Are we seriously selling Ben Gibson and relying on this joker as back up
Re: Kevin Long
The players whove come in today arent good enuf
Re: Kevin Long
He's been awful to be fair, tarky has had to pull both him an Peiters out if the sh1t more than once.
Thankfully he plays few and far between.
It could genuinely be 5 to Norwich

Long is normally a fairly dependable stand in.
He’s been poor today, though.

Don’t let that get in the way of a thread slagging off a player that’s barely played for about a year
Now if you’d said Brady....

Re: Kevin Long
Long has never let us down in the past. He was shocking today though and it highlighted how very good Ben Mee is.

To be fair he’s got the worst two full backs in the top flight alongside him,it can’t help.

Classic overreaction. Looked poor today can't think of many times he's done that before in his limited match time.

Re: Kevin Long
Long has never been good enough, even in the Championship. Surely we can get someone better as an adequate reserve. Needs to go in the summer.
Re: Kevin Long
Normally a right side centre back. That must upset the rhythm.

Re: Kevin Long
We’ve got Gibson and Mee, not a problem with him playing the odd game, if we aren’t going to try to win a cup match you can’t blame him for being chosen.

Re: Kevin Long
The whole back 4 looked anxious right from the KO,what's more worrying is our 1st choice midfield were outplayed by a 2nd string from a club which is propping up the PL.
Let's hope this is only a blip, and not a sign of things to come in the rest of the season. For some reason no matter which XI we pick for cup games the intensity is missing compared to a PL match,i have to say those who decided to stay away today were sadly fully vindicated.
Oh! well i suppose if we beat the Gunners next week today will soon be forgotten, expectations are low in cups anyway these days.

Re: Kevin Long
Yes, he had a poor game, but don't just blame him.
Rodriguez missed an absolute sitter first few minutes.
That goes in, we've got a head start early doors
Awful finish, straight at the keeper.
Got to put those away, just as much as being better defensively.

Re: Kevin Long
Tbh it can’t be easy to play football at that level when you play one game every month or even less in Kevin’s case....
Re: Kevin Long
Of course you let Gibson go - and use that money on someone for the starting XI. Given our finances, what's the point of spending record money on a back up who never plays?Burnleymik:

We need that money for someone who can impact the starting team. That means we have to deal with back ups like Long (who, to be fair has always done well in the past) and hope the starters are not injured / suspended for too long.

You do realise that any incomings have to be as good, but preferably better than we already have, right?

Re: Kevin Long
The problem is quite clearly that we spend 18m on someone who cannot dislodge the 2 centre backs so how much do we need to pay for someone who can...you must be talking 30m + and we ain’t going to be paying that for a defender

Re: Kevin Long
When describing Long there is a major difference between "dependable" and "Premier quality"
Just look at the level of defenders on the bench at teams like Watford, Southampton,Brighton, even Norwich
Hopefully there is a positive and reality from today about some of our fringe players-with 5 days to go lets cash in if we can on some of them like Vydra (even less likely to start after today), Wells, Kevin Long, Lennon, Brady and Hart. This club is not structured to carry passengers. Lets see if we can free up wages to bring in some fresh faces that can make an impact

Re: Kevin Long
That is very harsh. Hes been quality for the vast amount of games hes had to step in to fill a gap. You cant expect someone to perform at his best every time when he gets so little 1st team minutes. Great dependable squad player.
To say he's not good enough for the championship is nonsense

Re: Kevin Long
The thing with Long is that he’s getting by on training and behind closed doors friendlies alone.
It can’t be easy playing so little competitive football over a period that can be measured in years and then coming in and playing against players who are match sharp.
His choice of course, but it’d actually be hugely impressive for him to come in and play with real confidence.

Poor today. Barring injuries/suspensions the next time we see him will be September. Just seems an odd way to go about things if the aim is to progress.

The club aren't pleading poverty. We'd all love a signing or two, but as already stated, they have to be better than players who currently occupy those positions.
Players like that do cost plenty of money, unless you are very lucky and land the mother of all bargains, but it's not the same as pleading poverty, just the reality of the situation.

Fair play, all I see on sky sports is Dyche “don’t know if we have any money to spend” and Garlick banging on about the market being unaffordable, to me that smacks of we can’t afford to buy = pleading poverty.fidelcastro wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2020 7:12 pmYou asked me a question. I would expect Dyche to sell some of the perennial bench warmers and buy someone that’s actually going to challenge the first team.
Obv better players are going to be expensive, the market is only going one way

Re: Kevin Long
I'd say in the Prem, if Tarks or Mee get an injury we need someone better than Long as a stand in. If Gibson goes would we spend that money on a replacement? Given the other areas of the squad seem in greater need of strengthening, I can't see them getting someone in.Lord_Bob wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2020 5:27 pmOf course you let Gibson go - and use that money on someone for the starting XI. to be fair as a right sided player he works better with ben mee, what today shows is that he struggles when paired with tarky as there both natural right sided players
