Park View
Can’t be bothered looking for the old thread, but there is a big team of builders knocking the **** out of the place. I for one am looking forward to it reopening.

Barnfield have done/been doing the new bus station here in Rawtenstall. Still not finished and preliminary work began on it in Jan. 2016. The old bus stands were cleared in December to make way for a car park which isn't even half way to completion. Just worked out I'm 67 closing in on 68!Funkydrummer wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2020 11:18 amJust pray that Barnfield aren't doing it - I'm 66 and probably won't be around to see it open if they are !

Barnfield still haven't finished the cosmetic work on the tarmac outside the corner stand in between the JM and Bob Lord stand which seems to have been going on for months.Silkyskills1 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2020 11:47 amBarnfield have done/been doing the new bus station here in Rawtenstall. Quite a lot of workmen when I drove past earlier today. Seems to have been a bit of work done on the outside too.

Re: Park View
These were posted on the pubs Facebook page last week. New cladding around the place, fresh colour scheme, ‘walls’ taken out, new carpet more than likely. Someone says they’re putting the men’s toilets where the kitchen was, but I’m not sure. Big screens and Sky TV going in I understand. Not doing food.

Two observations.
I’ve never judged a pub on the quality of its front door.
Secondly, why would Spurs fans laugh at a pub and why if they did would anyone care?

Re: Park View
Not doing food will see it closed in the not too distant future I suspect. No way can it survive on 19 league and a few cup matches per season. They need to get people through the door 7 days a week. That means a great food menu is required.

True, you also need to diversify with the menu, jackets & paninis ect, print the menu leaflets & leaflet drop at the workplaces to generate collection orders, expecting seasonal matchday traffic to sustain won't be enough.Longsidebogs wrote: ↑Sun Mar 01, 2020 8:53 pmNot doing food will see it closed in the not too distant future I suspect. Re: Park View
What’s with the big need for food in a pub these days? Most people don’t stop more than a couple of hours anyway, and I can’t really see that corner being somewhere people from the other side of Burnley will flock to because they do a burger? If you want a plate full of food and one beer (it’s hard to drink after a plate full of food) then you go Sycamore Farm, or the Waggoners. This is just a local pub. If they have good beer, a decent selection, sport on TV, and it’s clean and friendly, it won’t lose much not doing food.
On the flip side, if you make it an eating establishment with tables everywhere, staff running around focusing their time on diners, it leaves less space for a match day crowd and fans will go elsewhere. They’ve looked at their market and decided to focus on that I suspect?

At the end of the day somebody is shoving good money into trying to sort out what everyone on here has agreed has been a somewhat embarrassing eyesore for ages now and on those grounds I am definitely not going to knock it and I wish them every success. If they've got it wrong and it doesn't work out for them it will be a shame, but at least they've tried.

Re: Park View
Personally don’t see why it can’t work. Even if they only open on match days.
Problem before was it was run down and open every day and allowed people on match days to drink their own cans in the front.
Vintage claret and pubs under culvert seem to make a do. No reason this can’t if done right.

They’re hoping to put some form of fence up, and have a bit of a beer garden. I think they’ve to get planning permission yet.
A bit of a night out forming around there again now; Park View, little wander down to culvert with Turf, Vintage, Dyche, Miners etc. Here’s hoping.

I read they are intending to have regular live music evenings to help non match day income. Landlord is an experienced licensee and thinks that if he gets the beers right and some decent music then food isn't necessary.

Re: Park View
Juventus have quarantined their Under-23 squad after their match against US Pianese as the latter confirmed after the game that four of their members have caught the Covid-19 virus.
As a result, the Old Lady have decided to put their Under-23 squad in quarantine as a precautionary measure. Following their match against US Pianese, the club confirmed that four of their members – three players and a backroom staff – were diagnosed with the disease.
Juventus then issued a statement revealing their decision to quarantine the players (via AS).
“The preventive measure was decided upon indication, and pending further official communications, by the health authorities of Alessandria (Hygiene and Public Health Service - SISP), with which the Juventus health personnel are in constant contact.
“The reason is the new cases of COVID-19, which have emerged in the last few hours among the players of the US Pianese, which the Bianconeri faced on 23 February at the "Moccagatta" in Alessandria.

You’re right Steve, it does look better at the half way stage.
Regarding knowing how to live, I’ve just become more real down the years. The all night drinking laws have meant that Burnley town centre is dead before 12am, so at my age it’s a no-go. The Culvert used to be a night out in itself years ago, so I’m seeing an option for locals that haven’t been there for quite a while,

Landlord is the now ex landlord of the cross keys in barlick, which is the roughest pub in barlick and attracts the local sniff brigade. He is a bit of a knob and I wouldn’t expect food the keys never did so don’t get to excited.
Re: Park View
In the space of about 30 posts the Landlord has gone from being an experienced Lancashire licensee to a bit of a knob. Love it.
