Sheff Utd
Chris Wilder and his team. Take a bow. What an incredible effort. Today’s victory probably sees them safe.
But more than that with the belief they have who knows where they could finish.
Now fifth and they don’t look like stopping. They remind me of us under Coyle with the confidence and lack of respect they have for anyone they face.
I thought when wilder laid into the keeper after the Liverpool defeat in September it would unravel them. But far from it. Shows the high standards he sets and the belief he has in his players.
If they finish where they are now or higher has to be one of footballs true fairy tales. Sheff Utd fan taking over at league one level after the struggles they had and then the ched Evans saga. He’s done an unbelievable job.
I was never fond of Sheff Utd but credit to them all. Brilliant for them.

I’ve had a soft spot for them after they were relegated by the ManU/WHU/Tevez stitch up.

Re: Sheff Utd
Something about rich foreign owners, lots of debt, FFP, Leeds/ Portsmouth/ Bolton, they didn't pay for their own stadium etc etc
Now we've got that out of the way, yes it's been a fabulous season for Sheff Utd. Way beyond anybody's expectations. Their manager is their greatest asset. A unique formation with some innovative tactical ideas. All with lower league players too. He's now earning the right to take things forward now with the acquisition of some more expensive players. Their board appear to want to back him.
They have been a welcome addition to the PL.

I don't see them as one season wonders.
Sure, they have more money than us and that will be a significant reason why they'll finish above us, but they're no heavyweights compared to teams who I think will finish below them.

Doing very well, also taking advantage of half the 'big six' stuttering. After 25 games last season, 5th place had 48 points.

Having a great season and showing that less talented players who are well coached and disciplined can outperform teams of ‘superstars’. Hard not to respect that as a Burnley fan.

Makes me laugh. Every time some team does well ‘ah but they’ve got rich owners’ ‘ah but they didn’t do this and did do that’
Credit where it’s due.
As for rich owners. Until this window they’ve barely spent much anyway.
They’ve spent less than pretty much every team below them.

If we win tomorrow we’re only 3 points behind them... they’re doing well but it’s nothing out the ordinary. As others have said, it’s a strange season with many teams struggling, we could be above them in less than a month. Nothing remarkable about their points tally.

Like I say, Liverpool have drawn 1 game and won all the rest. This is a major reason why it's so close between the majority of the rest. We're all losing points to them.PremierLeagueClass wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2020 8:49 pmIf we win tomorrow we’re only 3 points behind them... they’re doing well but it’s nothing out the ordinary. Re: Sheff Utd
Burnley spent around £40m in the 16/17 season so with the way transfer fees have rocketed the last 3 years Sheff Utd havent spent much more than usJohn Johnson 1605 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2020 8:40 pmMedia Darlings, even more so now Howe’s crown has slipped.

Then consider how they have come from League 1 and hardly spent owt in the last 3 years compared to Burnley being in the Prem League and how much we spent
And with all that Sheff Utd are challenging for Europe playing great football whilst we battled our way to survival
Considering we rightly though Dyche keeping us up was one hell of an achievement I think Wilder has earned all the plaudits and its no wonder the media are gushing with deserved praise for the team and club

I was thinking this recently. I think it's because they are playing so much better football, that we subconsciously think they are so much better than us and are so far ahead. Yet, like you say, with points there's not much between us at all.Bordeauxclaret wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2020 8:57 pmHaving an unbelievable season.

Not sure why there's some ill-feeling towards The Blades displayed here. It's nice to see an unfancied team doing well & Sheffield is a proper football city with minimal "plastics" supporting either club. Obviously experiences differ but I had no problems with their fans at the play-off final.
Hope they continue to upset the league positions of the likes of Man U, Spuds & Everton. Hope we beat them 11th April though.

Didn't know about "a stabbing at our place" but I remember seeing a Claret who had been stabbed at their place in the late 70s. No segregation in them days and remember it kicking off at HT under the stand.

Re: Sheff Utd
I was singing Wilder's and the team's praises on here a few weeks ago and got shot down.I know they have spent more in the past month but generally a team of lower league players. I think its fantastic for British football and the PL that we have teams like Sheffield do well. Let Pep Guardiola manage sides like ourselves and Sheffield and keep them up in the PL with those clubs' budget. I know not everyone is a fan of Wilder and their fans but this Sheffield team are teaching a few other teams how to tackle the giants and beat them. For the cynics on this site if they keep Wilder it will not be a one season wonder

Hope they do well and if their success means it puts United, Arsenal etc out of the top 4/6 then all the more for it.
I see some of the mentions about their fans at Wembley, but each club have their fair share of idiots, like some of our "fans" wouldn't have done the same thing after the game if the result wasn't the other way round.

Got no time for them , got attacked in the late 70s fortunately I had my brothers and cousins with me , and totally classless at Wembley, although they disappeared quickly after the final whistle.

Every other week we have a thread about them. I think they will still finish bottom half and below us for what it’s worth.
They have done well but they are absolutely nothing like us under Coyle. That’s a ridiculous comparison as they have already achieved far more than we did under Coyle.

I don't agree, very lucky today with the goal & other occasions lucky but at the same time worked hard & well a spirited side who never give up, we'll see next season nobody can say 100% what will happen in the future. It's pointless arguing now 12 mths on & longer 1 of us will be right, it's good to not agree in some ways.FactualFrank wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2020 10:38 pmI don't think that will be the case at all. In my opinion it is important not to allow past fan scraps to obscure the fact that at the present time Sheffield Utd are going very well under an innovative and somewhat underrated manager.
