Might not be a bad idea for Jimmy to have one last hurrah in England this summer and then call it a day? I know he wants to carry on but it seems like his fitness is letting him down more and more. Chance to finish on a high, would be such a shame if his career ended by limping out of a series halfway through.

Massive blow for England.

Another few games missed, where he had a real chance of taking a good amount of wickets.

I fear everytime I hear him injured, that I might not see him bowl again.

Side strains are a fairly common injury for quick bowlers and they usually take a few weeks to clear up. I did think his injury last summer might have finished him but I doubt this will be nothing other than a few weeks out.

He’s had 2 injuries, one after each other but other than that he historically does extremely well for his age and the fact he’s a seamer.

Don’t write him off just yet :D

He goes to the same doctor as JBG. (It was Walters who kindly recommended him apparently! )

For his age and the fact that he's an opening bowler, he's done really well injury wise. A side strain is the sort of thing that happens. The worst injury was around 2006 when he had the back problem.

Think he might get a few games for Burnley just to ease himself back in come April.

It's happened before

Despite all the fart gas and wind spouted about various English bowlers over recent years, Anderson is the only truly consistently world class pace bowler we've had for a very long time.

There is some real dross around masquerading as England test bowlers...some of them wouldnt have got a game of county cricket back in the day.

You do wonder how many more wickets he’d have taken if Lancashire hadn't tried to change his bowling action all those years ago

A big worry when him and Broad fully retire.

Was it Lancs or was it the England bowling coach at the time?

6 weeks out worst scenario.

I wouldn't of taken him to Sri Lanka anyway.

Just get him ready for the home series in the summer.

Or did he amass his wicket haul as a result of changing his action?

He changed back quite quickly as it wasn't working.

Pity just as Jimmy was getting back to his best, hope Jofra's fit for the next test otherwise England really will be stretched.

Broad,Archer,Sam Curran and maybe Ben Stokes is still a decent attack, but there's doubts about how many overs Archer and Stokes can manage between them,i suppose if Dom Bess can hold up an end to allow Root to rotate the quicks that'll help,i can't see Craig Overton being called up unless he's the only option, but ideally Broad would be rested at some point over the winter, the last thing England want is for him to break down as well.

No. He went back to how it had been. He lost wickets and appearances because of them trying to change him.

We'll know what the Windies felt like then, when they lost Walsh & Ambrose.
Anderson & Broad are a great double act.

Jimmy has confirmed he has a broken rib, so the 6 weeks is likely.
I don't know if the top medical teams available to him can do any more than the rest needed.

I don't think Michael Vaughan wanted him in the side either.
Not that he would admit it now.

Inevitable the amount of time he's been out that he would pick another strain up. Quick bowling is a massive strain for the human body even if you're a super fit 21 year old. On the plus side, he'll be able to get some golf in at nelson this year when fit as his old man is the captain this year. :D

Think that was the time they brought Saggers back in, at Leeds. Forget who against.
Vaughan reportedly had him as ' captains' pick ahead of Jimmy, when he'd got himself fit again and was raring to go.
Outrageous, as it seems, Jimmy's face really didn't fit around then.
Only for a very short time though.
The rest is history at its best!

He jibbed out on coming Sheff Utd away with us as a golf tournament had been rearranged.
He got lucky really.

can't agreee dande..even given the statstcal similarities.

I'm happy to mention Anderson n the same breath as the true world class greats of the game...Warne, McGrath, Lillee ,Ambrose, Murali...but Broads name doesnt join that list for me. He's become a solid test performer and can hit the seam consistently..and hes up there in test terms. Anderson is imo the best swing bowler in test history..and then some.

He’s 37 and I’m not sure the last time he lasted a full test series without picking up an injury.
To play at the level he has for so long is remarkable but I think he is not far from calling it a day now for England and probably all cricket. It’s tough for the selectors too knowing there is a big chance he won’t last a series but that he is still often the best bowler.

Whatever happens he’s going to go down as one of the best bowlers in the history of the game and I still think it’s a bit surreal that he’s from Burnley.
