Re: Today's footy
I guess them both losing players to suspension is ideal.

Do you think they have a chance of winning the thing, Frank?FactualFrank wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2020 4:18 pmAs things stand, Liverpool are 14 points clear of Man City with 2 games in hand.

Re: Today's footy
On what basis exactly? Fair enough they was dire earlier on in the season & then a resurgence when Pearson took over, but midtable really? I think certain people are getting too carried away or underestimated Pearsons creditionals when appointed, I kept quiet reserving judgement.FactualFrank wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2020 12:09 pmI wouldn't be concerned with Watford beating Spurs. Watford will comfortably be mid-table come the end of the season.

I do appreciate where we are, (plaing in he Premier League) but - as said above - we seemed to play better a couple of seasons ago. Our present team isn't tht different to the one then.

On the basis that I think they're better than their league position - my opinion.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2020 5:10 pmOn what basis exactly? Re: Today's footy
With the exception of defeat for Bournemouth most of the other struggling teams picked up one or more points.
Tomorrow we face Leicester and another performance where our weak midfield will almost certainly, once again be over-run.
I can't find much comfort in today's results.

Wasn't earlier though, so somebody's getting a tune out of under performing players previously, sorry to hark back to earlier, when in certain people's eyes Pearson wouldn't contribute, I'm not including you in the earlier assessment regarding a managerial warped assessment.FactualFrank wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2020 5:11 pmOn the basis that I think they're better than their league position - my opinion.

Re: Today's footy
One basis is their defence: they have conceded 2 goals in the last six EPL fixtures and their opponents included Spurs and Man U. against whom we conceded seven.

The question wasn't directed in hindsight although a useful implement to possess, more a inference opinions seem to be obtained on a knee jerk basis as opposed to a fundamental evidential footing to ascertain any sort of substance. Wake up white bread for breakfast when suffering constipation & all bran & laxatives straight in front you, as a apt anology.ClaretLoup wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2020 5:18 pmOne basis is their defence: they have conceded 2 goals in the last six EPL fixtures and their opponents included Spurs and Man U. against whom we conceded seven.

Re: Today's footy
Great results today for me. Soton stay in trouble. As do Watford. Bha didn’t extend their lead. Villa only a point. Bmouth lose again.
A 2-0 win tmrw will put us 5 pts clear..6 really with +4 GD

Re: Today's footy
Stuart Webber
I think their recruitment, with the exception of Pukki, has been okay. Nothing truly special. Their decision to mainly go with what they had this season and give the chance to the players that got them promoted, instead of spending a fortune, was a good one though.
What really benefitted them is that some really good youngsters came through their ranks at the same time, including Todd Cantwell, Max Arrons, Jamal Lewis, Ben Godfrey, Josh Murphy and James Maddison.
When you get a crop of young players like that entering your first team, at little to no cost, it tends to make the job of recruitment a lot easier. Those players were already at the club when Webber arrived in 2017.
So maybe their recent success owes more to the contributions made by Ricky Martin, Lee Darnborough ( doubtful, unless his emails have improved ) and Tony Spearing who left at the same time Webber arrived.
