
It's ultimately a subjective verdict which is why it causes such ongoing debates and disagreements.
