Re: Kirk Douglas dies
Possibly the best War film ever made starred Kirk Douglas "Paths of Glory" by Stanley Kubrik ...

Sad to hear - "The Vikings" was the first film I ever saw at the cinema; "Lonely are the Brave" one of my favourite westers; "Ace in the Hole" one of the best newspaper/journalism movies ever.

If my memory serves me well it was in the Vikings that Kirk Douglas's character that he played had his eye clawed out by an eagle I think it was

RIP Issur Danielovitch Demsky. One of my favourite actors from the glory days of Hollywood. I think my favourite film of his was "Lust for Life", in which he gave a fantastic portrayal of the life of Vincent Van Gogh, a role for which most people thought he should have won the Acadamy Award. Truly one of the acting greats.

One of the last stars from the 50s and 60s to go.
"Paths of Glory" is one of the best (anti) war films ever made and one of Kubrick's greatest.
As mentioned by Cajun, "Ace in the Hole" is a very strong film which was ahead of its time in depicting the cynicism of the media.
I watched "Seven Days In May" recently (for the first time). Highly recommended.
My Dad was a great KD fan and he'd be sad today.

Great actor but sounds like he was quite an unsavory character in his private life
