Re: Burnley v Leicester - Player Ratings
I’m expecting Cork to get lower ratings than Westwood. He shouldn’t do, he should get higher... We will see.
Re: Burnley v Leicester - Player Ratings
Pope 9. Should have stopped goal otherwise 10
Bardsley 7 did well against pace
Tarks 8 Class
Mee 4 had a mare and could have given away a second pen but got an assist first goal
Taylor 6
Hendrick. 8 excellent today
Cork 5 off the pace today
Westwood 8 back to bear his best
McNeil 7
J Rod 6
Wood 5 poor but got his goal

Re: Burnley v Leicester - Player Ratings
Some crazy scores here.
Mee, Cork and J-Rod were all poor to average to be honest.

Re: Burnley v Leicester - Player Ratings
Cork was head and shoulders above the rest of the midfield, in the first half.
Re: Burnley v Leicester - Player Ratings
It’s all about opinions.
My opinion is that he was ******* awful in the first half and not much better second.

Pope 8 penalty game changer
Bardsley 7 Solid enough and brings physicality
Tarks 6 made an art form out of losing Vardy, lucky with some tackles from behind
Mee 4 ripped a new one by Barnes and a huge weak link now
Taylor 7 our best defender now
Hendrick 8 busy and tricks
Cork 5 we need a replacement desperately but can feel slightly unfortunate with first
Westwood 8 goals were the missing piece
McNeil 7 busier as the game went on
J Rod 6 just ok
Wood 6 just ok

Wells as a squad player, he’s got to be better than chucking Kevin Long on up top.

Re: Burnley v Leicester - Player Ratings
Pope -9 momentum changed with his pen save but he made a string of excellent saves
Bardsley -7 - far better option than Lowton
Mee -5 - really poor for the first goal and the penalty and lucky to get away with the handball
Tarks -6
Taylor -7 - offered width and put a couple of delightful balls in.
McNeil - 7 wanted a bit more but still our biggest threat
Westwood -7 when he plays well we play well
Cork -6 loses a mark for the mistake. Other than the mistake I thought he did reasonably well and I’m not his biggest fan.
Hendrick -8 - this is the Jeff Hendrick I want to see. Good in both directions and when he plays with confidence he’s infinitely better.
J-Rod -7
Wood -7
The best we have played in weeks/months. A deserved result against a team who will be in the Champions League next season.
There are still issues/concerns but if we perform with that intensity and that spirit we will be fine.

Most entertaining game this season at home. The presence of Rodriguez and absence of Barnes meant we played to feet more and we looked better for it. Cork was brilliant all game apart from his mistake, but I thought it was a foul anyway.
Cracking game overall and Leicester played their part.

Pope- 9 MOM
Bardsley- 7 Our current best RB.
Tarks- 7 Decent enough today.
Mee- 6 Silly for the pen.
Taylor- 7 Good outlet and has become a decent defender.
Hendrick- 6 1/2 Good game. He could get 8/9s if he made the right decision on the ball. Works very hard and gets in to some great positions, shows good technical ability with his touch and then mostly loses it by keeping hold too long or not playing the right pass.
Westwood- 7 Extra mark for the goal but generally I thought both midfielders were very negative today.
Cork- 6 As above.
McNeil- 6 Maybe trying too hard today.
Wood- 6 Should have done better with the headed chance earlier but did score, plus 1 for the goal.
Rodriguez- 6 Decent game without scoring and maybe allowed us to pass the ball a bit more.
An absolutely massive 3 points, it was also a much better performance. Leicester were poor and I do think we can play better but that's a terrific way to end a bad run.

Re: Burnley v Leicester - Player Ratings
Pope 8* - a couple of questionable handling moment, one in each half, but made a fair few saves including a super save from the penalty, which could define our entire season.
Bardsley 6 - quite generous too. He really limits our ability to play football down the right hand side. He was solid in the last 20 minutes which was important and convinced me to nudge his rating up but he was terribly wasteful with the ball. We need an upgrade here.
Tarkowski 8 - thought it was a very clever defensive display. Had a hold of Vardy all game, dropped off five yards whenever the long ball came. The odd bit of dodgy distribution early on but a really classy defender.
Mee 6 - another weird one to mark. Fantastic leap and header to set up Wood for the first goal, but backed off so far he was sat on the back row of the Jimmy Mc for their goal and an inexplicably stupid bit of defending for the penalty.
Taylor 7 - really good second half, linking up with McNeil like we know he can. Put a few dangerous balls in second half which we’ve been waiting about 2 years for. A critical headed clearance when they would have been through, too.
Hendrick 7 - some nice touches in the first half, which he followed up by wasting the opportunity to run into space. Tucked in a bit too much in the second half which highlighted Bardsley’s flaws but kept going and at the very least they weren’t too much of a threat down their left.
Cork 7 - thought he had a decent game. Yes, he lost the ball for the goal but had no options and he was fouled. He was pressing and harrying in the first half when others to be found wanting. Don’t see the argument that he isn’t good enough, to be honest.
Westwood 6 - another hard one to mark as he scored the winner in one of our biggest wins in years but until about the 70th minute, he was really wasteful pretty much every time he got the ball. Slowed us down far too often in the first half. Better second half, but certainly had better games. Great finish though.
McNeil 6 - flitted in and out of the game but a decent second half where he linked up with Taylor more. One lovely piece of skill to skin Ricardo second half - just wish he had licence to do that more often.
Wood 7 - some really good stuff, some average stuff, but Jonny on the spot to get his goal. Job done.
Rodriguez 7 - pressed and pressed and pressed. Thought he and Cork were the ones who drove that forward in the first half and fortunately more followed suit in the second half.
Really big win. Delighted with the second half. Amazing what a five or six pass move can do...

On the Cork debate - I didn't think he was fouled at the time but I've seen it back and he clearly was. Quite how that goal has been allowed I don't know.

Re: Burnley v Leicester - Player Ratings
It is all about opinions but I thought Jay was brilliant today - much better than Wood and he was so up for the game.
Pope 9 (MoM)- his save at start of second half was better than his penalty save
Bardsley 7 - good game but if we had an attacking right back it would make a massive difference
Mee 6 - beaten too easy for goal and penalty
Tarks 7 - good second half
Taylor 8 - great game - especially second half
Cork 7- fouled for goal definitely. Good second half after struggling first
Westwood 7 - plus 1 for goal as thought he was struggling.
Hendrick 9 - thought he was brilliant today
McNeil 8 - great second half. Love it when he comes into middle too. Very composed and can pick a great pass.
Wood 7 - don’t think he got much change out of their centre backs to be honest
JayRod 8 - played really well both halfs. Good touch and link up play and was also putting some great challenges in. Best game since his return.

It might have helped if Cork or any other player for that matter had complained to the ref. We have just seen united do just that when De Gea made a right balls up and it was over turned.

Seeing it back, I can’t understand why it wasn’t picked up by VAR

You shouldn’t have to complain. There’s someone watching on a screen. That’s their job....
Also, we don’t need to be surrounding refs and complaining so that they do their job

Congratulations!........you found something to moan about........are you forgetting who we were playing?
Are you forgetting how much pressure we were under to get something?

Re: Burnley v Leicester - Player Ratings
Can’t blame the referee for not giving the Cork foul as he sees it once
Watching on TV I did not think it was a foul first time but when it showed it several times during VAR check it was clearly a foul
VAR man at St George’s to blame not Taylor

I thought it was at the time and also now I have seen it on TV, VAR should have ruled it out. Thankfully it didn’t matter.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Jan 19, 2020 4:54 pmOn the Cork debate - I didn't think he was fouled at the time but I've seen it back and he clearly was. Quite how that goal has been allowed I don't know.

Taylor made first mistake, tackle from behind is a foul now whether or not the tackler gets the ball.DAVETHEVICAR wrote: ↑Sun Jan 19, 2020 5:23 pmCan’t blame the referee for not giving the Cork foul as he sees it once

Jayrod never stopped working for the whole 90 mins. His workrate was outstanding.

Re: Burnley v Leicester - Player Ratings
Against a better team, our limitations were obvious but so was a little bit more enterprise than we've shown recently. We got the breaks today, but sometimes you earn the right to ride your luck by showing the right sort of intent.
Pope - 9 - Excellent penalty save and three of four other outstanding saves.
Bardsley - 6 - Defensively sound enough even if Barnes had him worried for pace and backing off at times - including after 20 seconds. His problem though was at the other end, where he didn't give us enough of an option in attack down our right.
Taylor - 7 - A couple of hairy moments, but gave us penetration down the left and although his cross for the winner wasn't pin-point, it was whipped in with enough pace and early enough that the Leicester defence wasn't set. Kudos for growing 2 inches at 1-1 to intercept a crossfield ball on the counter, without which Leicester might have had a walk in.
Tarkowski - 8 - Thought he stood up really well to the challenge and defended intelligently, and a couple of times bravely.
Mee - 6 - Should have done more for the first goal, was covering clumsily for the penalty, but otherwise stuck at it OK.
Cork - 8 - Apart from their goal, very good. Covered well, and crucially stopped Maddison having any space in which to operate. Dwelt on the ball for their goal, but was hampered by the lack of options on the right hand side (i.e. in front of him) and in any event, the replays reveal it to have been a foul.
Westwood - 7 - Battled gamely, without being especially effective - but in the right place for the winner and buried it.
McNeil - 6 - Didn't see a lot of the ball in the first half because Leicester focused on denying him and us space on the left, and should have swapped with Hendrick to have a crack on the right hand side. In the second half Rodriguez' greater influence gave him more opportunity to influence the game and he did OK without being remarkable.
Hendrick - 6 - Much like Bardsley, individually he did fine for the most part, but his limitations were exposed whenever he drove into space and found himself with a defender to beat - it isn't his game and it showed. But that's not really his fault and his workrate and all round contribution was OK, especially once we were holding onto a lead when his defensive diligence was there for all to see.
Rodriguez - 8 - Ok in the first half, when he appeared to be trying to find his role in the team at times and his partnership with Wood seemed a bit clunky, but after half time imposed himself on the game to much greater effect, drifting deeper, linking the play and getting us moving on the front foot, the best example of which was the rat-a-tat-tat exchange of passes which opened up the space for Taylor's cross to set up the winner. Just needs to work on being more of a goal-threat, if we are being critical.
Wood - 7 - Needed to run the right channel more then he did to compensate for the lack of options in that department from Hendrick and Bardsley, but other than that he was tidy enough, and in the right time at the right place for the goal.
First things first - after about 75 minutes today I thought that, whatever the result, no-one could complain about the entertainment on offer. Our limitations were obvious - particularly down our right hand side, which simply didn't work - but we stuck at it, and eventually got our rewards. The first half was notable for our attempts to play a bit more football in our build up play, but also for the hesitancy and lack of confidence when we got into decent areas - too often a promising build up broke down and we resorted to dispatching Rodriguez and Wood into the penalty area and firing up the long diagonal, rather than trying to commit defenders and work space. But whilst Leicester packed a real punch on the counter attack and we had a couple of let offs, their half time lead owed much to a foul on Cork that wasn't given, and then to Mee's inability to make things difficult for Barnes.
We never did solve that conundrum down our right in the second half - Lennon for Hendrick seemed an obvious change long before the game turned our way - but with Rodriguez a greater influence there was promise of a greater understanding between him and McNeil in particular, and also with Wood, all of which blossomed gloriously with the tight exchange down our left which sprung Taylor to cross for the winner. It reaffirmed that we can play more football than we have recently, and we can hurt teams whilst doing so.
Of course, none of this was as signficant in securing the win as three outstanding second-half saves from Pope and some erratic finishing from Leicester. But our enterprise warranted that fortune, and it would be good news even if Leicester had taken the points. There's a blue-print for the next few months here.

Great performance considering. Thought JRod was superb and link midfield and attack well. Head boggler that Dyche has been playing an unfit out of form Barnes ahead of him.

Special mentions for the effort and passion from Bardsley, Jayrod and Hendrick. They left it all out there today.
Pope, that save was the defining moment.
Brilliant. Dyche put the fight back into them and that translated to us overturning a very good Leicester side. Well done all, including the crowd who really ramped it up.
