Jimmy Greaves in their line-up. Shudder! I'm glad I wasn't aware of his incredible goal scoring feats as a youngster at Chelsea. Only read about them a few years later. They read like something from a boys comic of the time.

Was a rare event him playing on the Turf and not scoring.Silkyskills1 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2020 12:11 pmJimmy Greaves in their line-up. Shudder! Whatever else has been said about Bob Lord, it's to his eternal credit that he kept Ken Bates out of Turf Moor,
Imagine those two in the same boardroom!

I was just a bit too young then to fully comprehend and appreciate what I call ' the Jimmy Greaves' phenomenon. What a goalscorer he was! Even now, 60 years on I still rate him one of the greatest(if not the greatest) of all time. Any football fan will have their own favourite,of course and it is all very objective but that man was destructively clinical in front of goal. Sometimes wonder if he could have been better had he trained harder and looked after himself better. Then again that wouldn't have been the Jimmy Greaves I idolised as a schoolboy and who dashed my dreams on so many occasions.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2020 5:52 pmWas a rare event him playing on the Turf and not scoring.

Couldn’t agree more with you. He’s up there with anyone else I’ve ever seen.Silkyskills1 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2020 7:14 pmI was just a bit too young then to fully comprehend and appreciate what I call ' the Jimmy Greaves' phenomenon.
