Watkins is an instinct player who I think would surprise a lot of Prem sides. He runs well with the ball and isn't a target man, but someone who can run off the target man.JohnDearyMe wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2019 5:06 pmDon't really know anything about him or Brownhill at Bristol. Without trying to be too negative, if he is used to playing attacking football, Burnley might not be a good fit.JohnDearyMe wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2019 5:06 pmBrentford generally seem to play some good attacking football
Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS Jan 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Firstly you admit yourself that these names could be down to journalists digging up old transfer rumours - which as you know could have been completely made up in the first place like the vast majority of them are.Long Time Lurker wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2019 5:00 pm
I think a lot of these names could be down to various media sources looking at who we have been linked to previously and re-packaging them as new content. Part of me wants to believe that, because if it isn't true then it means we are going to spend the next window chasing after transfer targets our recruitment team identified before the arrival of Rigg.
If his response to our poor Summer window ( when he was given eight months to plan, so he could pull out all the stops to impress us ) is to flick through the filing cabinet and loot the work that was done by others then what are we paying him for?
And then you have a pop at Rigg by accusing him of “looting” the work of others and questioning what we are paying him for ?
You are literally making stuff up.
Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS Jan 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Or speculating....
I'm sure Rigg is doing fantastic work in the background, but it doesn't appear he has improved our on-field recruitment, unless his contribution has actually stopped us spending and not improving our starting XI, which could be a factor.

Hey! Don't post if you have no link. DO. NOT. POST.
Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS Jan 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Not speculating really - he’s claiming all he his doing is going for players based on other people’s work and then questioning what we are paying him for. That is making stuff up.
I ain’t enamoured about our recent transfer dealings either but I don’t see the point of making things up about an area of the club that I (or he) knows nothing about.
None of us have any idea about how we go about our transfer dealings but it is not make much sense that Garlick or Dyche would be happy to pay Rigg what I expect is a very decent salary for doing nothing. And I’m not saying he is doing a good job - for whatever reason our last few windows have been poor - and I don’t know whether he is to blame or not....personally I doubt it as I suspect that it’s Garlick who is the issue here in the way we negotiate our transfers and the financial constraints he puts on our deals. And yes that is speculating ! But it is based on the fact that the “buck stops” with Garlick and we are poor at getting deals over the line.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS Jan 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
This
In the last window we signed Jay, who we tried to sign previously.
We also signed Pieters, who Stoke wanted to shift off their wage bill. At the time we were talking to them about Ward.
We were also rumoured to be looking at Phillips and we signed BPF from Leeds. By all accounts BPF didn't do his playing chances any favours at Leeds, they wanted rid of him and they had already brought in a replacement.
So we ended up signed a player we were previously looking at and two players that clubs who we were talking to wanted rid of. These three signings came after we had been linked to some very unrealisitc targets ( which may or may not have been actual targets ).
On the basis of our recruitment reaching an all time low in the last window ( in respect to recent years ) I think it is okay to speculate about the value of our new Technical Director when the rumour mill is throwing up targets of past interest.
There was a time when it seemed like we waited to do our main business in the Winter window, because it gave us a much better idea of the league we would be playing in next season and what our income would be. It is only in the last couple of Winter windows that it has assumed the moniker of being supremely difficult. I think it is slightly tougher in a couple of respects and it has different opportunities that can only be identified by better scouting / recruitment teams.
However, the upshot is that if a recruitment team can't perform in the Summer window expecting them to perform in the Winter window is very unrealistic. That isn't a reflection on the insurmountable difficulty of the Winter market and the absence of opportunities it is a reflection on the ability of a recruitment team and the impact of their leadership figure.
Personally, I don't think we will end up doing much of anything in the next window. I think we will possibly sell some players and give Rigg another 8 months to try and make a positive impression next Summer. Naturally, that will also involve making excuses about the Winter window being very tough - even though we have previously done a lot of very good business in the Winter window.

Have you ever thought that it might be Dyche who is giving him a list of targets which includes players he has expressed an interest about previously ? Is that so unusual ?
Do you seriously think all he does is look in a filing cabinet at someone else’s work and go after these players again ? As that is what you originally intimidated - even though you admit now he went for players like Philips and Pieters that we have never been linked with before.

I'm sure I have read previously that one of the responsibilities of the Technical Director was to grow our overseas recruitment, but not only that, I'm sure the TD should be obtaining all the statistical information to present targets to SD and MG from the EFL too.TVC15 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2019 6:33 pmHave you ever thought that it might be Dyche who is giving him a list of targets which includes players he has expressed an interest about previously ? It seemed there was a lack of imagination in signings before MR came in to the club, with transfer targets often long standing with us missing out on them window after window (Driver / Dawson / Lansbury etc.). This does not seem to have improved in the time he was been with us.

Leicester Mercury reporting further interest in James Tarkowski. Quoting the £40 m release clause relates only to North West rival clubs. They are suggesting a £25 m bid could secure.

On what planet would £25 million secure Tarks?!

Ward signed for Stoke before we signed Pieters and in any case we wouldn't have been talking to anyone about Ward because we released him in May so he was a free agent.Long Time Lurker wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2019 6:23 pm

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS Jan 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
He's got wide ranging responsibilities and that includes the academy and its recruitment. Head of recruitment at first team level is Martin Hodge although I suspect he now works for Rigg.Row Z wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2019 7:32 pmI'm sure I have read previously that one of the responsibilities of the Technical Director was to grow our overseas recruitment, but not only that, I'm sure the TD should be obtaining all the statistical information to present targets to SD and MG from the EFL too.

You mention Driver - that was in the Coyle days.
But, remember, Dyche decides who comes in and who doesn't no matter who else might get involved.

Weve too many already
A flying right winger capable of beating opponents for fun and providing goal chances in the mould of Wade Elliot or a tough tackling Scott Brown type yes

The only signing i'd like to see is whoever signs the players for Brentford, they keep finding absolute gems for peanuts.

Perhaps the £25m is a down payment followed by the remaining £40m paid over 12 instalments.
Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS Jan 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Possibly £1.5m via a Scottish transfer to maintain numbers and then utilise Gibson/Long. All part of succession planning whilst maintaining the ranch. All in keeping with the strategy of being able to compete when the club returns to the Championship which is increasingly likely over the next three seasons in pursuing the declared ultra careful strategy.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2019 11:20 pmOh yes, we'd let him go for £25 million wouldn't we. I’ve heard about this £40m clause for Tarky but don’t understand the purpose of it only being for NW clubs
Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS Jan 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
My interpretation would be that he wants to stay in the North West, as he stated when he moved from Brentford to us.
So £40m release clause for North West clubs would allow him to move even if we were holding out for more.

The board know very well (I hope) that if we sell Tarkowski, there is every chance we'll go down. When you think of how much we earn by staying up, the £25 million fee is laughable and just sounds like someone has made up 25 as that's as high as they can count.

I read on here previously a rumour (or potentially just a suggestion) of Mendy from Leicester.
First start yesterday for them this season. Out of contract this summer. Would add some athleticism and bite to our midfield and Rogers has praised his attitude after a good performance coming in from the cold to start for them.

If Moyes believes Joe Allen will solve WHU problems he is delusional
But he does have previous for wasting money on fading stars
£12m for a player who will give you 10mins a game on a good day is insane.
WHU already have Snodgrass to inspire them with his 10mins cameo .
