People have every right to not renew if they wish, doesn't make them any less of a fan. Setting up for a nil nil every week and launching endless long balls to 2 big lumps upfront isn't what football is about for me. Throw in the fact that our sole intention as a club seems to be finishing 17th every year I don't blame anyone for not renewing.
Someone decides not to renew their season ticket, which is their perogitive. They no longer pay that money to the club, no longer go to Turf Moor regularly to support the team. Yet you say it doesnt make them any less of a fan.

How strange!

I suppose you can be a Fan and not go to matches... But you cannot call yourself a Supporter...

Being a "Supporter" is what it says on the Tin... by paying for your ticket you are "SUPPORTING YOUR CLUB"

I’ll be renewing come rain or shine. The football last few weeks hasn’t been great at time but there’s been plenty of positives overall this season. Though the main reasons I’ll renew are:
1) I love football
2) I love burnley
3) I spent my late teens,20s and early 30s playing football myself so I’m making up for lost time and Saturdays always have been and always will be for football
4) if I give it up I’ll never get it back as the wife will take any gap in my devotion as a way of making me do things I don’t want to do... with all attempts to get back in being squashed by ‘well you didn’t go for that season so you don’t HAVE to go today or this season etc... I can hear her saying it as I type
5) I go with my dad. It’s our common bond and that opportunity won’t go on forever

Could semi tell the decline had started last season , and many at this stage were taking about not renewing.

I thought I'd give it until after the January window to fully make up my mind.
The board showed their hand and followed it up in the summer ( which I thought might happen)

So made the decision not to bother renewing even after an upturn in performance and results.

It's a bit of I told you so post, but I wouldn't go back and change my decision, so it was the right thing to do for me.
I'll probably see the next window or 2, before deciding whether to knock it on the head full stop.

Im all for supporting through thin and thinner if I can see a clear plan in place, or people genuinely wanting to move forwards, but as yet I've seen nothing, which back up my own opinions of what is happening at boardroom level.

I will still be renewing my Sportsmania subscription next season but I am seriously considering choosing a different team to watch if the football doesn't improve.

If Leeds come up I'll probably watch their games as though they may struggle Ive no doubt they will still look to play good attacking football like they do now

Me?

Well our group who sat together went from 12 to 8, and another mate and his son we met in the pub before the game for beers have also stopped attending.

So from our 14 that met up/sat together we are down to 8 now, and a couple are currently discussing already that this might be their last season too.

Various reasons but mainly football style, lack of investment, no long term plan visable for club/transfer policy/style of play

Each to their own, and their choice and their reasons are totally understandable, as many others evidently feel the same. ( from on here, social media and pre and post match pub talk )

Great! A bit more flexibility/better options for those of us who will be renewing but maybe looking to change seats....

Bye.

I dare say it's a bit like King Louis in the Jungle Book. "I've reached the top and had to stop, and that's what's bothering me". When a club our size reaches top 12 or so in the country, there isn't a lot of "forwards" to go to.

Style evolves, entertainment, approach to games, young exciting players that you see either whilst or before they go play for England, excellent stadium facilities, great matchday experience, youth system in full flow, a community club connected to the fans with one eye on the future, dare I say it... a cup run or 2.

Theres plenty that could improve.

First on the list should be stop alienating younger fans and parents, and engaging with young fans and their parents, getting them hooked and all for everything Burnley.

If it reduces the number of people attending who moan and groan every time Hendrick gets the ball or we hit it long or we are not demolishing some of the best teams in the world...then I don’t think that the rest of us who have to sit near some of these fans will miss them one bit.
And neither will the club - financially it’s no skin off their nose if we lose a few hundred or even a few thousand fans.

As for whether it makes them less of a fan or supporter. Well yes it does - not just because they are not attending but also because they are by definition less supportive of the team...not renewing is one sign of that, moaning at the team at games or on this forum is another. Of course people are entitled to do that but let’s not pretend they are fans or supporters if they are not actually showing this.

You wouldn’t call someone a fan of Liam Gallagher if they never went to see him, didn’t like his music and spent loads of time on forums or social media criticising him !!

How about trying to win a cup or gradually improving our style of play? At present the Board and Dyche seem happy to plod along doing the bare minimum to survive and keep the money rolling in. Maybe some of us think football should be about more than that?

So just a few you know of personally. Thought you’d been stood on Brunshaw Road with a clipboard before the United game or something when you used the word many.

No, no just the opinion of those in the pub pre and post match and people I sit with or around.

Usually a better cross section of fans than going off what people say on here as gospel.
You get the average fans view away from this message board I find, as a lot of younger fans go on social media, in the pub and on the games rather than watching from afar via here.

Exactly!! And I will show my "support" for my team by renewing as I always do. I fear with the way things look at the moment we may be playing in the Championship, but I will still support my team, and attend every game I can possibly get to.

I've just looked on the official site to see how many tickets sold for the Villa game tomorrow. I was expecting a sell out or thereabouts.

Looks like we could be a couple of thousand short, for a day when hardly anyone will be working. The signs are there.
The signs are there  UTC drama.

It is a 1230 ko on NYD and is on tv, that could have something to do with it.

ST holder and I'm not going due to the kick off time. 1230 is a massive inconvenience to me. I'm not going to sound like those posters who knows 1000s that are not going but my mate ain't going as he wont get home till gone 2am and will be rough and another mate who has had plans made for him.

I can’t believe a 12.30 kick off on tv hasn’t sold out when the vast majority of the crowd will probably be hungover!?

I have heard of plenty of excuses for not going on the turf, but hungover?

I got brought up thinking boxing day and New years football was a big deal.

I can still remember the thousands of clarets at Chesterfield getting their moneys worth from their fancy dress outfits.

I am privileged and proud to watch the Mighty Clarets.
It has only been these last couple of matches that gas been dire.
2 3-0 wins before that The losses saw exceptional sides. When we have a chance, we are as good as the rest.

Well worth the 470 miles return. As long as I can keep it up.

Up the Clarets.

If we survive another year and make it 5 years in the Premier League, wouldn't it be a nice gesture to do something to reward us fans for supporting the team with their success..

It may even retain those who are thinking about giving up if the club offered to do something which thanked fans.

I know there may be a view of we shouldn't need to do this as a club and that is right - we shouldn't but I think it would be well received if there was something done to recognise those fans who choose to renew next year if they have been long standing season ticket holders?

Are you a new follower of Burnley?

Yes Accy might give 1000 local school kids a new shirt
Yes Stoke put on free away transport for games
Yes Leicester gave each fan a free pint on boxing day plus other treats

But we are Burnley, we've started charging the younger fans to walk on the pitch with the players, hold the flag, make them pay for the Christmas party which used to be, and we still have the premium rate phone lines!

I think the club have put recording huge profits year on year before most other things at the club.

It's the reason why so many things at the club are sub standard, you wouldn't think we've been feeding at the top table for so long.

Thank goodness SD can work his magic to 40 points a season, because I fear once he goes the downwards slide will be steeper and faster than it already is

Proper fan alert!

What is wrong with a suggestion that the club could look to provide some small gesture to thank fans for their continued support. Many other clubs do it?

It's not really providing something for free either. It is about looking at rewarding those who have supported the club.

I have been a fan since 2009 and so what?

I was also a fan before then and a season ticket holder....

I know they wont do anything for the fans.

They just expect you to keep going on and paying your money to watch your team.

I wonder if they ever did find some muppet to volunteer on match day to help those lost away fans?

The club has become profit driven, which if you saw some of the benefit of that on a match day, you could be forgiven..

Can relate to that. And imaine not renewing in 2013 snd then the unthinkable happened the second time when Dyche took us up. Missing that. Not to mention 2008 09 when it was the most unthinkable season.

The ones who dont renew will likely be first to moan if and when we need loyalty points again in the near future.

Just live in hope that our style can improve. Weve shown glimpses even this season against Norwich, West Ham, Southampton.

I think its just amplified recently with expensive trips to tottenham and everton (and bournemouth for others) alongside a couple of other poor shows at home. Seems worse than it is I guess...
I believe our style of play only shows glimpses of improvement when our players renege on Dyche instructions and start playing the beautiful flowing passing football they are capable of, most pleasing to the eye and often ends in a goal but Dyche will be furious that they used a midfield for creation rather than simply hoofing it over them hoping it would hit one of our two fellas up top who isn't incapable of trapping a bag of cement and stood in an offside position.

I'll still be renewing though as I can't be arsed stopping the direct debit...and £37 pound a month is about half the price I pay for youngest daughter's phone contract..a drop in my monthly blackhole of outgoings

Not complaining at all about the free ticket offer.

Just genuinely asking the question of whether the club should consider doing something in recognition for 5 years of premier league membership and to se if there is anything they can do to do something nice for the fans like other clubs do.

Apart from providing 5 years of Premier league football at the lowest prices in the division, you mean?

They gave us a flag last year. What more do you want. :D

Apart from providing 5 years of Premier league football at the lowest prices in the division, you mean?

They gave us a flag last year. What more do you want. :D
I got 2 flags :D picked up one of the discarded ones as was walking out

Not complaining at all about the free ticket offer.

Just genuinely asking the question of whether the club should consider doing something in recognition for 5 years of premier league membership and to se if there is anything they can do to do something nice for the fans like other clubs do.
What would you suggest?

My concern going forward is price increases which have been held down since Baldwin replaced Hoos.

Can we expect price increases? I don't think that would go down too well.

No idea to be honest - but I do know that Hoos always increased them and they've not gone up a penny since Baldwin came in.

Isn't the "Early Bird" period usually announced during January?

We have done well with the prices recently. Premier league games (admittedly in name if not quality recently) for less than £20 is good going, but as said, how long for?

Someone decides not to renew their season ticket, which is their perogitive. They no longer pay that money to the club, no longer go to Turf Moor regularly to support the team. Yet you say it doesnt make them any less of a fan.

How strange!
what about the person who goes to one or two games a season because that's all they can get to, would love to be able to afford a season ticket or works at the weekends so can't go - that make them less of a fan also ?

It’s usually January. There has to be a decent period up to cut off at end of March. I’m on direct debit so it will just renew.

Seems to me the ‘support’ for our club from some people is as fickle as the local voting preferences in the general election.

I for one still find it incredible that we have a team actually in the premier league and savour every moment (maybe with the exception of the last game).

So I will be renewing.

Superfans Alert.

So to be a true supporter you have to buy a season ticket?

That really is something to behold.

If we go down I reckon we will lose 6k minimum in season ticket sales, just like in 2010 when we got relegated..

I would have thought something creative like;

- Offering discounts off in the store or offers on the concourse at half time perhaps.
- Maybe a 3-4 free brews over a season.
- Why not include the first 2 cup games in each cup for those that have held a ST for the full period of time of being in the Premier League.

Im not suggesting they should do all of the above or any of the above as its not the cost/value of what they offer to me but just something that shows they appreciate the money we have spent over the years whilst the club is in a good financial position.

I wouldn't be against a similar thing being done for non season ticket holders if they can quantify a level of financial investment in the club over the last 5 years like away game attendance or general attendance which could be gained through their purchase history.

Appreciate that the club/supporters may not feel they have to do this or should do this but given how our owners are not in the same league of these horrible foreign money grabbing owners we all hear about, I thought as a fan, they would appreciate their fans in a way which would make doing something every now and then or putting in place some value to reward those who continue to attend matches would be a great piece of PR for the club.

We may not be always in this fortunate position and if we go down at any point, the profit we have now won't last forever. I appreciate that the ST cost has remained static so that could be seen as a benefit but I think the club would be mad to even think about raising prices at the moment.

No. The point, if there is one, of this argument is that some people believe that the person who pays for a season ticket and goes on to the matches is more of a fan than the person who keeps his money in his pocket and doesn't go to matches. And some thinks it makes no difference, the person watching Jeff Stelling on the telly is just a good a supporter as the one who goes to watch.

Nothing about season tickets. Just a question of whether, say, Dave Burnley could or should be considered a "bigger" fan than someone who used to have a season ticket but doesn't any more.
