Leeds bid for Bowen
Only posting this as many have suggested we could/should be after him
3 million loan fee until the end of the season rising to 15 million permanent signing if they get promoted - that's a serious loan fee !!!
Doubt it will happen, I suspect he will go for a lot more than 15

Once again ambition shown as we sit back and do nothing
Re: Leeds bid for Bowen
Apparently Hull want £20m. Should still be all over it, I’d be offering up Vydra if possible as well although I know wages may be an issue on that front.

The loan fee is relative to what they are confident he will help them achieve. It’s thinking outside the box and rigid structures of what they will and won’t do.

Local journos are saying they aren't in for him. Hull want 20m. Nothing to see here..

Re: Leeds bid for Bowen
If we don't get Bowen will it be a case of "Look at what you could have won " ?

Re: Leeds bid for Bowen
I believe £20 million would be money well spent. Just a shame we didn’t go in for him 18 months back!!
Re: Leeds bid for Bowen
I'd say 20 million would be a decent price for Bowen given some of the ridiculous fees these days.
Re: Leeds bid for Bowen
Nice player and whoever gets him will probably end up with a good deal but it won't be us - we've already said we're not going to sign players.

For what it’s worth Nixon reckons he’s been told we won’t be coming in for him.

Agreed...
Re: Leeds bid for Bowen
Nixon now saying that we won’t go in form him.
If he’s right, then I’m certainly disappointed. But not surprised. Not remotely surprised.

Re: Leeds bid for Bowen
Probably be pointless us going in for him now, another Premier league club would come in and offer him more money. Last summer was the time to try.

Re: Leeds bid for Bowen
Nixon is saying no premier league club is in for him which might say something. I think he improves us though.
Re: Leeds bid for Bowen
It's a hell of a risk £20m. What was Che Adams £16? and to date he's struggling to get a full start. I don't envy SD and MG looking at recruits in the transfer market, it must be soul destroying at times.

Re: Leeds bid for Bowen
From what I've seen of Bowen he looks a good footballer though. Even in the Championship Che Adams was only a hard-working, hustle and bustle type. And don't forget we paid 15 million for Ben Gibson, whose played 45 minutes of league action for us in 18 months.
Re: Leeds bid for Bowen
Did anyone read a thread last week titled why you shouldn't spend big in January?
I doubt it judging by the lack of replies. The football managers on here certainly didn't or just ignored it as it didn't fit with their agenda / stick to beat the club with.

Re: Leeds bid for Bowen
In an ideal world you wouldn't need to spend big in January. But after our inaction in the transfer market the last 18 months or so we're struggling a bit and in a relegation battle.
Also if we were to sign Bowen we'd get a good player for the run in and worse case scenario a very good player in the league below if we go down.

Do you carry out detailed football analysis for a living?

Re: Leeds bid for Bowen
If we don’t spend some money this month, then there’s a very real chance that we’ll get relegated, the squad is that stale.
We still could get relegated even if we do spend, but given our pitiful last few transfer windows where we have failed to improve the starting eleven, it’s a risk worth taking I would say.
Re: Leeds bid for Bowen
I would need to carry out some detailed football analysis, look at costs and if the player actually wanted to sign for the club before making a judgment on, as you say, whether to just muddle through to summer. I'm only referring to an article based on detailed research about January signings. A few on here see heavy spending as the answer, they would also be the first to criticise if that transfer didn't work out.

So a Championship club try to sign a player from another Championship club and that's your responseWoodleyclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2020 8:00 pmOnce again ambition shown as we sit back and do nothing

just shows the player agents can also make the computer game managers out there suddenly add 10M to the price by circulating a rumour. Unbelievable!

Similarly fast forward 18 mths onto 6/7 2021, it’s also very possible some of the names we’ve been linked with will also be going for around the £20 million mark. History could well repeat itself.

Re: Leeds bid for Bowen
Slight exaggeration there. I'm simply pointing out 20 million for Bowen isn't a lot of money these days. OK sweetheart? No need to get your knickers in a twist.

Re: Leeds bid for Bowen
The lad looks a good player at Championship level but £20m, if the figure is correct, represents far too much of a gamble imo. Also looks like Villa are interested in him.
Re: Leeds bid for Bowen
Plenty of good players have made the step up from the Championship in recent years. Brooks, Maddison and Grealish to name but a few. What's the alternative if we aren't going to shop abroad?ashtonlongsider wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2020 6:46 amThe lad looks a good player at Championship level but £20m, if the figure is correct, represents far too much of a gamble imo. Re: Leeds bid for Bowen
All transfers are a gamble, that's where our recruitment team step up and minimise the risk. But if we want to shop for higher-end players in the Championship, that's the going rate (and it's only going up).
Maupay - Brighton 20 million from Brentford.
McBurnie cost Sheff Utd 18m.
Ryan Sessengnon 25m Fulham to Spurs.
Philip Billing 15m Huddersfield to Bournemouth.
Adam Webster 20m Bristol City to Brighton.
Daniel James 15m Swansea to Man Utd.
I don't think that's the way to go for us - we need to be identifying the players earlier so they cost us less (Brentford paid 1.8m for Maupay two years ago) or doing our shopping elsewhere. But we do need to start doing some shopping.

Re: Leeds bid for Bowen
We won't be going in for Bowen
We never go for player's other team's want, when did we go up against another team for a player and won the signature, we sign player's no one else wants.
Taylor, Cork and Wood all signed in the summer transfer window of 2017 and are the last player's we signed that are regular first team player's on the team sheet week in week out.
Since then
January transfer window 2018 Nothing
Summer transfer window 2018 Nothing
January transfer window 2019 Nothing
Summer transfer window 2019 Nothing
That's a hell of a lot of transfer window time not to add to the first team starting eleven. The first team eleven picks itself the players know their place in not under threat and it shows the team has gone stale with no competition for places, no matter how they play unless a player is banned or injured they will be picked week in week out.
