Re: O/T Total knee replacement
My advice. Follow to the letter the surgeons advice along with the Physio's advice. Stick to the excercises you are given, there's no harm doing them several times in the day, the main thing is to ensure in between them you get plenty of rest. I did a lot of quad excercises given to me by the surgeon weeks before the operation, I also lost a few pounds, I'm convinced it helped.

Re: O/T Total knee replacement
I had a total knee replacement 9 1/2 years ago, I had a few complications due to the amount of previous knee surgery and the scar tissue left behind from the number of invasive treatments I'd had. I had mine done in Wrightington, I was fully awake during the operation and just turned the volume up on the iPod at the relevant moments of drilling and banging . Straight from surgery into recovery, brew and butty and back to the ward. Mobilised over the following days and never looked back. Just do exactly as told by the Surgeon and the Physio's and you'll be absolutely fine. I recently had my nine year MOT on the knee and it is doing fantastic with little wear in the joint at all. All the best, and just go for it and all being well you'll be fine. Happy to offer any other advice you may need too. Andy

Thank you to all for the advice. It's obvious that exercise is the key.

Re: O/T Total knee replacement
my missus had one in september in burnley, absolutely no follow up physio advice. Decent ward staff, but after care advice, nothing. left to her own devices sadly. **** poor.
Re: O/T Total knee replacement
My Dad had both done and it changed his life. As others have said, do exactly as your told. I’m waiting for an ACL reconstruction and I’ve been given exercises to do before the op to help with recovery after. Good luck.
Re: O/T Total knee replacement
Re ALP being awake during his operation reminded me of my mate having his ankle being re built. A nurse noticed he kept shutting his eyes and asked if he was in any pain. No, it's because I can see the surgeon cutting through my bones with his saw, so I shut my eyes and then look to see if he's finished. They'd forgot to put a screen across to sheild his view of the operation. Ouch.
