Simply outstanding

Post by cricketfieldclarets » Wed Jan 22, 2020 10:11 pm

From Pope right through.

Mention for Lowton who came in and has not been at it lately. But everyone of them stood up.

We made United look distinctly average.

But best of all two amazing finishes that deserve to win any game.

And Dyche. Well done that man. Stuck with it. Two games with no subs needed because every player was bang at it.

Proud to be a claret.

As bad as I’ve ever seen Utd but we played a part in that!

Who’d have thought we’d beat 3rd & 5th after that Villa result! I honestly didn’t think we had this performance in us anymore! Never doubt Dyche!

That was brilliant tonight. Much more positive and the desire was there from the players and it was great to see. I criticised dyche and the players these past few weeks (and rightly so because some of them performances wasn't acceptable) but Sean Dyche and his staff and players deserve tremendous amount of credit tonight. That's the Burnley we know and love. Brilliant night. Up the Clarets.

It's a funny old game.

Only 28% possession and 2 attempts on target?

Time for Dyche to go.

Personally thought we were very lucky against Leicester (though you earn your luck) but not tonight.

Dyche has been lacking three things many times this season - creativity, tempo and error free performances.

Two huge wins against the top five have changed it all around and it has been due to a better tempo and a lack of errors.

Now, we have Arsenal coming up and following that we will have played 5 of the “big 8” home and away (I include Leicester and Everton). We are currently 4 points off Europe, again (and 3 spots to potentially play for). You have to say that is possible with our run in, IF we beat Arsenal first.

I think there are big issues to be solved at the club but we can also be optimistic, there are some big problems (not least recruitment) but it isn’t all bad, not by a long chalk.

Superb team performance with every player playing his part, including the much maligned Hendrick! We road our luck a bit early doors, however, take nothing away from the lads and their desire to do well for the club and this was all shown at the end of the match with their comradeship.
What a great night to be a Clarets fan!
Well done to Jon Moss who also gets a lot of stick ---he was good tonight!

Probably our best executed game plan under Dyche.
No mistakes, no let up, no loss of concentration.

Back to our best!!!

What I noticed in last 2 games is we are starting to block nearly every shot on edge of box again.
We are getting something in the way of crosses again.
Looks like we have got it together in time again.
Happy days.well done boys

Something has happened or been said between half time against Leicester or before tonight’s match. In the first half we looked different. Everyone was on it and we didn’t look remotely phased or intimidated by Man Utd. Players like Taylor Jay Rod and Wood just looked so confident. Great team performance. Sat with some desperate Msn Utd fans at the end . Wonderful stuff.

That was a great performance. Well played everyone.

Jay was immense. Ran all match and closed down loads.

I noticed two other changes since we started winning:
1. We are prepared to fall over when tapped. We might as well since teams have been doing it to us all season.
2. We are committing men forwards, even when winning. This is new for Burnley.

Given what happened last season I was never sitting comfortably, but the truth is that after a slightly grim scarum first 20 minutes, we controlled the game utterly. We pressed bravely, used the ball smartly and got up the pitch, and defended with our lives on the relatively rare occasions that we had to. Superb performances all over the pitch but I thought the midfield two were absolutely phenomenal.

After we went two up the biggest threat to a Burnley victory was the fog.

I was fortunate enough to be at WHL in 1983 (frightening to think where the years have gone!) = I'm struggling to think of a better away performance against top-class opposition since then.

Truly magnificent.

Lucky enough to get treated to meal before the game and great seats among the Utd fans, bounced out of my seat when Jay scored...much to the annoyance of many.

That was as good as I have ever seen, Corky, Jeff, Lowts all deserve special mention...all taken some stick...but that was as good as I've seen from all three.

The rest...just brilliant

F'kin hilarious watching UTD try to build up from the back for 90 minutes like they're City but doing everything humanly possible to avoid involving Phil Jones in it. Not without good reason, obviously. Maguire and their left back were the only outlets against our lads who were pressing at times with three men. Playing tiki taka with AWB hiding behind Jones and only half a defence willing to receive the ball. Bloody genius management by Ole, that. Bad as we can be to watch at times, that's some food for thought for when some of our fans get itchy trigger fingers over Dyche during a bad run. We play to our strengths, UTD haven't a clue what theirs are. No wonder Rashford broke his back carrying that lot. Not putting us down, mind. You can only play against the poo in front of you. Amazing performance, amazing goal from Jay, amazing result. Complete performance that made the match feel genuinely comfortable.

Couldn't watch the game live today, was relying on nerve-jangling updates from my son, have been soaking up the highlights and reports/reactions for a while now. Fantastic feeling, miles can't dim the passion for the Clarets, so proud to be a Claret tonight. Hopefully these last two results can really restore our self-belief and set us up for a good points haul in the remaining games. UTC.

I genuinely haven't read a single person saying we should go tiki taka. The second goal today was perfect from us, nice first time ball from Westwood, first time lay off from Jay, first time lay off to jay and boom. I said it in another thread, nothing moves faster than the ball and footy is a game of triangles - we perfected it tonight with our second goal

Nobody is asking for tiki taka, Vegas. Some folks (very, very small vocal minority) want Dyche potted at various stages of every single season, for the style we play. Those people are a bit loopy and most other folks just want to see a few completed passes to break up the boredom that comes with bad form, but you can't deny that at even at our worst there's method to that turgid, attritional madness that you don't see in Ole's UTD-sans Rashford and...I can't believe I'm saying this...Pogba.

I suspect I'm one of the biggest critics of our style of play tbh. But I'm also one of the first to shout from the rooftops when we get it right (in my opinion) like we have done over the last 2 games - especially the 2nd goal tonight - utter perfection, said it on another thread, if that's at the other end and scored by a Rashford it's on repeat on Sky for a week, brilliant one touch quick triangles.

Absolutely outstanding tonight and all I want to see from Burnley #fucktikataka !
