We are playing better then we think.
Our 8 defeats this season have been to 8 of the top ten. We are more consistent than most realise. We will not lose today and if we play to our usual high standards we will win.

We'll likely finish 10-15th this season,so another season confirmed at the top table,i agree the one major downside of Sean's tenure has been our dire cup record, maybe a new decade will bring about a change of fortunes in KO football, there's no obvious reason why we can't at least get through the early rounds of the FA cup.

I think our problem with cups is that Dyche doesn’t like to change the side week in week out, so when our second string play in the cup they’re all rusty

At 2-36pm that was a really great, confident 'shout'.With, now, 7 wins under our belt, scoring 14 with 0 against and joint top (I think) for clean sheets, we must be becoming the side which 'the rest' see as the potential 'banana skin'. As for the cups,it is not just us; most clubs see either staying at or moving up a level as the priority. The FA cup used to be the ultimate domestic prize (just look at the attendances of yesteryear) but that 'ship' has long since sailed, however sad that may be.Darnhill Claret wrote: ↑Sat Dec 21, 2019 2:36 pmOur 8 defeats this season have been to 8 of the top ten. No it doesn't but surely lightning can't strike 3 times running, all we can do is get through the Peterborough tie,and see what the draw throws up.

Nobody was surprised at losing to Tottenham and Spurs, I think it was more the manner in which we lost that most people had a gripe with.

Re: We are playing better then we think.
League Cup has been horrendous but in four of the last five years in the FA Cup we’ve been beaten away by Spurs, Arsenal & Man City twice. So the Lincoln game is the only FA Cup tie we’ve lost when you would not have expected it.claret2018 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 21, 2019 6:19 pmI think our problem with cups is that Dyche doesn’t like to change the side week in week out, so when our second string play in the cup they’re all rusty
But that doesn’t mean we will beat Peterborough of course.

Re: We are playing better then we think.
Just to expand on the point made by the OP - our record against the teams currently above us with United still to play is W-1 D-1 L-6. We have played every team below us with a record of W-6 D-2 L-2
The highest placed team we've beaten is Newcastle (9th - one more point than us) the lowest placed team we've lost to is Palace (12th - one less point than us).
All things remaining reasonably equal, you could -with a degree of certainty - predict our finishing position will be between 8th and 12th.

Re: We are playing better then we think.
Back in the day those that couldn't but we're physical were ideally suited to the game. The modern game has changed and for some players it is definitely better if they do at least try and think.
May be I am over thinking this.

You certainly underthought the post.

Re: We are playing better then we think.
Love the confidence there bud with the 'all we have to do' bit. Have you seen where Peterborough are just now? With our record and Sean's likely 'reserve' team I'm guessing a third round exit. Hope I'm wrong but experience tells me that we aren't in for an easy ride.

Re: We are playing better then we think.
I’m pretty sure the only time we were safe when we had a cup match was away at City in the FA Cup two seasons ago and Dyche played a full “first choice” side.
So if we pick up a few more points before Peterborough we might go for it knowing that we’ve survived again.

Re: We are playing better then we think.
I don't know about playing 'better' than we think. How well or badly do we think we play? I think we play very 'effectively' most of the time and that is why we are where we are, but as for playing 'well', I think we do that very rarely.
