Please consider bringing a tin for the bin this Sunday V Leicester
Hi all,
West Yorkshire Clarets will be manning the eight wheelie bins around the ground in the two hours before kick-off this coming Sunday, ahead of the game against Leicester.
Having recently visited the community Kitchen and seen the excellent work that is being done there, I really feel that this is worth a big push on our part. I appreciate that some will not want to, but it’s not asking much to put a tin of beans in your pocket And deposit them in a bin as you turn into the ground, is it? And we are the masses and it shouldn’t take much to make a very valuable difference.
Please give it some thought and consider making it part of your matchday routine.
Thanks ever so much.
John

Are there processes in place to make sure that the donations go to those who need it, and not to those who spend money on illegal substances and have nothing left for food. I've seen so called homeless on local streets refusing food because they only want cash.... I wonder why?

The response has been fantastic but we know it can get better. It is still only a small percentage of fans who donate but some people bring carrier bags full every game. Simply though, if every single fan brought one tin then the difference it would make would be huge.Longsidelenny wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2020 10:16 amAs I have said before please keep up the good work utc
Because of kick off times and some supporters clubs not backing it, we've not been able to do a collection since the Newcastle game. The response from the Geordies that day was absolutely brilliant, on a par with the amounts we collected from both the Liverpool and Everton fans earlier in the season. Some of our supporters clubs - Burnley FC Supporters Groups, Boundary Clarets, North Manchester Clarets and West Yorkshire Clarets as well as Up the Clarets - took donations to Goodison on Boxing Day. The Everton chairman came out with a huge donation too that day.
It's so rewarding to be able to help those in our community who are most in need and, given I'm on duty this weekend with WYC, I just hope it remains fine.

When are the collection points removed? Last time I couldn’t find anyone to give my tins to.

Thanks for this question. The bins are removed fifteen minutes before kick off and people can continue to deposit as they’re rolled back to the fanzone area. Ten minutes before kick off all people who have manned the bins make their way into the ground to watch the game in it’s entirety, as for all, they’re all volunteers.
Re: Please consider bringing a tin for the bin this Sunday V Leicester
Thanks for the heads up JDR. I can't make Sunday's game due to the kick off time so no tins from me this week. I didn't spot over the Christmas period that they weren't being collected and ended up smuggling them into the ground. I'll have my usual two tins at the next game. Well done to all giving up their time to collect.

If you are later they can be dropped off at the Community unit to the right of the fanzone.

Re: Please consider bringing a tin for the bin this Sunday V Leicester
Just a note of thanks to anyone who dropped some food, toothpaste, pet supplies etc, in one of the bins around the ground yesterday. It’s the second time that I’ve been on duty with the West Yorkshire Clarets, having previously done it for the inaugural collection at the Liverpool game earlier in the season. It was an absolute pleasure to participate in and really pleasing to see just how many more people are now starting to take note and bring a small contribution that they can afford to leave with us. Some people are so creative with what they drop off but whatever it is, these contributions are making a huge difference already. I would say that out of the eight wheelie bins available, we probably filled seven of them! It’s terrible that we have to do such a thing in this day of age, but needs must and the problem isn’t going to go away any time soon. Thanks to those who took the time to pay an interest in what we were doing, even if they weren’t carrying a tin with them. Thanks again and UTC!

I called into B&M when I arrived in Burnley. I had in mind the request for tinned corned beef.
I am pleased to that Princes CB was the managers special @ £1.87 a tin.
B&M obviously Clarets!
Ps I was a bit worried when Ormerod Yard was empty! Fortunately, I found the bins at the fan zone.

Here is a bit from wikipedia about Europe...
The first European food bank was opened in France in 1984.[1] The first food bank in Italy was established in 1989. Similar to the UK's experience, foodbanks have become much more common across continental Europe since the crisis that began in 2008, and especially since austerity measures began to take effect from late-2010, after the Conservative-Lib Dem coalition launched their austerity programme to cut billions of pounds in public expenditure.[13]
In Spain, food banks can operate on the warehouse model, supplying a network of surrounding soup kitchens and other food relief agencies. The Spanish federation of food banks [es] helped to feed about 800,000 people during 2008–11, according to the Carrefour Foundation.[31] By October 2014, Spain had 55 food banks in total, with the numbers who depend on them having increased to 1.5 million.[32]
In Belgium, food banks helped about 121,000 people during 2012. That was an increase of about 4,500 compared with 2011, the biggest increase since the start of the 2008 crisis. Belgian food banks account for about 65% of all food aid given out within the country.[33]
The number of food banks has increased rapidly in Germany, a country that has weathered the crisis relatively well, and has not needed to implement severe austerity measures. In 2012, professor Sabine Pfeiffer of Munich University of Applied Sciences said there has been an "explosion" of food bank usage.[13]

I suspect there was a time in the eighties that you'd have been questioned by a member of Lancashire's finest, if you'd have been discovered approaching a Football ground, with a small tin concealed in your pockets ...
Whilst we'd all like a world without Food-banks, at least we've moved on from that situation !

You don't want a facility for people who have (through their own fault or otherwise) no food? It's only like a more wide ranging system of neighbours helping neighbours. Surely a good thing?Clarets4me wrote: ↑Mon Jan 20, 2020 10:32 pmWhilst we'd all like a world without Food-banks, at least we've moved on from that situation !

You misunderstand me ... what I meant was it would be great if everyone were well provided with food, and they weren't required ...
Trust me, I'm a big supporter of the food-bank idea ... just search my recent post history !

What C4me meant was about carrying food tins into TM not about foodbanks...
We would all want a world where they aren't needed but we can't always have what we want.

Re: Please consider bringing a tin for the bin this Sunday V Leicester
Short of a totalitarian state, we will always need food banks. There will always be people who spend up to their savings and beyond (making credit cards and other loans harder to access might help), who are unable to cope when income drops; there always have been and always will be people who have so little sense of budget that they spend everything they have before realising that they still have bills to pay; and I suppose there will always be people who have so little money that even after disposing of all non-essentials they literally do not have the wherewithal (or perhaps the knowledge) to subsist off. You can't stop people spending.Clarets4me wrote: ↑Mon Jan 20, 2020 11:06 pmYou misunderstand me ... what I meant was it would be great if everyone were well provided with food, and they weren't required ...

No big deal, as the bins had to be somewhere...I thought. Honest Mr Steward, these are not missiles!
It was probably 20 to quarter to, so I may have missed them. Thought I was in time but but not a problem. Everyone has a right to take their seat in good time!

Re: Please consider bringing a tin for the bin this Sunday V Leicester
Hi Ian,
I have spoken to the chaps who were positioned out there. They were very honest and said that they left that just after 1:40pm and made their way slowly back to the starting point. They sit in the BL Stand, so in fairness, had the furthest walk of us all to male. And as you’ve already said yourself, I make it absolutely clear to anyone that volunteers for the West Yorkshire Clarets, that they shouldn’t miss kick off. That’s very important to me, when people are giving up their own time to help.
Thanks for taking the time to post.
