Hart to Villa - Yay or Nay
Hart to Villa - Yay or Nay
Lots of rumours around on this one but may be a case of putting two and two together and getting five.
Curious what people's thoughts are on it though. Would it be better to let him go, get a little bit of cash for him and bring BPF in or do we not want to strengthen relegation rivals (he may not be the greatest keeper anymore but he's probably one of the better ones you can get in the January window) and run the risk of only one first team keeper if Pope gets injured?

I don’t think he’d strengthen Villa.
I’d be happy to see him go there.

Re: Hart to Villa - Yay or Nay
Pepe Reina has been linked with them today.
He would not strengthen them like he didn't us.
We need to get his wages off the books if we can. The wage bill is too high preventing us bringing more players in.

Absolutely let him go.
If he started for Villa, I believe they would go down.

Can go for me, I'd be happy with Pope and BPF, although would like a better 3rd choice than Ledgzins.

Re: Hart to Villa - Yay or Nay
With us seemingly not spending anything this window, we may as well keep him as backup and let him go in the summer, as opposed to potentially helping Villa if he was to suddenly start putting in some world class performances - knowing how strange football can be, you just know that would happen.

I’d let him go as I don’t think he’s any better than what they have already at this stage of his career.
So long as we reinvest the wages/fee into a position we are desperate for. Centre mid and right back.

We can't keep players just because they may suddenly become world beaters. If they can't do it here then we have to have faith that we are right in our judgement of the player and get rid in order to bring someone else in.

Re: Hart to Villa - Yay or Nay
A simple question bacause Ive never seen them play but if between Legzdins Jensen and McMahon...plus maybe another one or two in the junior sides...there isnt a third choice keeper, what are they doing at the club in the first place?

Re: Hart to Villa - Yay or Nay
Two of those mentioned are youngsters who may or may not be good enough in the future (I have never seen either play so other may be able to provide a better opinion) but probably are not ready to be thrust into a PL match / relegation scrap in the event of injury / suspension to the first 2 and the other is currently our 4th choice and possibly here to assist with the training and being a cheap option that has played at a decent level and possibly could do a more reliable job than a kid in an absolute emergency.
Just a guess but I would say that is why they are all at the club. not to play games but to learn their trade or if necessary play in dire emergency.

Keep him. Definitely. What have we got if Pope gets injured? Why, when we are in a spot of bother at the moment, do we want to weaken the squad? Hart may be past his best but he is still a cut above the average reserve keeper. And please please please don't anyone come up with 'think of the money we'll save in wages'. If we keep going down that route we might as well sack all the first team and have done with it.

With Pope just the subject of an injury scare, I wouldn't be letting Hart go anywhere.

Is he though? and if we get rid of Hart and Pope gets injured then we have an international Goalkeeper in BPF waiting in the wings.houseboy wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2020 2:22 pmKeep him. Definitely. Re: Hart to Villa - Yay or Nay
I actually think Hart is still a decent goalkeeper and he has come in for so much unfair criticism on here. Heaton was a hero but in his abscence Tarks and Mee suddenly started playing sh!te. Why? Was Heaton frightened of losing his place? What were Tarks and Mee thinking at the time? We will never know but it is still very odd to me that our two normally totally dependable CBs started playing like amateurs while Hart was in goal. Our season turned around with the return of Heaton - I'm sorry but a goalkeeper does not make that kind of difference that a team heading for relegation suddenly starts playing like a team heading for Europe. Something was amiss at that time and we'll probably never know what (I still think it was about players being dropped for European games to be honest) but Hart shouldered far too much of the blame at the time in my opinion.

Touché. I would hope (and limited viewing so far is encouraging) that BPF is a much better keeper than Penny

Get him and his wages out of this club. If Heaton hadn't got back to fitness last season we were going down with him. No command of back four. Get BPF up to speed with first team squad now.

Re: Hart to Villa - Yay or Nay
I agree he gets too much of a harsh ride and I'm not saying he couldn't be a useful squad player. My point is that he is a very expensive back-up and I would feel almost as happy with BPF sat on the bench at probably a quarter of the weekly cost that could go towards strengthening another area that needs it more.houseboy wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2020 3:15 pmI actually think Hart is still a decent goalkeeper and he has come in for so much unfair criticism on here. Re: Hart to Villa - Yay or Nay
Thought that he might still be with us when the 'window' closes (his wage being a sticking point), but with Drinkwater going to Villa and them, reportedly, paying his wages in full, I suppose it could happen. Many on here seem certain that the club will do nothing in this 'window', but with a couple of big wages saved, surely they would alter their stance.

Peacock Farrell is a decent goalkeeper whose ambition was to play PL, our problem is who would be 3rd choice, given that the management haven't shown faith in Legzdins to fill that role.

I wasn't impressed in the Posh game, but as I said I have no axe to grind. Unless Peacock Farrell is teady to step into premier league football, we'd be mad to let Hart go.
We need a top class understudy and Hart is still that.

lets not forget that when Heaton got injured we had a collective panic attack that Pope wouldn't be good enough. I have every faith in Peacock Farrell and the team who support him to allow Hart to leave

Hart being reluctant to come off his line meant Mee and Tarks had to change their style of play .houseboy wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2020 3:15 pmI actually think Hart is still a decent goalkeeper and he has come in for so much unfair criticism on here. Also the defence as a whole played deeper resulting in bigger gaps between midfield and forwards.
Mee seemed to spend all his time trying to cover Hart on the goal line and not defending like he used to. The away game at West Ham springs to mind.
Not saying Hart is not a good keeper, just his style wasnt suited to Burnley

Keep him.
Imagine that we sell and and he keeps them up at the expense of sending someone else, wearing Claret & Blue, down.
Keep him here. Villa have enough money to buy someone else.

Re: Hart to Villa - Yay or Nay
BPF has experienced regular international football against the likes of Germany and Holland, and not let anybody down. I wouldn't have any worries about him playing in a Premier league game.

BPF does not seem to get a lot of game time for us-more for Northern Ireland
Only two people can answer this question-Billy Mercer who has to be one of the top GK coaches in the PL, and SD (more from him being able to handle the Pressure). I suspect both will rate BPF, so it may be better to get a fee now and also save his wages

Re: Hart to Villa - Yay or Nay
I'd let him go,as long as Pope's over his injury scare,BUT we have to strengthen our midfield,if saving wages on Drinkwater and Hart allows us either to fund a loanee,or a permanent signing great,if we fail to recruit in this window then i fear the worst for the remainder of the season.
Re: Hart to Villa - Yay or Nay
To ease our wage bill 'Yay'
For a backup, he's on pretty big wages for a team like ours.
Can't really see Villa being interested in him tbh anyway, infact I'd be surprised if any Premier League team was interested. He would just be the same at any other PL team, a backup at most. So wages will be a put off, teams could get as good/if not better backup options for cheaper.
