FA Cup prices

Post by Andreshotboots » Fri Jan 10, 2020 11:06 pm

Increased from the last round, no kids prices. Don't think many from Norwich will bother.
Could be looking at a lower attendance than the 3rd round..does the pricing have to be agreed between both clubs?

There is kids pricing isn’t there?

Will be a low attendance though I think.

Just under 18s mate. I thought they might have tried something to fill a few more seats for this round. £1 for under 10s or something. The last game was like a pre season friendly inside the ground .

Those prices are ****ing ridiculous, but, in spite of our PL riches, (hahaha lol) if 11,000 ST-holding adults go on (hahaha lol) that'll pay for a month of Danny Drinkwater's wage. I love modern football. Umbaba umbaba umbaba umbaba!

The concession prices are for under-22s not under-18s

It's a moot point. Those prices are a joke at a time when we're rapidly losing the relapsed supporters we regained through promotion. The idea of a 'new fan' or a 'premier league fan' in any context involving Burnley is utter nonsense. They're still Burnley fans, even in absentia. They just have enough self-respect not to be taken for mugs. Absolute joke.

Were you expecting free tickets? Not sure why it is a joke, it's one round on and against a Premier League team. What on earth were you expecting?

Could they have been cheaper? Yes, they could and I do admit I don't get this dual pricing for season ticket and non season ticket holders. I'd have set them all at £15 for adults and £7.50 concessions.

For it to be cheaper. I thought that would've come though considering what I posted?

Norwich aren't a premier league team. They're in the premier league, but they aren't a premier league team.

Oh well, that's another game that I won't be taking the kids on then. £40 for an FA Cup 4th round match against Norwich. Not for me.

I don’t think the prices are particularly awful but I really don't get the whole STH v non STH pricing. Surely cup games like this are the ideal opportunity to try and encourage new fans that may then turn into season ticket holders not punish them further because they don't have one.

If I must point it out, nor are we. This is a championship fixture played in a cup tournament between two sided who happen to somehow play in the premier league. Long story short, the club has implemented near-on glamour tie pricing for a cup tie against a team who are below us, and have been for about half a decade, as though we aren't tapped into a ridiculously lucrative revenue stream, and as though the support base isn't dwindling, even in the PL.

Totally agree with you on the season ticket holder/non season ticket holder debate - we did it for the Sunderland and Peterborough games too and it is also passed to their season ticket holders.

Remind me how many seasons we've been in the PL now? How can it possibly be akin to a championship fixture?

The pricing is half of what a PL ticket would cost.

Other than that, great post!

Yes. Two premier league teams... last time I looked.

Here's an idea.. don't go. It sounds like that's the stance that you're planning to take, given your anger over the pricing.

'Don't buy it then if you don't like it' would be a fatefully hubristic marketing approach for any football club to take (and perhaps Icarian, to extend the Greek tragedy metaphor). I'd have hoped we'd be a little smarter than that.

FA cup games are the prefect time to do kid for a quid and adults £10. £12 all in for an adult and 2 kids could see them kids become life long burnley fans. It’s a long term opportunity to gain life long supporters or as the club probably seen them ‘customers’ in exchange for a bit of extra short term profit. It’s poor from the club and shows they can’t see past their noses.
And this charging non-season ticket holders is ridiculous. Are these people likely to support a club long term that treats fans who maybe can’t afford to or can’t for other reasons attend all games like that?
We act like a club that has full houses every game with 100,000 eager fans outside queueing to get in. We are Burnley not Barcelona.

I've no objection with the adult prices, they are less than half price. If you bought anything else with that discount it would be shouted from the roof tops what a good deal it was.
Where the club miss a big trick is kids prices. Under 12s could be £1, it gets them interested in the club, so a future income stream, and they sell more soft drinks, hot dogs, programs and stuff from the club shop to make them more profitable than the adults attending. Plus they don't moan at a missplaced pass :D

I guess that the club have lower prices for season ticket holders to demonstrate the added value to those having bought a ST. Although the fact that non - ST holders will now have payed £10 more for 2 Cup games is hardly a sufficient incentive to persuade someone to purchase one next season. Also, if we get drawn away next year there won't be any saving!

Don’t both teams have to agree the prices for cup games?
We could have said to Norwich we want to charge £10/£5/£1 but they didn’t agree to it

Yes, I think that's correct and if it is the case maybe fans could be told this (which would help fans understand the reasons behind the prices and would maybe stop the complaints).

Edit - Just checked and after the qualifying rounds the away club has no say in the ticket pricing. It's purely at the discretion of the home club but there is a minimum adult price of £10 but no mention of any minimum price for concessions.

They certainly do and if I remember correctly Norwich paid £15 a ticket at Preston in the previous round so may have used this as a barometer in the discussions.

The club probably thinks because we only got 6000 on doing it at £10 we will likely get a similar loyal number in this round, so why not make a bit extra if the £10 hasn’t attracted enough people.

I didn’t go v Peterborough (id put my reasons on the that thread) however I will be going vs Norwich and at £15 it’s not an awful lot more than you pay nowadays for decent non league football. But I will add the extra cash for non season ticket holders isn’t really on. Those are the ones we need to keep attracting to the games imo.

Completely agree. I’ve posted about lower ticket prices for cup games before, as have many people. The prices you’ve quoted still wouldn’t fill the stadium, but would surely guarantee over 15,000. It must be horrible for our players to have to play inside a two-thirds empty stadium. When on earth will the club start trying to attract new fans, let alone trying to create some atmosphere at home cup games. This match would have been an ideal opportunity.

The aim should be trying to get the young kids hooked as early as possible.

By the time they reach high school they're watching teams on TV, their mates are influencing them etc etc.

Whilst young 0-10 they need to be a Burnley supporter, a free under 12 ticket with every adult would help get the school kids in.
Kids follow trends, and getting young kids talking about going on the football to their friends at school can only be s good thing.

I remember taking my yungest to his first game at 3 year old.
He wanted a drink, a hot dog, crisp, etc, and only lasted 45 minutes, but the club ( Accy I think it was ) ended up with about £30 out of me.

But then the week after he wanted to go on again when asked.
That game he spotted programmes , a scarf , hot dog and wanted them too.

Before you know it the kids hooked, telling everyone about the football and you're spending more than just the ticket cost, and a new fan is gained

Do what you can, get them in and see where it goes, dont discourage families before even seeing a game.

I couldn't agree more, I would love to know the clubs reason for not doing this or similar

Because at present everything we do as a club seems to be extremely short sighted. The attitude seems to be we've got the Premiership money rolling in so we don't need to make any effort. When we get relegated, probably in the next year or two the day trippers and tourists will disappear and we'll soon be back to the hardcore 11/12 thousand. The club would do well to remember that.

I honestly don’t think there would have been as many moans about £15 for an FACup 4th round 10 years ago, it’s not that much. I agree that £1 a kid would offset the adults ticket and encourage people to take their kids on though

15 quid isn't drastic but my adult ST in the CF stand works out at around £16 a game for comparison.

Quid a kid would of been great as Macca says but the club has to make money now. The price setters are responsible for their being enough money for stewards and pie sellers.

Colne FC play today, £8 a ticket. 7th tier, just for perspective.

Good post / point Macca.
But on a side note, you should remember if it was Accy seeing that we`ve only ever played each other once competitively in over 100 years of football!

Or you could go to Padiham FC with your season ticket for 3 quid.

£15 for all adults at this stage is fine but it should be offset for U22 which should be £1.

My family weren’t Burnley fans but I first came on in the last few matches of 1985 when they did kids for a quid and we came as a group of mates and that discount by club has been rewarded.

Glamour tie pricing :) It’s £15 mate, pocket change.
It's £20 for non-ST holders, which quickly becomes approaches £50 for a family day out. I was quite deliberate in using the phrase "near-on".

It shows the insanity of football because some of the non league prices now are ridiculous.

On the subject of cup prices, I did post this week the prices Man U were charging Wolves fans for the replay. For non season ticket holders it’s between £45 & £55.

Some very good points though on this thread. I’ll gather the info and ensure it is discussed with the club at our next meeting.
