Another great gesture
Another great gesture
This time Tottenham, subsidising coach travel for fans to £10 for their trip here.
Anyone clarers living down there, could come up with them, cheap as chips. Better than driving/train etc at that price
A few various pick up points.

Re: Another great gesture
Interesting and a good gesture indeed, especially as they generally travel in large numbers anyway. Having said that I can't agree that spending hours on a coach with a bunch of Spurs fans is very enticing whatever the cost-saving (especially if they beat us on the day) so I think I'll drive as usual !

Tottenham always do it if a game moves and they can't get back to London by train. Was it last year or the year before they put on free travel to Burnley.

Still a hell of a lot cheaper though to watch Burnley over a season - have you seen how much Spurs charge admission for home games?

Re: Another great gesture
I'm assuming that these are the standard pickup points but I wonder why they're all in really awkward places to get to.
It prompted me to look at Arsenal which do have coaches going from the ground but also randomly have coaches going from Gillingham.

Cat A - £52 to £98
Cat B - £43 to £95
Cat C - £30 to £80
and those are per game!
No wonder they can afford to subsidise coaches!

Re: Another great gesture
The price of football is generally scandalous. Clubs earning literally hundreds of millions charging fans so much when they know full well a large proportion of those can barely make ends meet each month.
So a nice gesture by Spurs here, yes, but perhaps it might be more generous if they revise their match day prices along with every other club.

Southampton v spurs Saturday and Southampton set the tickets at £10 for adults
Spurs for the replay have decided £25 is fairer for adults. Maybe that’s how they are funding the coach travel.
You can imagine the comments had we been spurs doing that after being charged £10 for the original tie .. top gesture

The lager down at Spurs was cheaper than what you'd pay in a London pub. Think it was Amstel as well, so better than the usual Carlsberg, Fosters or Carling that's normally on offer at footy.

As for "the greatest city on earth", I went there earlier in the year for the American football, and walked from Seven Sisters tube station to the ground. And if you honestly think that that place is anything like "the greatest city on earth", then you have different ideas of greatness to me.

You aren’t meant to here. But it’s a little more lax when checking. Both on entry to stadium and again to seat. Hence bottles being thrown a regular thing in the away end. Newcastle and Hannover two obvious examples.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2020 8:07 pmI take my own in and a bottle of water. You’re not able to at Spurs.
At a modern stadium, at a more high profile venue and city it’s a good job they do have the checks they do in place.
Especially after MEN arena and Stade De France etc. Sad reality of the modern world.

But there is a reason why London is the most visited ‘western‘ city in the world ahead of Paris, New York, Rome, Amsterdam, Berlin, Sydney, Los Angeles, Barcelona... and most expensive to live in as well as being home to some of the best free museums in the world, best restaurants, bars, entertainment, sport, parks... the list is endless.
It’s not for everyone. But it’s universally known as the best city on earth whether you agree or not.

Tottenham play in the greatest city like Burnley play in the most beautiful countryside. When people do talk about London being the greatest city in the world (though I'm by no means sure that everyone thinks so) they aren't referring to the White Hart Lane area. So it is a universal decision amongst inhabitants and visitors that London is the greatest place on earth? Wow! Didn't know that.cricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2020 11:07 pmProbably the 9 million and rising number that live there and the 20+ million that visit every year.
Re: Another great gesture
That doesn’t make it the best though does it? The population of New York is pretty similar. In far less space. Londons close proximity to the rest of europe and the world always plays a pretty big part. London is closer (just) to Tokyo for example. It’s closer to Australia. The worlds richest countries are closer to London.cricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2020 11:07 pmProbably the 9 million and rising number that live there and the 20+ million that visit every year.

The price of 2 adults in the Family stand behind the goal at Tottenham is just short of £2,200. For that money at Burnley, you could have mother, father, all four grandparents, 1 student, 2 teenagers, 2 10-12 year olds, and 6 under 10s. 17 for the price of two. Yes, at Spurs they see a load of players who are not only much higher paid than ours but also have 34 points this season to our 30; yes, you are in a boghole of a surrounding area but are only 20 minutes on a crowded tube from Liverpool Street; and yes, you get a discounted bus price to places like Burnley. Still not convinced of the value for money, though.
