Drinkwater

Post by warksclaret » Thu Dec 26, 2019 6:26 pm

Feel sorry for this guy. I know he was irresponsible by getting in a brawl in a nightclub, but he got himself fit, started v Man City, got subbed (which was the right decision). But against Spurs we were being over run and he did not get a look in. Today Cork comes off and Kevin Long comes on . WTF

If I was him there is no way I would want to stay in January with this club. Why even have him on the bench. With Hendrick not committing his future its disappointing we have not put DD to the test to see what he can provide us. Reminds me of the Chalobah loan-we rarely played him then he got himself in the England squad after leaving us

No need to feel sorry for the guy. Did not bring us anything and better he goes a.s.a.p.

You feel sorry for him? The guy has no class and is quite clearly not that bothered about playing football. He doesn't give a toss about whether he plays for us or not.

He was a “brilliant” signing, the cognoscenti on here said so at the time.
However it didn’t take a great deal of foresight to suggest here was another player that would continue on a downwards career trajectory. Get rid in January, please.
That said, utterly pointless signing a replacement loan (particularly if they’re young) as they will just sit on the bench a la Chalobah and Bamford.

Think today showed his future is not here, the same happened at Spurs away with him being left unused in an appalling display where we couldnt pass the ball.

As long as he doesnt go Sheff Utd and look a world beater, that would see a few posters on here off.

I am not sad if he goes-just thinking of what he has cost us and the chances he has been given. Its a bit like buying your son lots of Christmas presents then in March you realise he has not opened the really expensive one

The team went to Dublin after the palace game for a night out. My friend bumped into them all in a bar and said they were all really sound - except Drinkwater who he said was a t-wat !

I've heard similar from someonr who went to a wedding and Drinkwater was also a guest.

But a footballer being a tw@ isnt an uncommon thing.

Can see him going back to London and teaming up with Pearson at Watford-the guy who signed him from Man U. I think there is a really good player in him-saw him play a number of times at Leicester

Listen-I hated Joey Barton with a vengeance (as do many fans). However he WAS given a chance and we unearthed a real talent. Robbie SDavage was a COCK but you never liked playing against him in his prime

We will never know with DD

Barton and Savage were very dedicated to their profession both played at the top level well into their thirties. Drinkwater looks to be the polar opposite.

He was given a chance vs Man City where he had the lowest pass completion rate on the pitch except for Wood and looked dead on his feet by half time.

He also said Dwight was very drunk.

I never suggested you were lying, it was more about who told you.

Dwight looked a bit drunk on one of the photos so very believable. Getting on with players only gets you so far though. Bring in a Maradona and you get on with him whether you like it or not.

File DD under the calcuated gamble that didn't work out,and thank our lucky stars he was only a short-term loan, and we'll get his wages off the books soon.

That said we'll need at least one midfielder in this window, unless we're going to take a chance on Cork & Westwood playing every game for the remainder of the season, that'll be a hell of a risk, and Hendrick isn't the answer, plus he'll be off soon by the looks of things.

Took my lad to the young clarets party where players were signing stuff. Drinkwater wasn't there which I thought spoke volumes given the little he has contributed so far.

We need to retain him and bin Cork, yet another poor display, knocked off the ball continuously, played sideways, never challenged the lines and whose super skill is to spin on the spot.

As I said my mate has no reason to make it up. He’s not even a big football fan.
Neither am I saying it means anything in relation to his football ability but it may well say something about him as a person and his state of mind at Burnley.
Whatever way you look at the situation it’s a hell of a long time since he was happy on a football pitch. I saw him play for the u23s and he did not stand out at all in that game. Something not quite there for me - and it’s more than just his fitness.
I’m not in the “told you so” brigade either - I actually thought it was a good signing but in hindsight given the last couple of years of his career and personal life there was probably much more of a chance of him being a flop than there was of recapturing his Leicester form.

Not sure I can feel sorry for someone who has earned more than the average man’s lifetime salary in the 4 months he has been here whilst playing less than 3 hours of football....

Perhaps Drinkwater relied quite heavily on being paired with N'Golo Kantė in central midfield. Perhaps he's actually not all that. We need to move him on and bring another 2x midfielders in - one to replace DD and one to replace Defour.

I don't disagree but i'll be :o if we recruit 2 midfielders in this window, you could argue we've never replaced Barton/Marney when they left, and as a consequence we're lightweight in this area, and are often outmuscled by the opponents.

Ideally we'd get a ball-playing CM in the mould of Defour, and an athletic ball winner, but i wouldn't raise your hopes too much.

We got scammed big time by Chelsea. When he did eventually play he was so unfit it was an embarrassment. Hence why he has not played since and will be returning to them a much fitter player than when he left. Can’t comment on how much we have paid him as I am not privy to the information. Maybe CT will know the deal but I doubt it. There are good players who can do a job for us. The likes of Hughes Mooy and Maddison were all available. We need to replace DD but not with another elastoplast. Let’s invest and buy a proper player who can help grow the club.

I'd argue we'd be better off with 2x ball-playing midfielders. We already have athletes in Cork and Westwood. We need to be better at retaining possession and creating opportunities rather than breaking play up.

He was never given a real chance, so a complete waste of time. If somebody wants to tell me how Cork is a better player than Drinkwater, I’m all ears....

Why are we slagging off Drinkwater for not contributing when he hasn’t been given a chance to do so? Dyche should’ve got him fit and on the pitch, then we can rate him.

He's hardly been fit mainly due to his own misdemeanours. He was fit in September (when he played v Sunderland) and I would have thought he would have got a run in the team when Cork was out injured just after that.... but then got injured again in the nightclub incident. He only has himself to blame.

Also, I reckon N'Golo Kante would make me look a half decent player too....

Time to ship out. If he can’t get on in a game like today there’s no hope for him here.i was dubious about this signing and it’s turned out to be a complete waste of money. I’d prefer we ship lightweight Cork out too and use both wages on one decent commanding midfielder who can pass forward and control the ball ( as well as being fit of course).

Nobody knows what happens in training and behind closed doors but if Drinkwater is not pulling his weight then Sean Dyche will not play him obviously. Posters on here have no idea what goes on week by week at Turf Moor but our manager does
Simple really

His career did not begin at the start of the season that Leicester won the Premier League. From what I can gather, he had one good season.....a bit like Wes Morgan. I won't be disappointed when he leaves.

you clearly know nothing
"On 20 January 2012, Drinkwater joined Leicester City from Manchester United for an undisclosed fee.[18]

After being named Championship Player of the Month for December 2013,[19] he was also one of three players who received a nomination for the Championship Player of the Year Award.[20] Drinkwater had his most successful year as a professional, scoring seven goals and being named to the PFA Championship Team of the Year alongside teammates Kasper Schmeichel and Wes Morgan,[21] as Leicester were promoted to the Premier League after winning the Championship.[22] On 17 June 2014, Drinkwater signed a new four-year deal with Leicester after helping the Foxes win promotion to the Premier League for the first time in ten years.[23]

Drinkwater played consistently as the Foxes won the Premier League title in 2015–16, alongside his midfield partners N'Golo Kanté, Marc Albrighton and Riyad Mahrez.[24][25] He scored his first top-flight goal on 23 January 2016, to open a 3–0 win over Stoke City at the King Power Stadium.

so that's at least 4 seasons

Agree 100% if we have to push the boat out for a top quality midfielder to compliment Westwood so be it,this area has been neglected for far too long, and if we're not careful it'll come back to bite us in the backside big time.

Nobody knows what happens in training and behind closed doors but if Drinkwater is not pulling his weight then Sean Dyche will not play him obviously. Posters on here have no idea what goes on week by week at Turf Moor but our manager does
Simple really
Well if he not pulling his weight then he should be disciplined; although, when one thinks of the 'slack' he has already been given, then 'not pulling his weight' is a mere bagatelle.

Probably been told by Chelsea not to play him as a transfer somewhere else has already been agreed.

Remember all those who were glad we got rid of Defour.
Admittedly he suffered a lot of injuries, but just compare the football we played with him to the football we are seeing at present (even with Westwood who has improved massively and our new talent McNeill).
As said above, we have not replaced a player of the ilk of Defour and Drinkwater is not even in his league

Lots of speculation just not backed up by anything.

What we do know is that he was injured for a long time, has been fully fit for about 6 weeks - in which time hes played once and not justified usurping the well-performing first choice duo of Westwood and Cork.

I suspect it's as simple as that. The conspiracy theories are best avoided.

He should have gone back after the night club incident,he's been a bigger waste of space than Vydra & Wells put together.
