Re: Nick Pope
His catching today was very good. He was calm under pressure with crosses.
His kicking was bloody dreadful though. At least four times put us under needless pressure.
Clean sheet away though is no mean feat in this league.

He’s a wonderful keeper and he’s in the middle of our goal.

Re: Nick Pope
Definitely room for improvement in Pope's distribution,it's a major part of the game now,and if he wants to cement an England place he'll have to improve.

Re: Nick Pope
Could do nothing with the goal. Apart from a slip when kicking he was faultless today. A number of saves and catching crosses. Another very good game from Englands number 1.
Re: Nick Pope
As well as the rest of your comment, he saved a certain goal with his foot, which ricocheted off Bardsley for a corner.Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Sat Dec 21, 2019 5:16 pmMoM for me. Strange as he didn’t have a shot to save but took so much pressure of us.

Re: Nick Pope
He's a cool customer. If he comes for the ball, he gets it.
Re: Nick Pope
Kicking was let down by playing in carpet slippers in the first half. However, he is one of few keepers who are able to launch it long with either foot. He therefore rarely gets caught out dallying on the ball when it is on his wrong foot.

Didn’t have a shot to save ?? Apart from the 1st half almost point black “ Heaton-esque” worldie and another great leg save , though he did indeed come for everything inc a very brave late save/interceptionTricky Trevor wrote: ↑Sat Dec 21, 2019 5:16 pmMoM for me. Apart from the one he kicked at calvert lewin that luckily ricoched away from danger.

Why do you bother going when it seems to upset you so much?cricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Thu Dec 26, 2019 7:24 pmApart from the one he kicked at calvert lewin that luckily ricoched away from danger.
Find another hobby for when Burnley are playing, or would that mean not being able to come on this forum attention seeking?
Re: Nick Pope
I think his kicking is definitely something he has worked on. Previous seasons there would have been at least 5 straight out of play per game...

Re: Nick Pope
Big Nick Pope fan! Great save, positioning and great handling. Kicking however was awful as usual. No clue why he comes to take long free kicks. It's so important when we play the way we do away from home that we at least have a keeper who can pick out a centre forward with a long kick.
Pickford may not be the better keeper overall but he sure knows how to pick out a man with a long kick better than Pope. Every time Pope launched the ball forward our centre forwards had to run 20 yard to even get a chance of winning the ball... And that's if the ball wasn't going out of play. Meanwhile Pickford was pinning his long kicks to their centre forward almost inch perfect and made life so easy for him.
You know it's bad when you play with two good forwards in the air and you can't pick out either when the opposition keeper is picking out a single forward almost every time.
Can we have Steve Davis back to take goal kicks please?

Most people go on because it has the potential to make you feel that way. Good or bad, that's the whole point

Re: Nick Pope
Popes kicking has improved 100%. Yesterdays performance was pritty much flawless. Pope will go on to be the future England No 1, he is an amazingly talented goali.
Everton battered us first half and but for Pope and poor finishing we would have been 4 or 5 down

Re: Nick Pope
I think he's basically safe hands. If he goes for something he pretty much always gets it. Fire a shot at him at 100mph and he'll catch it like it's nothing.
It's what you want in goal. No flapping, no doubt, no messing.

Re: Nick Pope
Although I was heartbroken to lose Heaton, it was the right thing to do. Pope is world class and on the up, and is tied to a long term contract that gives the club most of the cards. I expect Pope will leave us for an eye watering amount of money eventually.

Re: Nick Pope
Pope, Wood and McNeil have all signed longer contracts. Not sure it's always a given that just because it's Burnley they are going to move on anytime soon.elwaclaret wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2019 3:26 pmAlthough I was heartbroken to lose Heaton, it was the right thing to do. Most players move on from every club eventually, but he is one player I love watching because he makes things look so simple.

Reminds me of Alan Stevenson for his ability to make it look easy, and almost appearing negligent while doing it. Without doubt up there with names that make the turf shudder still... Blacklaw, Mellor, Stevenson... for me anyway he’s going to be the stuff of legends before he leaves.
Re: Nick Pope
top top GK, am sure the back 4/defense always feel confident with him behind them, however as others point out his kicking, including yesterday was not good, let alone great. Have heard him say before that is something he is trying to improve and I feel once he does he becomes England automatic first name on the teamsheet. Until then he will struggle with others like Pickford being ahead of him.
Re: Nick Pope
He's a good goalkeeper, but since he came back I haven't seen him diving. It's like he is scared to and on his shoulder.
All he does is fall over carefully.

Re: Nick Pope
A fine goalkeeper. Maybe not quite at the standard he set pre-injury, but that will come back in time.
