Then you must be amazed another club has taken him on bearing in mind his lack of games for Chelsea and Burnley and his "drinking issues" you seem to know a lot about, while paying a lot more than we did.
I am amazed , his drinking issues were hardly a secret

Why would Villa want a midfielder who couldn't even break into the Burnley first team?
Maybe, just maybe they have better coaches who can get more out of him. Would be very embarrassing for our club if he turned in some real performances for Villa.

Almost guaranteed he'll have some good games for them. He probably would have done for us if it weren't for his mistake and Dyche's stubbornness

We'll have to see how he goes. But if he gets game time for Villa and plays well, it's reasonable to ask why he wasn't given the opportunity here beyond his 60 minute cameo.
The undroppable Mee & Cork is your answer and neither are good enough, and for the record I would have kept him.

Whatever happens it's pretty obvious that Lampard doesn't want him at Chelsea.

Coaches better than ours? Who knows. I actually believe our midfield is better than Villa's, which is a one-man show. We created 21 shooting chances against them! DD could well play a few games for Villa, but it doesn't say anything about Burnley FC.

Chelsea have basically given up on him and are willing to ship him out to anyone that will have him. They were willing to pay half his wage to get him off the books in summer. If our coaches are to be embarrassed in the unlikely event that Drinkwater turns out to be a world beater for Villa, after we had had him for 4 months when he turned up unfit and made himself even more unfit part way through, then how much more embarrassed would the Chelsea coaches be that they turned a Championship winner into (relative) dross?

If we are going to judge him fairly against his time here he’ll need to get battered around the start of February.

It was just a risk that didn't work out. It happens a lot in football. Had he not got into trouble he'd have been fit to play for us sooner, as that seemed to delay things for additional weeks. Now it looks like Villa are taking a chance on him.

I wonder how much of the 110 k week we paid. Crazy for what he offered on the pitch and the pathetic off the field antics.

But this isn't about Chelsea is it, its about our ability to sign good players and get them onto the pitch regularly....we clearly don't do that that. Yes I agree, he wasn't fit and he clearly had/has issues...so does he strike you as not a Sean Dyche type of player ?
I wouldn't be at all surprised, if Villa got something out of him...they currently play football how it should be played lets remember that.

And whilst we are on about coaches being embarrassed about turning players into de-valued dross (Gibson/Vydra) Im sure there is more in there.

Even if he got himself super fit could anyone honestly see Dyche dropping Cork or Westwood for a loan player?

You may describe Gibson as "dross" because he isn't as good as Mee or Tarkowski. I wouldn't.

Obviously it was a mistake signing Drinkwater because he has been no use and we didn't actually need a fourth midfielder - we could have got by with three. But there is a touch of hindsight involved there.

If it turns out to be a masterstroke by Villa will we still be saying he’s not good enough, I still believe he should have been given a chance.

With our resources I can understand the scatter gun approach to signings. Better signing five £10m players and hope that one or two work than one £50m player that may not work.

We have done in the past, we have done that in he championship, signing a few players on the cheap and law of averages means one will come good.

However what’s changed is we are signing has beens as well. I said this last season.I was worried we were signing Hart, Crouch, Lennon, Walters. Players past their best on decent wages with big personalities. It was an approach Sunderland preferred and it didn’t end well.

I don’t mind if we sign players like Vydra. It’s a gamble. But it’s only a gamble if they get the chance.

I didn't watch Middlesbrough all that closely when Gibson played for them, and obviously I haven't seen him play much for Burnley. So all I have to go on is that Sean Dyche thinks Mee is the better option for Burnley. How could I find a reason to disagree?

That won't do their chances of winning the cup any good. Is it still automatic elimination for playing a cup-tied player?

We really do need 4 for cm. Name a professional club that doesn't have at least 4. Bet you can't. It is beyond a joke is our approach to cm. Has been for years.

They will be kicked out of the competition if he plays seen as he's cup tied having played for burnley against Sunderland in an earlier round.

Spoke to an ex pro who played for coventry and swansea who is villa fan. Reckoned he would be a disaster at Villa, suprised how much weight he'd put on and thought it was a disgrace that a pro footballer couldn't get himself fit when it's his job to be fit to play football. Utc posters who love to blame someone are putting it at Dyche's door, what a surprise. I prefer to take the opinions of someone who used to play the game at a decent level myself.

No, Jason Smith. Without checking I don't think he ever played for Cov and went to Swansea after dropping into non league with Tiverton. Giant of a centre half so don't quote me on what he said  he put his arms out to stop me getting past him in the queue for dinner in true centre half style, I was getting past him and I was starving. Always interesting listening to the ex pros. He reckoned if it was your job to be match fit it wasn't too difficult especially with all the sports science in the modern game.

John Williams was a flying winger I'd forgotten about.

I wonder how much of the 110 k week we paid. Crazy for what he offered on the pitch and the pathetic off the field antics.
The average weekly wage at Chelsea last season was in excess of £130k.

That won't do their chances of winning the cup any good. Is it still automatic elimination for playing a cup-tied player?
The cup tied rules need scrapping now.

They were put in place when people signed players to play in the cups. Now they're lucky to get reserve players playing.

Exactly. Given we have such an awful midfield, we create a decent amount of goal scoring opportunities. 21 against Villa, 6 against Everton away and 8 against Man United. I never feel we won’t create chances, but we have lacked tho composure to convert them (or even get them on target) in recent games.

See Villa are winning. Knew signing Drinkwater would turn them around.

I was surprised at Dyche, should have been binned off back to Chelsea straight after the night-club injury/fracas.

Time will tell I suppose. I guarantee he'll at least be given a chance at Villa though.
He was given a chance at Burnley. He didn't take it.
