Huge win but

Post by cricketfieldclarets » Sat Dec 21, 2019 4:55 pm

That was bloody dreadful. One shot between us all game.

Wins a win especially in a six pointer but we definitely need some pace, skill and creativity especially out wide.

Can we just cut and paste all the Newcastle comments so we don't have to go through all this again...

Given we now have 24 points from 18 games, and third from bottom only have 15 from 18, it's looking likely that less than 38 will be enough to stay up. 35-36 could do it meaning just 4 more wins from out remaining 20 games.

I hope this can now instill a bit more confidence and looser purse strings next month.

Poor game. It could be worse. We could be at home with zero shots on goal and points.

No pleasing some people. Great result, played some good football in the first half, a little under the cosh second half, not helped by the weather. Bournemouth didn’t look anything special either, they suffered because of the conditions too

Indeed. And absolutely agree thats the most important thing. But theres little wonder attendences are dropping and we struggle to attract players who get fans off their feet.

Back-to-back 1-0 wins against very tricky opponents, where between them, they had ZERO shots on target in nearly 190 minutes of football...and all this after we conceded 11 goals in seven days....yeah I’ll take that!

Two wins, 6 points in two games after a dismal three previous results. Give the guys some credit, and Bournemouth won away at Chelsea a week ago

Super Jay's header looked like he wanted it more than their defenders. Just like his massive goal at Villa where he got in where it hurts. Well done the team and well taken Jay

Dreadful game......but we won!
The one time Pope rolled it out we ended up scoring, i don't understand why we don't mix this in more...he's not the best kicker of the ball.
Horrible conditions & would have been a bad one to lose going into xmas...happy enough. COYC.

I'd love to see Jay get given a proper run in the team up there with Wood. We're so predictable with Barnes and Wood and it forces us to lump it long constantly.

I’ve been out all day so turned it on to catch the last 10 minutes. Obviously didn’t miss anything. The conditions were shocking. It was noticeable that even when Bournemouth had 6 minutes to get an equaliser they failed to mount a single attack. The conditions looked almost impossible to play.

You’ve your hardcore 2-3k that are happy as long as it’s 3 points, absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Myself I used to laugh at other supporters giving us grief about our negative style, but recently I’ve found myself agreeing. It is what it is though

Ugly weather, ugly football and an ugly goal to decide it.

Coming away with three very attractive points seems criminal, but they are very welcome.

Huge win but.............nothing. Another clean sheet, joint top clean sheets with ...............Leicester.
We're working to our strengths and refusing to give anything away. Let the free-flowing football and panache materialise when we're safe. Until then, we continue to realise our limitations and frustrate the **** out of these so-called adventurous teams.

The performance and any dissection of it is secondary to the importance of the result. We'll spend Christmas in the top half, above arsenal and realistically knowing that 4 more wins (perhaps less) will all but guarantee another year in this league.

But, with a bit if a free hit at Everton on boxing day I'd like to see us take the opportunity the try something a bit different on the road in order to improve our ball retention. Perhaps one up front, with Lennon, McNeil and either Brady or Rodriguez behind a single striker, in something more like the 451 shape that brought our best and most constructive form on the road 2 years ago.

We're getting results, but we've got the players to keep the ball better and we should never be shy of improving as a team.

Conditions were awful...that is the only “but”
Backs to the wall ? What ?
They had 3 attempts and none on target. We were the better team in the first half and them in the second half.

I’m not saying by any means that we are Barcelona but the way the media often talk you would think Bournemouth are. As much as they like to exaggerate our style they do the same with Bournemouth. This is the same Bournemouth who have the second lowest number of goals in the division and have scored more set pieces than any other team in the league....the same Bournemouth who had a £20m forward who can’t hit a barn door on the bench and another forward on the bench who is on £100k a week.

Great result - and no buts

We’ve had loads of wins like Newcastle and Bournemouth - they’re our bread and butter at this level.

Dyche might need a rethink of how he sets his stall out against the top six, but by and large he has the bottom half of this league licked - and they’re the games that will keep us up year after year so long as he’s our manager.

Great win.

Great point Villa remind me of Fulham last season, play an open game but ship goals for fun, normally that strategy leads to relegation.

I'd have bitten your hand off for 2 gritty 1-0 wins prior to the Newcastle and Bournemouth fixtures, and that's what we've delivered.

Playing ugly is fine if you win. I hated the tactics v Man City but if it is a thrashing against the likes of them and Chelsea but we grind out lots of narrow wins against the teams in and around us I would take it because it will keep us up. If you don’t beat the teams in the lower reaches that you are actually in competition with that’s when you are in trouble. We are never going to play free flowing football like the top teams without monumental investment.

Sounds an awful game. Thank God I didn't watch it. Even Dyche admitted we were awful which he hardly ever does. Must have been terrible. Very satisfying being warm and cosy at home with the score changing to 1- 0 in the last minute and getting the three points with s game like that. Might try it more often as we are horrible to watch at the moment! 3 points and I can live with it though especially when I don't watch it. Nice early Christmas present.
