West Ham
Latest published accounts show a pre tax loss of over £28 million. Extra expenditure on players and
upgrading their training facilities are being cited as the reason for that.
More worringly for them, a statement accompanying the accounts says " it is absolutely imperative that the club stay
in the Premier League to avoid the grave financial implications that would follow such an event."
WHU have spent £214 million on players over the last four years. Karren Bradys salary has risen from
£898,000 to £1.136 million.

Re: West Ham
David Gold and David Sullivan (financial year ending 31 May 2019) were paid £2.9 million
in interest for their loans to the club. They still have unsecured loans of £45 million in WHU.
A further million quid was paid out to GGI international, a company connected to Gold, in
respect of a partial repayment of loan capital.
Manuel Pellegrini was paid £7 million a year.

Some people would not liked us to go down the same route but would just like us to sign a central midfielder and a right back under 30. Hardly the same thing.

Re: West Ham
Norwich, Bournemouth, Villa the bookies favourites for the drop.
West Ham have, on paper, a decent finish to the season, so will depend on how they do with the above games. You'd think they'll need around 5 more wins to stay up from their remaining 15 games. Still very much doable.
Re: West Ham
Wow, someone that sees there is a middle ground ( your wish is probably no where near even the middle in reality )
Welcome, it seems we are few and far between.
I keep seeing total extremes like, progress in the cup means relegation, spend some money and we will be doing a Bolton in no time and any outside investment means the death of the club...

I have been saying for quite a while now even when they were placed above us they were in trouble...I always felt we were ok with SD...the west ham fans were never happy with any managerial appointment for long in the main.which resulted in panic buying and gambling the ranch to appease them.including the "graham souness" type signing of Sanchez.. and they didnt want Leyton orient involved in the shiny stadium..careful what you wish for is the case here...

Re: West Ham
As much as I would love that awful football club to go down Steve I don't feel they will. They find the escape route one way or another. Having said that it's happened often enough before. I don't even know for sure why I hate them so much. I think it's because they have always somehow been the darlings of the media (outside the big 6) despite the fact that they have a trophy haul not dissimilar to ours (okay some succes in Europe but never been English champions). And fans that are arguably the most 'entitled' around. They actually believe they are a 'massive' club, whereas I don't know if they are the biggest little club in the country or the smallest big club. Or just sh!te.
Anyway we live and hope and the fixtures don't look too clever (but they do seem to have a knack for pulling off the odd shock win).

Re: West Ham
Pellegrini proved a bargain.
Re: West Ham
I’d love West Ham to go down purely because of the fact they secured one of the most corrupt deals ever in buying that new ground.
The financial advantage they gained from this and the additional uplift in gate receipts gave them a clear unfair advantage.
I dislike Sullivan and Gold immensely and the fact that Karen Brady is happy to work for these 2 tells you all you need to know about her.
The only good thing is that between the 3 of them they are clueless in appointing their managers and they have managed to waste all that additional revenue from the new stadium on ridiculous signings....I can’t think of another club in the league who have made as many bad transfers as West Ham in the last few years.
Their wage bill went up from £106m to £135m !
They gave Jack Wiltshire a 3 year contract of £5m a year. We know they gave Snodgrass £75k a week and Andy Carroll was there for 4 years on £5m a year too.
The only person I feel sorry for is Mark Noble - he’s a great bloke and loves the club. He’s been an excellent loyal player for them - would have loved him to come to Burnley. Heard him on the radio after the West Brom defeat and he is absolutely gutted at what is happening at the club.

Re: West Ham
The most interesting question around West Ham is who made the £20m between the selling price of Upton Park to a Developer and the subsequent sale to another developer - no one seems to know - that is what the missing money is about - many suspect the first company was a front for the owners - no one can prove it

For me its like this too - other half has a work colleague who is a ST holder at West Ham, and has been for years and when I spoke to him a few months back just before we played them and we talked footy and I said that I was going to the game - he said "what game?" and "who do you support?" when I told him it was Burnley he then genuinely asked "yeah, I like Burnley - what league are they in naaaa...?" I thoroughly enjoyed our chat the week after we'd beaten them 3-0 - he knew what league we were in then

Re: West Ham
Wouldn't be at all surprised if West Ham went down, they have a history of Premier league relegation.
They are by far the worse side I have seen on the Turf this season. I look at the side and bar Noble they look to have little spirit, their only salvation is that they have a lot of London derbies, they seem to lift their game for these matches
Relegation would be a financial killer for them with their massive wage bill. Their outstanding debt on transfer fees is in the region of 87 million with 17 million owed to them. Wouldn't be surprised if the present squad don't have any relegation clauses written into their contracts, with some, if not all on 4 year contracts.

Re: West Ham
It’s clearly unfair to make out people want us to be run like West Ham. But when we’re in a bad run some of the decisions made by West Ham are the kinds of decisions our fans would make given the chance. Football not good enough, let’s go out and employ a guy who managed Man City to the PL title playing attractive football. Players aren’t good enough, let’s go out and pay the going rate to bring in someone asap. A right back and midfielder under 30 mentioned above. Players who should be good enough to walk into the first team are going to be in the region of £20m each. I know there are bargains out there, but that relies on playing the long game and not making signings asap. So a cool £40m plus wages, plus agents fees. Suddenly our balance sheet is not looking great. An even if it’s still positive, it would be much closer to break even. West Ham show us that there’s no guarantees, so we can’t just expect that signings will work out. They could end up being an albatross around our neck which is how some people see Gibson and Vydra.
So of course you try and strike a middle ground. Isn’t that what we do though? Surely the reality is that the middle ground is in itself being prudent because of the spending power of our rivals. The fact that it’s so bloody hard is why we see quiet transfer windows. As with anything like this, it doesn’t mean our strategy is perfect, but as I said to a mate of mine who’s hyper-critical, the success of our transfer strategy and recruits is measured at full time after the last game of the season. Yet again we’re on course for a successful season, and you’d have to go back to 2013 to find a genuinely disappointing one. That’s not to say we can’t aspire for more, it just means you don’t try and fix something that’s not broken. West Ham shouldn’t be used as a stick to beat critics with, but it should be used to highlight how well we continue to do and how changing the strategy to spend more money is not the answer on its own and comes with huge risks.

Re: West Ham
while the fixtures look daunting I would say ours did to very recently but those two wins made a very big difference to our outlook and league position, I think they will escape relegation. They beat Chelsea in Nov, plus the horrible run they had was mainly put down to the GK change, I know the GK who MP brought in and let in so many goals has now been shipped out on loan. They have been very poor but seem a different team since DM came in, yet last match was awful.
I wouldn't write them off yet, but agree very difficult fixture list coming and that will provide a good indication after the run of matches list above, including the Chelsea one.

Re: West Ham
Many of the clubs which not only bet the ranch, but find themselves now owing the ranch, the outbuildings and all the surrounding land as security on their massive debts, tend to have something in common. They swap and change managers far, far too easily. This not only means loads of compo to the sacked managers (and accompanying backroom staff) but improved contracts to the new team AND (more tellingly) a host of new signings which the new guy promptly targets, signs for big money, puts on long term deals and yet are pretty quickly superfluous to requirements when he's sacked and someone else comes in. (Who then simply buys MORE players!)
Re: West Ham
Feel a bit sorry for their real fans. They never wanted to leave Upton Park as they knew moving to the horrible, soulless bowl that is the Olympic stadium would rip their heart out of the club, and they've been proved right.

Of the games listed, only Brighton is a good game for them, and even that's not a gimme. They could end up needing to win half their last 8 games.FactualFrank wrote: ↑Tue Jan 28, 2020 10:57 amNorwich, Bournemouth, Villa the bookies favourites for the drop.
