I'd say they were on a par with us last season, come this season they add a couple of players in Maupay & Mooy and now they look miles in front of us,they play attacking attractive football, why are we unable to do this ?

League table isnt much if anything to do with style or entertainment.

I'd rather finish 15th see winning away with some style on show, the odd home giant killing and a decent cup run whilst enjoying the flair and attacking intent on show, then finish 12th with numerous bore draws, clinging on to 1-0 wins, setting up for a 0-0 against a massively out of for everton and disregarding any possible cup rin, usually culminating in being dumped out against lower league opposition...

But hey, that just might be me.

If safety is the only objective, then 17th-10th makes no difference, let's put on a decent show.
Give me a 3-2 win and a 3-2 defeat any day over a 1-0 win and 1-0 defeat. Least you'll give highs lows and a run for your money than a psin staking 90 minutes with the only excitement was the final whistle.

Brighton fans were calling out for the change in style that Potter has brought them - to be entertained.

They must be loving seeing their side taking on games, and they aren't a top 6 team so aren't going to sign world beaters but have recruited players to suit their manager's philosophy, with inevitably mixed results but their competitiveness against some of the big sides away shows it can work.

Over forty years of following Burnley Seasons where our form didn’t dip around Christmas are the exception. For years it was followed by a grim race to avoid relegation from one league or another. In recent years we’ve ended the season on the up, hence the added frustration that the dip continues. Our football improves as the pressure for points eases, that itself represents progress.

Literally every team in the Prem play better football than us. And I'd say at least 3 or 4 in the Championship play better football than us.

I agree with what you say, but we've shown in games earlier this season, that we can play passing football. We've just stopped doing it. Why, I haven't got a clue.

They and Newcastle were the two really negative teams in the league last season. That’s what cost Hughton his job.

I thought only offside if it was a goal scoring part of body.

Has it changed this year coz that looked to me to be his arm that was forward and nothing else?

I’d say that last finished a league season above us in 12/13.

We have finished above them for 6 consecutive seasons and counting.....so they have not been on a par with us. More like the set of bogeys they are tbh

Var decision was correct based on current laws. Obviously the law needs changing. In my opinion offside decisions should be made based on the position of the players feet. Not his arm or his arse just his foot. That at least would clarify it a bit. They still have to resolve how to measure exactly when the ball is played by the previous player

Looked to be arm to me, that was the obvious view. They will have come up with something else.

Brighton look a decent side against a poor Bournemouth side who look disinterested. Writing is on the wall for Eddie, is luck is finally running out and relegation looks a possibility if they don't pick up some form.

Brighton I’d say are more comparable to us in 16/17. They’re really not that good, but they’re picking up results where they need to, and they’re benefiting from a bit of real class in the middle of the park in the form of Mooy ((Defour)).

Their recruitment programme has wasted a hell of a lot of money, mind.

Just adding to the Mooy posts. He does look a better player this season but isn't that down to having much better players around him. I was keen for us to sign him last season but I'd like to think we would go for a similar style of player with more pace.

Perhaps he went to Brighton because Matt Ryan tapped him up. They are the only two Aussies in the Premier League.

Our passing

Post by Tricky Trevor » Sat Dec 28, 2019 2:43 pm

Vino Blanco posted this in the Brighton thread but I thought it was worth it’s own thread.

——————————————————————————————————————————————————

I’ve commented several times on our passing and it warrants re-iterating.
Our problem is the pace of our passes. Other sides ping it about we stroke it. By the time the pass arrives our receiving player is already closed down and under pressure. He then plays a hurried pass that goes astray and he gets it in the neck. We have shown at rare times that we can knock it about with pace and we always look better for it in them spells.
This isn’t something that can’t be sorted out but it starts at Barnfield.

As youngsters we were taught to be checking around all the time so you knew what you would do before the ball arrived. If you didn’t have the ball get in space to receive it. Come off your defender to receive the ball, if he comes with you you have created space behind. These guys are £1m a season players and know all this so why can’t they do it?

Youd think our location would have put us in the driving seat should we have wanted him, and I'd like to think we could have

A. Bettered Huddersfields wages
B. Equalled any fee Brighton paid/tempted Huddersfield with a permanent sale/swap

A big problem is we don't have many players who like receiving the ball, especially in tight spaces.

Technical ability is what we lack. And there is certainly a valid argument that with the time SD has been here, he should really have brought in more technical players. There are Championship clubs who pass and control the ball better than us.
