Negative thread
Not really.
I’d just like those negative posters who want Dyche out or the board out to have a look at the league table. Every season we have a rocky patch and every season they come on here bleating. He always turns it around.
The biggest plus yesterday was the genuine joy amongst the players. He talks about their togetherness and people switch off but it was there for all to see.
Onwards and upwards.

Re: Negative thread
The current upturn in form hasn’t convinced me to return to the Turf, just yet. I am pleased that we are now through this rocky patch and look like securing a fifth successive season in the Top Fight for the first time since the ‘60s, but I will remain an armchair supporter for the foreseeable future.

I really thought we had outlasted our time in this league this season and we still have someway to go. We were poor in those games from Palace until the Leicester game but have yet again, for now, turned another corner and that seems to be since Jay started and Barnes was left out. Maybe his dip in form before going off for surgery was due to him playing when not fit enough.
Avoid defeat against Bournemouth and Newcastle and the future for another season looks good. I hope Vydra can bag a couple this Saturday as that could further improve his confidence. Looked to be really buzzing after the game, out grinning any Cheshire cat IMO

I will never stop going on having had a ST since MY CLUB,MY CLUB, nearly went out of existence. Impossible not to watch them these days in the Prem League as we all know it will not last and if anyone wants to see dire football, I have a video of the Orient game and we played better that game than most of that season. If anyone needs to see ante football watch those days re-runs and the Waddle year and Stan's first season

There really are some super perverse key board warriors on this site - seem to trawl the messages to put their cheap efforts of humour/vitriol followed by endless abusive recourse that, actually, has nothing to do with the original message. For the rest of us this is just a total bore.
No doubt some supreme ‘wit’ will have a ‘brilliantly’ constructed comment to my thought - hey-ho.

I only ask because if you went on regularly in the 80’s say, but now we are operating at a level many of us thought impossible back then, you now choose not to go because you don’t like the style, I find that a little odd.

Where did I say I didn’t like the style? I think what Dyche has done at Burnley is incredible; make no mistake about it. Is he beyond reproach? Certainly not. Am I interested in attending regular home matches? Not as much as I used to be. Treading water in the Prem has lost its sparkle. The chase was better than the capture. I’ll do other things with my weekends and watch from afar.bobinho wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2020 11:01 amFor how long have you not been going on Beamish?

Re: Negative thread
I think the jury is still out for me in terms of the future of the club.
Yes we have had an up turn in form and it's been good to see some very good wins against teams I expected nothing from. I also think the manager and board have worked wonders from the limited resources we have. We have spent wisely and been very prudent etc. So none of this is really about them as such. It's about football in general.
- We are probably 3 years from struggling if we go down
- We appear inept within the transfer markets
- VAR - Im an advocate of it in principle but it's sucking the little excitement we get. Can't properly celebrate
- The game and resources of other clubs are moving on faster than we can keep up with
- I can't get excited about fighting for survival year in and year out.
Yes, it's better to be struggling in the Premier League than in the Championship or lower and yes many teams would gladly be where we are now.
I never thought I would see us play in the Europa League and Premier League so try to appreciate what we have but I remember the days where I used to wake up and be excited at the fact that it was a match day and the day was all aimed around the game. Yesterday, I nearly missed the game on TV because it was by chance, I was flicking through the TV guide to see what other sports were on when I noticed we were on BT and it was a lunchtime kick off.
Those that made the trip yesterday have my utmost respect.

Re: Negative thread
I can understand that Beamish and I know Ashingtonclaret is in two minds about renewing his ST and you do not get a more fervent supporter of the lads than Ash. His gripe is about VAR which gets on his proverbials.
There has always been a conflict in my support vis a vis do I prefer winning in a lower league and doing well or losing in a higher league and not doing well. At this level it has to be the latter for now but you will not be alone the way you think and the longer we hang on in this league the less attractive it will be for many.
For me still, having been at Maine Road in 60 and the Turf for the Orient game, I prefer where we are. In 1992 the idea of us playing in the Prem League was something that I never ever thought would come to pass and the resurgence under Dyche-well that was never going to happen as the Board yet again in October 2012 had gone for mediocrity.

Re: Negative thread
I started watching the Clarets in 1980. I’ve seen highs and many lows. I’ve taken that as the lot of the fan of a small club that’s best days are behind it.
I’ve followed us home and away and shared triumphs and disappointments with my fellow fans.
Our ride under Dyche in the past few years has been incredible. The season we finished 7th and qualified for Europe was Fan Ecstasy for me. It also carried a sad message. It was when I think we hit a glass ceiling. We were never going to get any higher than this, and entropy was our only real fate from here on in.
It was then that I realised that my journey with the Clarets may not be a continual one. It may be one with a clear end. I reckon that 7th place finish was the beginning of the end.

Re: Negative thread
I've certainly had enough of it all at certain points within the season. For me, I've got absolutely no interest in seeing us play against Liverpool and Man City etc, watching teams walk all over us for 90 minutes because they're able to spend 10 and 20 times more than us in wages and fees. Of course you get the odd game where we defy the odds, but they're few and far between because that's how the PL wants it to be.
What I prefer are even games where both sides have a strong chance of winning, games which are competitive and hard fought. There have been times this season where I've not even enjoyed those though due to the terrible football we served up in them. However, when I reflect properly and not emotionally straight after a game, I realise I'm very proud of what we've achieved, and games like the one against Leicester last month remind me of why I love supporting Burnley. I'm so pleased we look to have secured a fifth season actually, and I hope we continue to evolve our team and continue to implement a more attractive style like we've seen over the last 4 games.

Excitement in football has always been about the ball hitting the back of the net. Added to that, I will always feel a tingle, echoing back to the ‘8 year old me’ when I see the claret & blue - I’ve no ancestral or geographical links with Burnley, so to get a bubble gum card with Frank Casper was just like Christmas to me. To see us fighting, against the odds, with the big boys, takes me back to Elland Road in March 1974. I love it, love it, love it. You doubters can jump off the nearest bridge as far as I’m concerned - please do one.

I am completely with you in these sentiments, mdd2, as you know, however, the VAR aspect was my big gripe but it got me thinking about the game in general at the top level and the way that it is going. Nothing at all to do with the Clarets because I appreciate the way that we play and that this how we survive at this level.mdd2 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2020 11:20 amI can understand that Beamish and I know Ashingtonclaret is in two minds about renewing his ST and you do not get a more fervent supporter of the lads than Ash. Looking at yesterday's game at Southampton, had the referee given a penalty against Ben Mee and they had scored from it resulting in the game being drawn, I would have accepted that as part of the game I have followed for 68 seasons. However, had a penalty been given by VAR I would have found it difficult to accept, particularly as they seem to be using different criteria at PL level.
In addition to this, we see players falling to the floor with minimal contact made, holding their faces after being lightly touched in the chest or somewhere else below their head and all with the intention of conning the officials etc. Players are being penalised for cracking tackles and also receiving cautions for endangering their opponent, what ever that means! The game is becoming very sterile at PL level and my thoughts are that it will continue to do so as more and more measures are introduced by FIFA.
Possibly, if I lived 100 miles nearer to the Turf than I do, I would continue to attend, however, the 300 miles round trip to watch a game which could be decided by someone looking at a monitor some 230 miles away from the ground is starting to wear thin ---in spite of the excellent company of the gentlemen who I sit with at the ground!

Strange how, seeing as you associate people losing interest with the football team you mutually support with them being depressed, you tell them to go and jump off a bridge. In these days of heightened awareness of Mental Health Issues, that’s not a very enlightened attitude to take.jackmiggins wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2020 11:34 amYou doubters can jump off the nearest bridge as far as I’m concerned - please do one.

I don’t mean by listing what you considered were bad buys but in comparison to others
What I mean is, which PL Clubs have done better than us in the transfer market? If you can suggest 9 or 10 then we are average. I would expect inept to exceed 15

Maybe your perception of our standing is a little skewed though. Obviously our main aim is to avoid relegation, which in itself may be hard to get enthused about - but the reality is that we have survived very comfortably now for 4 consecutive seasons. Obviously each season has been a relegation fight to a point but we haven’t come even close to losing our place in the division.clarethomer wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2020 11:18 amI think the jury is still out for me in terms of the future of the club.

It’s easy to forget that if we were in the more level playing field of the Championship we could easily be a Huddersfield Town and be in a relegation fight in the division below. Obviously for many Championship clubs there is the hope of a play off place but equally in the current Premier League a European place is achievable for clubs like ours.
Sometimes clubs need a relegation to re-enthuse the fans but then it is the hope of promotion back to the very place where they lost the enthusiasm that gets the fans back on board.
Being a middling Premier League side isn’t the most exciting but I know that I will look back on this period in years to come and want it back.

Excellent point when you see the squillions that other clubs have wasted on total dross. We have had guys who haven’t worked out but none have cost us the sort of money others have tossed off. Even Gibson has been worth having as our emergency reserve. You don’t get far without backup.Down_Rover wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2020 12:14 pmThat has been said by many? How do you measure that?

Positive Thought
Vydra's slide into Aaron Lennon's outstretched arms showed how the squad players feel part of the whole - as they should.

Ask fans of Bradford City, currently playing in the 4th tier of English football or Bolton, Portsmouth, Sunderland, Ipswich, Blackpool, Coventry, all now in the 3rd tier of English football, whether relegation has re-enthused them!

Like anything in life following a football club can range from refusal to condemn anything to insistence on condemning everything.
Personally I find people on both those extremes to be pathetic and not really worth engaging with.
Whereas a blend of loyalty, constructive criticism and support will work just fine. Both Dyche and the board have good and bad performance elements, but more good than bad in my view. We can mention the bad as long as we also mention the good. That’s where excellence comes from.

It is all relative
Arsenal hounded out Wenger, mourinho was sacked at Manure and Potch was not good enough for Spurs. Those who see fit to criticise the board and manager of this club have set the bar too high
Were we to finish 4th this year there will be the usual complaints if we only finish 10th the following season
I agree our glass ceiling was probably reached when we finished 7th. It does not mean that not better than 10th is a failure.
We compete with teams whose spending per season exceeds what we spend in a decade. Enjoy the ride it won’t last forever

Not much of a fan then unless of course you take in awsy matches. I think its unlikely we'll win the Champions League.Lord Beamish wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2020 10:35 amThe current upturn in form hasn’t convinced me to return to the Turf, just yet. I am pleased that we are now through this rocky patch and look like securing a fifth successive season in the Top Fight for the first time since the ‘60s, but I will remain an armchair supporter for the foreseeable future.

You’re welcome to your opinion of me.
I reckon I’m still as big a fan as I was, just not as much of a supporter as before.

I remember it well, 'Sean Who?......'mdd2 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2020 11:20 amI can understand that Beamish and I know Ashingtonclaret is in two minds about renewing his ST and you do not get a more fervent supporter of the lads than Ash.

If you're bored with football, would it not be best for all concerned to stay off a football message board?Lord Beamish wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2020 11:01 amI’m bored with Football in general. I have been for years. These developments at Man City my have a positive effect in this, but only if they are followed through on.
Re: Negative thread
I take it you've forgotten the wins against City and Liverpool at home and the draws away against those clubs. I know it doesn't fit you're argument, but don't try and change historyksrclaret wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2020 11:32 amI've certainly had enough of it all at certain points within the season.
