Maybe this is why they have the worst home record in the PL.

Completely disrespectful and wonderful that we we 'put one over on them'.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2020 12:30 amoopss

I'm getting pretty tired generally of the assertion that Burnley are 'one dimensional' in their play....I think it's been over exaggerated by managers looking for lame excuses.....

Whilst you’re thumbing through the programme, have a quick look at Jacob’s (our mascot for the day) prediction for the score. He was interviewed before the game on the big screen too and predicted it.
If only I'd backed him financially on the way down, bless him. He got the six numbers wrong on Saturday night though........

Burnley put a little video up of the mascot greeting players outside the changing rooms, on their Twitter page.Cheshireclaret wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2020 8:27 amWhilst you’re thumbing through the programme, have a quick look at Jacob’s (our mascot for the day) prediction for the score. I did thanks, another memento of a truly memorable day for him. What a fantastic club we support and also a massive thanks to the Southampton staff who were fantastic with us both.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2020 9:02 amBurnley put a little video up of the mascot greeting players outside the changing rooms, on their Twitter page.

Excel
No wonder they’re struggling at home with such an air of arrogance.
As for we aren’t as organised at the back. This is funny because I actually said on Saturday watching the game how solid we look. How every player is in a dead straight line with one another from back to front.

Re: Southampton programme notes
I do like this line from Dyche
"I don't know why programmes do that. I love it. I almost want to find the fella who wrote it and say 'thanks, you are magic.'"

Re: Southampton programme notes
Same with opposition fans all jumping on the word 'horrible' to describe any aspect of us. They seem to think it's hurtful towards us; I think it's bloody brilliant. Keep it up everyone!turfytopper wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2020 8:13 amCompletely disrespectful and wonderful that we we 'put one over on them'.

Always love the oppo manager saying "We knew what Burnley were going to do" ...
after we beat them.
The comment always has an undertone of us being predictable, but they still can't combat it

Exactly. So either a) your team is too shite to pay attention to you or b) your team is too shite to outplay us despite knowing exactly what we were going to do

Re: Southampton programme notes
What is interesting now is how teams seem to be changing their starting eleven when they play us and even train differently in the build up to the game
Just shows how they are affected by the problems we cause.....but we cause different problems too.

Re: Southampton programme notes
Also interesting how often we don’t change the starting eleven based on who we play. Basically it is more important to be good at what you do rather than try to combat specifically what the opponent does....perhaps Southampton should note that. They may not have then ended up with the worst home record in the league....

Re: Southampton programme notes
Changing tactics, training differently - but these pre-match comments from a manager are ones I enjoy reading. One particular manager said: "“We know Burnley is a tough game. We have that experience. They are a defensive minded team. They have had good results away from home against the big teams this season, but we know they play direct football.turfytopper wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2020 2:56 pmWhat is interesting now is how teams seem to be changing their starting eleven when they play us and even train differently in the build up to the game

“It is all about being concentrated on second balls, but also in our ball possession we need to be more direct. It is important to pick a team that can play that type of football.”
That afternoon, we beat Ronald Koeman's Everton with a goal at the end of a 24 pass move.

Re: Southampton programme notes
As the years have rolled on by the attendance against Orient is pushing upwards of 100,000. In 30 years time I expect that Hendrick goal to be pushing upwards of 500 passes, there seems to more more added every time it’s mentioned.
As for teams changing tactics. The greatest was Pulis at West Brom in one of the 4-0. His team just let us have the ball . Thankfully we’ve improved with it nowadays.

Re: Southampton programme notes
You do get some absolute nuggets particularly in post match interviews. However, I do think we need to take into account the fact that english is not their mother tongue and most managers - but not all - are conversing in some strange mangled english manager speak patois. The word "moment(s) has crept into the vocabulary often being used out of context and even Sean Dyche has succumbed to this affection.

Re: Southampton programme notes
It's this word 'predictable' that gets used a lot and I find it odd. Fans call us 'horrible', managers say they know what we are going to do. It's all a bit mystifying isn't it. I've said it so many times but I'll keep saying it - if you don't like what we do find a way of beating it or shut the f*ck up. The excuses for not beating us are getting more ridiculous by the day almost, not least the grass length. Do these fools not fully understand how stupid they are making themselves look. All this ranks alongside that most ridiculous statement that still gets used by managers to this day ' we did enough to win' after a defeat or a draw, no you bloody obviously didn't. Some of the most ridiculous shite ever uttered is uttered by football managers and many fans.
I find it highly amusing.

Re: Southampton programme notes
Honestly couldnt care what people think of watching us.
Saturday wasnt for the purists. And it wasnt even great for us for large parts never mind neutrals. But who cares. We are in a results business and what the opposition think of us doesnt matter.
Ive no interest in how Chelsea or Newcastle or Brighton play.

i think some of the opposition managers overthink it when they are at home to Burnley-surely all they need to do to win is make sure the grass is cut really short and is well watered

I don't see the big deal.
We do attack down the left hand side,
while we leave the Rottweiler at home on our right hand side.
It's not rocket science.

Well, Gosling has obviously learnt nothing from Southamptons mistake last week. Really hope we give Bournemouth a stuffing.
